Hi everyone.Lawyer in his late 30s here.

Good to hear from you all. It’s been a while since I posted/contributed.
Has anyone taken a look at my one and only book about WW2?
‘RELUCTANT HERO’ - is a true story about my dad, Bill, who survived as a Lancaster bomber pilot - when so many perished.
I’d be interested in any comments, good or bad...

Still on my two year project of finding info on a family relative that was in WWII. After hours combing through Navy Roll calls I finally found some info. I knew he served on subs throughout the war and narrowed my search to ships in the '43-'44. Any of these ring a bell ?Besugo

Fluckey, along with Dick O'Kane and Mush Morton, was among the most celebrated U.S. sub skippers. He dropped a landing party in Japan to blow up a train. The episode was recreated in the WW II movie Destination Tokyo starring Cary Grant and John Garfield.

I met Admiral Fluckey many years ago. He was a great guy, great sense of humor. When I asked him about blowing up the train and why, he said "because the Japs did not have enough decency run rail across the water, which I thought was very inconsiderate of them."
Sven Hassel? oh that is great, a guilty pleasure indeed. Welcome !R.J. wrote: "Greetings from Scotland, my name's Mac,

Welcome to the group David, great to have you join us.
Hi. I have just joined the group. My parents endured the Blitz in London, and my late father loved to reminisce about his wartime experiences, particularly as he grew older. I am thinking of writing a novel based on his stories.
However, my main interest is the Holocaust. I live in Israel - although I do have an Australian daughter-in-law - so I hope I can be considered party of the family. I would like to tell the group (or Holocaust sub-group) about my recently published novel "Of Bitter Herbs and Sweet Confections" based on my late mother-in-law's wartime experiences.
Is that OK?
Hi Susan, welcome to the group. You can post full details of your novel in our author's page and in the novels thread:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

You may like my book "Occupation and Insurgency" which deals with war crimes/holocaust issues. Plenty of interview material as well. Go to my website at www.heatonlewisbooks.com and go to the page titled "The Buchenwald Story."

No one here is going to take it, but your TBR will grow at an exponential rate.
Welcome to the group, Susan! As noted - unless you have access to a good library, your check book will take a beating :)

Susan, you may want to look into a good credit card with a rewards program! Welcome aboard!
Aloha All,Mahalo Rick for the warm and informative greeting message! My love of history comes from my daddy. Not being stuck up, I have a bachelor's degree in history. I also have an online internship with one of the history news website.
I am trying to get these books for March from the library first. I do look forward to this group!

Hello. Delighted to join the group. I'm a huge history buff, especially 20th century U.S. and European history (Cold War, World War II, and World War I). Looking forward to seeing what people are reading and talking about.
Hi, everyone, I've been following this group with great interest and decided it's time to introduce myself. I was 13 when the bulletin broke on the radio: "The Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbor." From '43 to '46 I was a U.S.O. hostess in Fresno, CA, which had 3 army bases. I've lived a long time, but nothing has ever come close to the aura of danger and excitement, the fears, joys, tribulations, and sorrows that hung over us on the home front during those wartime years. Ordinarily I write romance novels, but at age 91, I decided it's high time to put my still vivid memories in a book. It's almost finished.
