Jill wrote: "Am I the only woman in the group?"Hi Jill,
I'm a bit of a newbie myself, so haven't felt right being part of the welcome committee, but you're definitely not the only female - plenty of others in the discussions. :)
Great........not that many women seem to be interested in military history or at least none of my friends. They make fun of me while they read bodice rippers and the Twilight series!!!!
Hi Jill, and welcome from another female in the group. Funny how there seems to be a misconception that women can't be interested in military history. I've written a few novels set during WWII and I get that a lot at book signings--usually just a look, but sometimes an actual question: "Why is a woman writing about war?"
Geevee wrote: "LOL no Jill our membership is quite mixed with a number of active female members.".. and AR does have his sensitive side.
Yeah he is really sensitive about his Wine. We found that out last year. carl wrote: "Geevee wrote: "LOL no Jill our membership is quite mixed with a number of active female members."

Yeah like Single Malt Whiskey, not sour grapes in a bottle. LOL'Aussie Rick' wrote: "There are just some things that are sacrosanct in life :)"
I've changed the lock Geevee and installed a security system to cover my libray. You guys will never get in again to taste the sweet nectar of my fine Australian red wines or to browse through my book collection :)
All is good then. I can still get into the Library any time I want. I am from Tech Support. LOL.'Aussie Rick' wrote: "I've changed the lock Geevee and installed a security system to cover my libray. LOL, like that will work. I told you already, I is tech support. 'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Looks like I will have to change addresses yet again!

I'll just pop round to see the new puppy and then sneak into the wine cellar! Better have some white as well! :-)
Jill wrote: "Am I the only woman in the group?"No way! I am very much woman, and I am very much in this group. And there are other women.

There's me too :)
Although I'm not on here as much as my other groups solely because I participate in their challenges.
Jill wrote: "Great........not that many women seem to be interested in military history or at least none of my friends. They make fun of me while they read bodice rippers and the Twilight series!!!!"Don't hate me! But I did read the twilight books only because I was on vacation and they were the only ones available :( but this is one young(ish) girl you won't see reading bodice rippers! I get chastised ALL the time too for reading about WWI & WWII. Or, as one gentleman said "you're too pretty to fill your head with such ugliness" I wasnt completely unhappy with the compliment though.
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Maybe I need to organise some challenges to keep you here Allie :)"Lol! Don't worry, I'm never far. Always peeking in and adding to the tbr :)
Jill wrote: "Allie.........your love of the WWI/WWII books makes up for reading Twilight!!!!!! :0)"Oh good :) We can be friends now lol
In case anyone's wondering what I thought of them, they only got one star. And that's more than I wanted to give!
Allie wrote: "... they read bodice rippers and the Twilight series!!!..."One of my students went for a scholarship interview and when asked whether she reads and what she reads, she said "Twilight". I asked her if she managed to put a literary spin to it which she did not, because she's an engineering student.
She did! She was strong in a few areas. I just do not know how her reading repertoire was evaluated.
What????....No...I just does Tech Support. LOL.'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Dj's not working for the NSA is he?

OK - what is Twilight?? I'm lost. Is it a bodice ripper with the required titillating cover??Also I have noticed over the last few years more and more "war" books written by women. Laura Hillenbrand comes to mind. The only "older era" female "war" author from the 1960's I can think of is Hannah Arendt. Are there more?
Geevee wrote: "Jill you can see we are rich in women members as well being a really international group too :)"It is a great group of real WWII buffs.....nice to find it.
Mikey B......"Twilight" is a series of books about vampires which has been amazingly popular. I was just teasing Allie about reading them.
And then the same horrific books were each turned into horrific movies. Where have you been man? :D j/k
I don't mind Zombies but I think that's a bit off topic although I did see a movie about Nazi Zombies coming to life in Norway after WW2, does that count?
Lol, Aussie Rick. We did get a bit off topic. Was just amazed someone had never heard of them before. It was practically shoved down our throats!
