Welcome to the group Mike.
Mike wrote: "My name is Mike and I live in NYC...And a Yankees fan?""...Oh yes, Since the 1960's."I’m a life-long Red Sox fan and years ago during my first Yankees/Red Sox game in the late 60’s I got 3 Yankee autographs; Fritz Peterson, Jim Bouton and Dooley Womack, as they boarded the bus to head out of town. I lived for a year on 65th & Madison Ave in NYC and I will admit the Yankees are my #2 team. Now residing in the south I often took my young sons to the Greensboro Bats single A Yankee games only a few miles away and as luck would have it the oldest is a true Yankee fan (Bernie Williams favorite) and roots against me! Oh well back to war conversation…

Fritz Peterson was involved in the infamous wife-swapping scandal on the Yankees.

You'll miss me. I'm there second Monday.
But the Hamburgers show up on the Second Tuesday, just ask Wimpy.Manray9 wrote: "Dj wrote: "No worries I will be there on the second Tuesday next week.

'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Jeez guys, you know how long it took me to restock my cellar after your last visit!"I don't drink wine, so you don't have to worry about that anyway.
Play with? That has such an ugly connotation. I just reorganized them after finding them spread all over the house. 'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Didn't you play with my books in the library last time you visited Dj?"
Jrrocks1 wrote: "Hey I am new and I am a New Yorker....... Mother Nature do you hate us...... I love military history, chocolate, reading and dogs. I also pay attention to current events and i am in school."Hi, Jrrocks1,
I love European 20th century history, chocolate, reading and cats. :-)
Welcome to the group.
You guys, don't you get Jrrocks1 in trouble with wine. He is still in school. He may be a minor. Hey, Jrrocks1, don't listen to these guys. They might be a bad influence on you. Better stick with Happy. He is a teetotaler.
:-)
I'm the permanent Designated Driver:) someone has to get all you home to your hotels in one piece :)

Hi everyone - I'm Mike and am an Englishman living in New York. I am especially interested in the air war in Europe and in memoirs and diaries from the period - from both sides.

Welcome Mike there are a few threads that have an aviation theme or connection so feel free to join in.
happy wrote: "I'm the permanent Designated Driver:) someone has to get all you home to your hotels in one piece :)"I might join you, Happy. I am mainly fantasizing. I rarely have a glass of wine. I am old enough and wise enough to know that wine doesn't agree with me. I do better with hard liquor, but I don't care much for hard liquor. So I am a teetotaler most of the time.
P.S. I forgot to tell about beer. I like a glass of beer with certain foods, that is, pork roast with dumplings or radishes with rye bread and butter. Yet since I am, meanwhile, almost vegetarian, you can forget about the pork roast. My husband is a total teetotaler (except for New Years Eve when I force half a glass of champagne on him at midnight). He is almost vegan. In other words: He is much holier than I am. :-)
Jrrocks1 wrote: "Well then I am happy to join"Join whom, Jrrocks? The drinkers or the teetotalers?
Be careful. I'll be watching over you. :-)
Mike wrote: "Hi everyone - I'm Mike and am an Englishman living in New York. I am especially interested in the air war in Europe and in memoirs and diaries from the period - from both sides."Hi, Mike. Welcome to the group. I'm afraid we'll soon have to number all the Mikes.
Hey Rick! How many Mikes do we have by now?
Mike wrote: "Hi everyone - I'm Mike and am an Englishman living in New York. I am especially interested in the air war in Europe and in memoirs and diaries from the period - from both sides."If you like memoirs, I would like to recommend the following book to you:
My Name Was Five: A Novel of the Second World War
The author, Heinz Kohler, is also a member of our group.
You might want to read my review of this book. Here is the link:

I also will have a memoir come out soon. It still needs a book cover and photo-collages.
Lilo wrote: "P.S. I forgot to tell about beer. I like a glass of beer with certain foods, that is, pork roast with dumplings or radishes with rye bread and butter. A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.
@ Manray9: It is actually quite simple: I always loved wine but never took it too well. While I never drank hard liquor on a regular basis, I have on rare occasions consumed quite a big quantity without getting drunk and without suffering any hangover. But this was quite a few years ago.
Roast pork and dumplings have been my favorite dish from childhood on. But since my husband and I are animal lovers, we have always struggled with eating brutally murdered, innocent animals -- especially pigs, which are such close relatives to humans. I have discontinued buying (cruelly raised) factory-farmed meat. I, meanwhile, eat much less meat and buy only humanely raised, grass-fed beef and wild-caught fish, which I eat with bad conscience while my dear, sweet husband (who is so much holier than I am) tries to spoil my appetite.
I would like to quote Wilhelm Busch, who said: "Sie haben alles hinter sich und sind gottlob recht tugendlich." ("They have everything behind them and are -- thank God -- quite virtuous.") :-)
Pig's are innocent? You know they love Bacon. LOL.Lilo wrote: "@ Manray9:

I have known a number of humans who were very close relatives to swine :).
