Welcome, Mike! I've found lots of informative discussion and good recommendations from this group. Glad to have you join.
Hi! My name is Jo Davidsmeyer. Been fascinated with WWII history since a child. I have just finished a book from my grandfather's WWII scrapbooks. He was a Signal Corps Colonel on General MacArthur's staff. I really want to share his story, so I have made the eBook FREE now through Saturday the 21st. Would really appreciate feedback.
MacArthur's WWII Seaborne Communications: CP Fleet reports, brochures, memos from the scrapbooks of a Signal Corps Commanding Officer
I hope you will enjoy going through WWII experiences.
Thank you so much.

Hi Geoff and let me offer you a warm welcome to the group. Westerplatte must have been a real interesting place to visit!

Sorry Ive not said Hi before....Better late then never! My name is Mark, I live in the UK & have always had a great interest in military history in particular the world wars. My Dad fought in WWII as an Air Gunner on Lancaster Bombers in the Royal Air Force. I well remember watching the series The World at War with him in the 1970's.
I generally read factual books and am always open to suggestions on good books! Cheers
Hi Mark, glad you joined up. Clear some space on your bookshelves if you ask for recommendations. We can overachieve on that mission!
Welcome to the group, Geoff and Mark! Mike's right, you'll soon have full shelves. And an empty wallet!

Welcome, Mark. The World At War is an awesome series. I have it on blueray but my player is not working just now. Prety sure it's being shown on daytime TV if you have the time ...
Hi Mark and welcome to the group. I also remember watching The World At War as a kid and now have the series on DVD so I can watching it again.

It only met once a week, so it was 2.5 hours long. The second half of class always featured an episode of The World at War.
Hi, group. New member here—I'm fascinated by how WW2 has influenced our modern geopolitics, and is still used to shape modern public opinion. So much so that I went around the world for four years pre Covid interviewing survivors from countries including Russia (pre war), Britain, the US, Japan, China and Germany. Their words are all compiled into a book which I just released in honour of the vets in the VE Day anniversary week, if anyone has interest (it's called Afterbursts).
Otherwise, one of my favourite works on the topic is The Fear and the Freedom, by Keith Lowe. Also loved One Day in a Very Long War and I'm a huge fan of Svetlana Alexievich's moving works on the individual experiences of conflict.
Welcome to the group, Lucy. Your book sounds very interesting and I'm sure many in this group will look into it!
