The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins

I never picked, but I'm listening to the book again and I think I might be going towards Gale.
But it might change if I re-read the rest, I am pretty fickle.
Heidi wrote: "Boo! Peeta is the man."
Amen, sista!
Amen, sista!

Thought this was amusing."
Girl to President Snow: "Here's your Rosebud. Take it and leave."
(For those of you who don't get the joke, it's a Citizen Kane reference)

I love her dress! She's so beautiful.
I'm so excited!!!! It's almost here!!!!!!!!"
Pretty!
I love that she doesn't always look her age, sometimes she looks older and sometimes she looks younger.

Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!! TELL US...everything! What did you think?!?!
Yeah, super jealous of you right now.

Jennifer is an emotionnal bomb and her deep, broken voice adds so much when she's breaking down (Willow as well, her screams are like a knife in your guts, honestly).
I was bothered by some scenes and quotes that weren't in the movie but it doesn't hurt the main purpose of the movie. I also didn't like the mutts at the end, they weren't what I pictured but it's a detail too.
What really impressed me was the Capitol stuff. The movie is divided in two points of view : the districts/arena and the Capitol/Gamemakers/Snow. It is very well done. The contrast between the extravagance of the Capitol and the misery of the districts is shocking. On one side, there are so much colors, food, luxury and on the other, the districts are in grey colors, and you get images like an old man gnawing at bones with dirty hands, wooden houses crumbling down. Effie is perfect ("MANNERS !"), and her relationship with Haymitch is so funny. Haymitch himself is good, I was no fan of his blonde wig but the version created by Woody is great, though he looks softer than in the book. (view spoiler)
The control room is just... WOW. You see these people manipulating poor kids in a cage like animals. They shoot Katniss with fireballs and mutts with smiles on their faces and Seneca is the boss, he has much more time on screen than I thought he would have (as well as conversations with Snow) and his last scene is great, it was a subtle add to the story giving us a clue of how serious is the berries thing.
The ending was a bit rushed though, not at all like in the book and there was one element in particular that bothered me (view spoiler)
And also (view spoiler)
Overall, the movie is not explicit on the violence. I didn't think there was that much blood and the camera-on-the-shoulder-style makes it difficult to distinguish anything when the characters fight. It's very fast and blurry.
Oh and the scene when Katniss blow up the careers' food was very good too. The effects are very good and there's this little scene when (view spoiler) I loved Katniss's look of fright at that moment because sometimes I thought she looked too strong. The scenes where she shoves Peeta is... more brutal than in the book and I thought that it really made him look like a wimp xD
The fight scenes I really loved the best were the Katniss/Clove scene and the Cato/Peeta/Katniss fight on the Cornucopia. Josh wasn't lying when he said that Alexander really strangled him, lol ! And Tresh was really scary when he yelled at Clove with his gruffy voice. Her death scene is (view spoiler) . And Clove yelling Cato's name was just how I pictured it. One moment she's running the show, ready to kill Katniss and then she's just peeing her pants.
I have to admit however, that I didn't really like Rue's death sequence. It lasts for about 5 minutes full I think, and sometimes I found it too dramatic, like it seemed a bit fake to me... I don't know, I'm divided on this one, didn't really like the choregraphy. However there is scene that follows just after (view spoiler)
So that's it. If you have more specific questions, go ahead !

I still remember the weekend 2 years ago when I was first told to read the book.

I really enjoyed it even without a re-read. It made me remember what I felt when I was reading certain scenes... (view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I read them. :P Can't wait to see it!

Woody Harrelson was amazing, by the way:-)
I don't get to see it until the 1st but will be going to see it with my family and my friends and their families and then do dinner after. There will probably be about 20 of us going. We did something similar for Alice in Wonderland and it was a lot of fun. Just waiting for tickets to go on sale for that day so we can buy them.
I love reading about everyone's experience going to see it so keep posting!

That sounds fun! I wish I lived close enough to 20 of my friends to go with! Jealous!
