Peep you are such a bad influence - no wonder you are team Gale!

Heidi Chachic wrote: "Heidi wrote: "No Twilight talk here girls. We are talking about a book that is well written (oh - that will get Shannen going!)"

I laughed out loud at this comment!"

Chachic - don't tell Shannen this, but I am not a fan of the Twilight saga. I think there are books out there that have much better writing that deserve the praise (and money) it has received. Shhhhh - I don't think she knows.

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

I HEARD THAT, HEIDI! :) That's OK. As long as we don't start a "Worst YA Books" thread here like on the other YA group I'm in. That thread drives me nuts but I can't keep myself from looking at it. I like to hear why people like books, not essays about why a book sucked (and I'm not just talking about Twilight).

Anyway...I got to a part in The Hunger Games last night that made me cry. I'm not posting spoilers here though. The book has been shocking as I can't believe the kind of world they live in. So far, I love Katniss. And really, Peeta hasn't been in it too much but whatever his plans are in the game, I believe he is always thinking of Katniss.

message 54: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I know what part you're talking about! And it was very sad for me, too.

Oh, why thank you! That is so sweet :)

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments So, getting away from the whole Gale/Peeta debate, although I love it and I already posted my preference. Are there any other more minor characters you love just for the sake of loving them (not romantically)?

Most of my answers have to do with the way they are portraited in Catching Fire but I absolutely LOVE Cinna and would like to see more of him! He has to be one of my favorites. Don't worry, no spoilers, but I just can't help loving him. Other favs are Haymitch, Finnick, and "Nuts and Bolts"

Who do you love?

message 57: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany - I too love Cinna. Don't want to give spoilers - but his part in Catching Fire made me love him. Nuts and Bolts - I forgot about them, what a pair!

Gokce G | 52 comments Team Peeta! :)
Had to say it.

message 59: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Gocke - never apologize for loving Peeta!

message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay, Gokce!

Yay guys! :)

message 62: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I need to tally up this Team Peeta crew so I can know who to dislike *frown!*

Team Gale coming through like a tornado.

LOL. That was so dumb!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Wait, does this mean Shannen has made a decision?

message 64: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Nope, it means that she is a turncoat traitor!

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't know enough about Gale at this point so Go Team Peeta!

message 67: by Gokce G (new)

Gokce G | 52 comments I like Gale, I really do but Peeta needs to get the girl, c'mon!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments That saddens me Shannen. You can have the Boy with the Bread, I'll stick with Gale and Cinna.

message 69: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments What kind of storm will occure if in the third book she introduces a whole new hottie that is both a hunter and a gatherer? Talk about love square!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Gokce, I really like Peeta too, and I agree, he needs to get a girl. I have no hatred for him, but Katniss and Gale are... well, Katniss and Gale. You just can't compete with that.

message 71: by Gokce G (new)

Gokce G | 52 comments Funny, when I first started the books I rooted for Gale and was disappointed when this-Peeta-guy was elected to enter the arena. But what can I say? That boy's got a charm that won me over :)

message 72: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen - don't listen to those Peeta haters. True love will win out in the end. Team Peeta all the way. Suck it haters! (sorry I think I just turned into my 13 year old neice for a minute).

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Okay, I had a thought. I think it basically comes down to whether or not you're Team Edward or Team Jacob (I know, I know... not another Twilight reference, but I have noticed this pattern). Although not always the case. I think (in my own very humble opinion) that Team Edward folks will lean more strongly toward Peeta and Team Jacob folks will lean more strongly towards Gale. And before everyone jumps down my throat I do NOT think they are the same characters... far from it. But it has to deal with the way they relate respectively to the female leads. Peeta is VERY self sacrificing and only wants what is best for Katniss (even if that isn't what's best for him) while Gale is willing to fight for what he wants, and tends to not shelter Katniss as much as Peeta would.

I would love to expound a bit more, but it's difficult without giving away some spoilers so I'll leave it at that. Anyway, it's just my 2 cents.

hahahaha Heidi, thank you for my morning giggle!! I used to watch wrestling back in the day when that phrase was very very popular!! You just made me spit coffee on my laptop!! Hahahaha

message 75: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany, Brittany, Brittany. Did I not state earlier that we are not to bring up Twilight on this thread! You and Shannen can go off onto the Twlight thread and expound on the greatness of Edward and Jacob there (gag). I would like to note that I have used ALL my restraint NOT to post on the Twlight thread, and it has been killing me. p.s. I am totally just teasing you :)

message 76: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Susan I hope your laptop is still functioning :) Bluemooon - so glad you are liking it. Rue is very sweet.

message 77: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) @Brittany - Now see, I'm team Gale, and if I had to pick a Twilight team it would be Team Edward. Me thinks that Peeta and Jacob are equally pathetic.

message 78: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Peep wrote: "@Brittany - Now see, I'm team Gale, and if I had to pick a Twilight team it would be Team Edward. Me thinks that Peeta and Jacob are equally pathetic."

