THE WORLD WAR TWO GROUP discussion
Introduction to the WW2 Site - Please Say Hi
We would love to have an article on him (and indeed others!) for future volumes of Glimpses of War - we are already close to publishing Volume 2. All in a great cause to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK.

Hello to all. I am excited to become a member of a club that focuses so well on an area of reading I greatly enjoy. I am sure I will gain a lot from the recommendations of fellow members as well as from the observations readers make about the books they are currently reading. I have a great many WW ii focused books awaiting my attention on my bookshelves and I look forward to talking about some of them even when they do not closely match the assigned theme of a given month

Hello to all in the group.I'm Colin from Tasmania. I'm mostly a fiction reader at the moment, but have not shied away from non-fiction. I did some research on WWI (admittedly scant when compared to what I see on Goodreads) and will keep my eye out for discussions and recommendations on broadening my knowledge of WWII.
What I have found = once you start, there is not enough hours in the week to get through everything. If I need to choose, I do lean toward the stories of personal battles vs. the battlegrounds, and that’s where reviews and comments about this genre will be helpful.

Welcome Colin, great to have you join us. Like you, I like the personal stories and accounts.
Welcome to the group Colin. You'll find there definitely aren't enough hours in the week. Or depth to your wallet. Looking forward to having you join in.
Hi,My name is Chrissie and I live in Massachusetts.
I joined goodreads way back in 2009, but didn't discover this WW II group until a few days ago.
So far I've only participated in the Goodreads Reading Challenge.
I was born in Munich, Germany, 10 years after the end of WW II. At high school the topic WW II was avoided until 1974 (at least), but thanks to my parents and grandparents I found out more about it.
My parents took me to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, Netherlands, when I was 13 years old, after I had read the diary of Anne Frank which started my interest in WW II.
In 1979 the TV mini series "Holocaust" was aired on German TV which intensified my interest and I've been reading lots of non-fiction books and (auto)biographies on WW II and on the post war years ever since. Another interest is the Cold War.
I've visited Dachau and Bergen-Belsen.
My step daughter teaches at Tulane University. When we visited her in New Orleans in November 2017, we spent one day at the National WW II Museum. It's quite impressive.
Thanks to goodreads.com I found several interesting books on WW II, also thanks to our huge public library which was open most of the time throughout this pandemic.
From 1990 until 2002 I worked for a German movie magazine in Hamburg (my favorite genre is film noir and of course WW II movies, especially the old ones).
In 2002 I immigrated to the US and now my husband and I are retired.
I hope to find more books on WW II through this group.
Thanks for reading all this,
Chrissie

I especially like fiction and memoir set in WW II England."I enjoyed "Coming Home" by Rosamunde Pilcher and "A Peculiar Chemistry" by Kitty Ray, both are novels on WW II in England.
