Heidi Yay!

Ezra (ezralc) | 3 comments So, I haven't read the entire book yet, just the 'look inside' on Amazon. I liked it so far, although I was surprised to see it was done in present tense. Maybe it's because I'm so unused to seeing it, but it actually distracted me from the story a bit. I'd probably get used to it eventually, but did anyone else feel like that?

It didn't bother me but I know several people who mentioned they did not like that format.

Yeah, I mean, I'm guessing I'd probably stop noticing it as soon as I read a chapter or two. I would find it super annoying to write that way. I just don't really know why one would choose that tense haha.

message 1355: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka I read somwhere, in a review, I think, that the present tense is actually perfect for THG since everything in the books is intense, immediate, and constantly in progress. Like in the third book when Katniss says (view spoiler). I rather agreee on that point. Life is an everyday fight where you're constantly moving on. It doesn't really matter what happened before, or what might happen in the future, it's what we do, here and now, that has consequences. What's done is done, what will happen is uncertain. Only what you decide in the present will move things forward and I think that reflects well in THG.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Why aren't they showing more Peeta?

Am I the only one alarmed by the shocking lack of Peeta?

Well it was only 1 minute!

message 1363: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Besides which, they can't give it all away in the preview for those who haven't read the books.

No, Cassi. I'm with you! I want more Peeta!!

message 1365: by Julie (new)

Julie Am I the only one who gets goosebumps while watching the trailers? Haha

message 1366: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) No! I watched it at home last night and my friend and I squeeed and got goosebumps and wailed because she may not be able to get the day off so we can see the midnight showing.

I'm actually a little upset over the lack of chills and goosebumps I'm experiencing. I do get really giddy though.

Heidi I am totally goose bumpy!

Giddy is good too!

message 1370: by Theo (new)

Theo (turrsaturrsa) I definitely get goosebumps. I also have exceeded the amount of times I should have watched this new 1 minute clip...which is about 15 times haha.

message 1371: by Jim (new)

Jim Franz | 36 comments Two moments:

When she screams, "I volunteer."

When she raises three fingers into the air, as seen by the newsfeeds.

I'd watch the movie just for those moments alone.

message 1372: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yes! Those are the two moments that gives me chills every time I watch the trailer.

message 1373: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Is it sad that I keep checking to see if they plucked poor Prim's eyebrows??

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi wrote: "Is it sad that I keep checking to see if they plucked poor Prim's eyebrows??"

Nope. Totally understandable.

Stopped by hot topic this weekend and picked up a HG tshirt!! I can't wait to wear it to the movie like a big dork. Although, i'd prefer a shirt that said 'team Peeta' or 'district tribute', but I'll take the flaming mockingjay pin :)

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to stop by Hot Topic while I'm out tomorrow and pick one up, too!

I checked the Hot Topic website and they will have a bunch more shirts, jewelry, throws, etc after the 22nd. There will be Peeta and Gale shirts and a bunch of others. Some nice looking stuff!

Bethany | 578 comments I like the backpack. Too bad I'm not in school :(

message 1382: by Julie (new)

Julie I've been wanting one of the mockingjay pendant necklaces, I think I might have to give in and order one, and the district 12 charm keychain....and the district 12 tank top...and maybe the tshirt too. I might go a little overboard. Maybe not the shirts but I really like them, I just feel a little old to walk around wearing stuff like that and a little silly buying it just for lounging around the house.

Becca | 1608 comments Music video of Taylor Swift's song is up. And it's just as haunting as the song is.

message 1384: by Jim (new)

Jim Franz | 36 comments Thanks for the link, Becca! It is a nice video.

That said, am I the only one who was hoping to see new clips from the movie inside the video, especially ones that linked the words to the story? :)

message 1385: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I was hoping for clips too Jim :(

message 1386: by Diana (last edited Feb 21, 2012 11:04AM) (new)

Diana That's exactly what I was hoping for, a little more of a connection to the story.

I've had such weird moods with this video, I first saw it and thought: it's so good I love the song even more! then later: meah, it's not that great.
Then back to: oh no it is good.

It's been so long since I've anticipated a movie this much I'm pretty much losing it.

message 1387: by Caryn (new)

Caryn (carynreads) I liked how they used the mockingjay pin in the video!

message 1388: by Sandee is Reading (new)

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) I don't really like dystopian books but after reading HUNGER GAMES, I wanted more. :D
I've read other dystopian books but none has compared to HG yet.

HUNGER GAMES is in a class by itself, but I have read some other really outstanding dystopians since them. A couple that come to mind right away are Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano and Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu .

message 1391: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, I'm surprised nobody else has said it... Chaos Walking!

message 1392: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oh yes! Chaos Walking has my heart as well (I actually love it a little more -- don't tell anyone). Other than that I have not read anything that has blown me away.

I'm totally reverse. I actually don't even know if there is a connection to the Hunger Games, if there is it probably goes with nothing comparing to it.

message 1394: by Diana (new)

Diana Caryn wrote: "I liked how they used the mockingjay pin in the video!"

I liked that too, especially since it's something only someone who has read the books would get what it was.

message 1397: by Heidi (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I now have an image of you in a hand painted t-shirt with Josh's face on it.

AHHHHHHHH. I so want to fangirl with you. I have a bit of a Josh Hutcherson crush even though he's a bit too young. But he's a Kentuckian and likes camping! And he looks so cute with the grey sweater and tie.