Me too! I'm Team Gale and if I had to choose, I'd be Team Edward too. I didn't like the love triangle in Twilight.

message 79: by Susan (new)

Susan Ummm I know we aren't supposed to speak the dreaded "T" word here but I'm team Peeta and Team Edward-LOL!!! Sparkling Men--yes yes yes!!!!!

I hate any love triangle in any book. It's always sad because there's one guy that would lose and it always seems like the guy who's most in love with the girl - hence, Peeta and Jacob.

Chachic Peep wrote: "I hate any love triangle in any book. It's always sad because there's one guy that would lose and it always seems like the guy who's most in love with the girl - hence, Peeta and Jacob. "

I hate love triangles in books too. For some reason, I don't think they get the happily ever after part if there is someone hurt by the relationship.

message 82: by Susan (new)

Susan I cant wait to see how this triangle ends........oh hurry up August!!!

message 83: by Traci (new)

Traci So my little sister is 15 and haaates reading (we don't get along too well :p) but she needed to read a fiction book of at least 230 pages and do some projects on it for class.. which of course she waited to do until the week it was due. So she came over to my apartment on Tuesday to get a book and I handed her The Hunger Games. She freaked out because it's almost 400 pages and said she'd never be able to finish... I told her she'd never be able to put it down.

I got a text message annnd a facebook message from her last night saying "GET ME THE SECOND BOOK ASAP!" Maybe The Hunger Games will get her to want to read more often :D

message 84: by Susan (new)

Susan hahaha Traci that's great!! I hope my girls have the love of reading like I do! I take them to the library every week and I'm never going to stop!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I thought I would get some reactions from that post. I shall refrain from bringing up the dreaded "T" series again.

Perhaps I was wrong... it was just a theory. I don't care which "T" team you're on Gale is still where it's at. (Sorry Heidi) ;)

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished! OMG! Instead of being able to move on to a book on my TBR list, I'm going to have to read Catching Fire! I loved this book. I'm still totally Team Peeta. We'll see what happens with the next book.

P.S. Twilight, Twilight, Twilight. Take that, Heidi! And for the record, Peep, the guy who loved Bella the most is Edward. Period. :)

message 87: by Susan (new)

Susan AMEN Shannen-LOL!!!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just remember, we ALL have to wait until August for Mockingjay. Hope you enjoy Catching Fire!

Remember to think Cinna, Cinna, Cinna. He is apparently the only character on which Heidi and I are able to agree.

message 89: by Heidi (last edited Mar 20, 2010 06:03PM) (new)

Heidi Yeah Shannen - glad you liked it and I am especially glad you are Team Petta. Yes Brittany - we do agree on Cinna - I always think of someone from Project Runway when I think of him. Shannen will also like him after book 2 because he is in that one more. Traci - glad you turned your sister onto a great book and she actually read it. I know how that is - my 13 year old neice is a reulctant reader despite the best efforts by her mother and myself. I'll give her my copy of Hunger Games at Easter and see if it works!

message 90: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I bought my t-shirt today so as soon as I settle on a plain design I will paint it then post pics.

I can't believe all of you Peeta lovers. Your name has been entered into the games, now you can be with Peeta as much as you want.

Bluemoon - glad to see you liked them!

Not sure how to pronounce her name, exactly! But the movie is called "Hanna." I read a lot of scripts for work and I heard she was attached to star.

Oops, I just realized that Saoirse Ronan is NOT who I imagined to play Katniss - I thought Saoirse would be perfect as Clary from Immortal Instruments (with her red hair)! Got my characters confused. Katniss is supposed to be olive skinned with dark hair, right?

message 93: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I think someone like a younger Natalie Portman would be great for Katniss. By the way, since everyone seems to be disreguarding my wish not to bring up the dreaded Twilight series on this thread, can we all at least agree that Katniss is a WAY better protagonist than Bella Swan?

YES!

message 96: by Heidi (new)

Heidi OK. I am not sure how to post the picture of my t-shirt, so I just changed it to my profile picture. Also, I only had one "T" - so no Team Peeta -- just Peeta. p.s. I tried to get a pic of me wearing it, but it was quite difficult to do by myself (my hubby is at work), so I gave up!

message 97: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi wrote: "can we all at least agree that Katniss is a WAY better protagonist than Bella Swan?"

Definitely! I love strong female protagonists.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I'm on board too, Katniss is a much better protagonist!

message 99: by Traci (new)

Traci I don't even think that's a question :p I literally laugh out loud when I see thirteen year old girls wearing "Team Bella" shirts. ..really? you want to be like Bella? *shakes head*

I think they just want to have two hot guys fighting over them. LOL!
