Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Melanie, a lot of us agree with you about the last Harris.

I'm reading Chains of Ice (The Chosen Ones, #3) by Christina Dodd and not enjoying it as much as the first two in the series, though I have not stopped to analyze why.

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments Just finished Fearless by Diana Palmer : Loved it, but IMO Rodrigo didn't redeem himself enough (too little, too late) for the truly assholish way he treated Glory.. I still enjoyed him as a hero, and I loved Glory, but he was just too cruel with her over and over again, with no reason.. I was totally hooked on the story, but just because of Rodrigo's treatment of Glory, 4.5 stars instead of 5.. He should have groveled !!

Mollie - I'm just so disappointed! This was unromantic fluff to me.. I liked it because I love Eric and Sookie and like to read more, but this should have been a novella in an anthology..

To me it was more like an episode in a soap opera... new characters end up dead, and there's no real sense of resolution. I've written this series off.
Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris

Currently reading... NOTHING. I'm a bit burned out, and will take a day or so off.

Nuts. I have this book on my nightstand - now I'm wondering whether I should even bother. I've been soldiering on through them all just to find out what FINALLY happens between Sookie and Bill (I know, I know - I watched the show before reading the books so I have a certain affection for Bill).

Suspending my disbelief, deliberately not thinking too hard about ALL the characters she has introduced and the increasingly far-out things that have happened to Sookie and crew - lots of "you've GOT to be kidding" and "how convenient is THAT" moments for me.

If you already have it, I say go ahead and read it. Just don't get your hopes up too high and you won't be disappointed. Far-out things are supposed to happen in this kind of story, and the further, the better, in my opinion.

I contrast this to the Psy/Changelings, the Black Dagger Brotherhood, or the Dark-Hunters, where an alternate reality is constructed, and then not much you wouldn't expect happens in it. Another difference is that those are basically romance based, while Harris' work is based on mysteries.

That's what I didn't know when I started reading them. I watched the first season of True Blood before picking up the books, and while I really enjoyed the first 2 or 3 books, the further along I got the less I liked them. I think I was expecting (hoping) that they would be paranormal romance when really they are more of a UF-type series.

I will give Harris this, though - she sure has imagination. Vamps, were-everythings, fairies, you name it, she's thrown it all in.

Good point about the BDB/Dark Hunter comparisons. Thanks!

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 381 comments As all long-lived series seem to do, this one has gone up and down. I'm reading Dead in the Familynow and am about halfway thru it. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. I find that I am now interpreting Sookie, Eric, Alcide, etc. thru their characters on True Blood, which is kind of a shocker. Like I think, "Eric wouldn't talk like that!!!". Especially when actors were first selected and I thought, "Oh, no, that can't be Bill!"!!!

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments Just finished Once and Always by Judith McNaught : Loved the book, but hated that Jason didn't apologize for their wedding night! The ending was great though.. A real heart-clencher!

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Still making my way through Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood . Pretty awesome so far!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I loved the quote "Lady Madelyne had sealed her own fate. She'd warmed his feet."

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Great quote, UM/Dhestiny!

I started Eternal Hunter (Night Watch, #1) by Cynthia Eden and paused to blow through Burning Lamp (Arcane Society, #8) by Amanda Quick for the third time... I really love both.

I know! I am adoring this book!! A lot of people said this one wasn't on their top list of her books but it is way way up there for me! I just got passed the part where she was having "The Fever" and she thought he was Odysseus! Amazing! <3

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I totally agree! This is one of my favorites!

message 965: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Well, for anyone who likes Suzanne Forster, I'm here to tell you that Shameless by Suzanne Forster is NOT one of the best I've read. Kind of a mess.

On a brighter note, I read Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost and really enjoyed it!

Right now reading Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean - AWESOME book.

Tammy, I didn't like that one either.

I'm reading Altered Carbon (Takeshi Kovacs, #1) by Richard K. Morgan .

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments I finished Eternal Hunter and Lover Avenged. Currently Reading Good Eats, the Early Years, (yes, cookbooks count).

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Finished Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood . *sigh* I wish she had written books for the brothers but oh well. :(

Onward to Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (Highland Pleasures, #2) by Jennifer Ashley ! What did everyone think of this one?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Courtney, I LOVED Lady Isabella. The storyline isn't quite as compelling as The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, in my opinion, but it's still a fabulous book. I adored Mac and Isabella, and we got to see Ian quite a bit which really made the book for me.

message 970: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Huzzah! I was super worried because everyone was saying it was kind of so-so and didn't have the "get up and go" that Lord Ian did but...come on...let's be honest...the only one I'm expecting to blow Ian out of the water is Hart! <3 *Sigh*...2012...I will wait for him!!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I know, I totally can't believe we have to wait 2 years! So, not fair!

Ian is so adorable in Lady Isabella. Is that a bad sign that he was my favorite character in the book? LOL

There's a sub story that takes place that was just rather 'meh' to me, but it helped propel the reconciliation of Mac and Isabella, so I just went with it and didn't find it annoying or anything like that.

message 972: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Alrighty! Thanks for the warning. I would have just skipped instead of enjoyed the subplot. ;)

message 973: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Hmm. I just picked up Patience at the library and started reading it last night. Is it just me, or did an *ahem* erotic BDSM-type story sneak into a historical romance???

Have any of you read this one?

message 974: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish (last edited Jul 14, 2010 05:36PM) (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Tammy, that's exactly what happened. LOL Did you read Passion? That was also erotic, but such an excellent storyline!

I haven't read Passion, but I think I should have before trying Patience (that sounds like a punch line, lol). I'm not sure what to think of it, actually. I like erotica as much as the next girl, but somehow in the context of a historical romance I'm finding it a little jarring. What did you think of it?

message 976: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Oh. My. God!! I LOOVED Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (Highland Pleasures, #2) by Jennifer Ashley !!!!!!! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

Working on The Clayborne Brides One Pink Rose, One White Rose, One Red Rose by Julie Garwood now and loving it!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I was one of the few who loved it. For the people I've talked to about it, the spanking bothered them. It didn't bother me. I just checked and it's got a pretty low rating. Wow, I had no idea.

It's darker than Passion, more intense, a more tortured hero, in my opinion, but it's definitely not for everyone.

Passion was amazing. I really think you should read that one first.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Courtney, YES! I LOVED Lady Isabella!

Did you read For The Roses yet? That's an all time favorite and comes before The Clayborne Brides.

message 979: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Haven't read it yet but I just requested it at the library! :D

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I felt that the three shorts in the Clayborne Brides were not very good, so if you don't like it, don't give up. Read For the Roses anyway. It's amazing.

Spanking?! I haven't gotten there yet -- their first encounter (bondage and some kinda rough oral sex) is all I've read. It's been very sudden, with no build-up, lead-in or introduction. Kind of "how do you do, now SUBMIT and fellate me!" I guess if I read Passion I'd know the characters already so it wouldn't seem that way?

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Hey, y'all! Currently reading Parallel Seduction (Midnight Warriors, Book 3) by Deidre Knight and just got Double Play by Jill Shalvis from the Goodreads swap.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Tammy, we do meet them in Passion, and we understand from that book how messed up Matt is, and why. But there was no indication of his sexual appetites.

Patience has her own ghosts as well, but we don't find out about hers until her book. They didn't have much interaction, so even though they do know each other, it's not well. So I can see why it would seem sudden. It was. LOL

The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes by, ah-hum, Anne Stuart, Jennifer Crusie, Eileen Dreyer. I have to put AS first because she's why I'm reading it. :)

It's very good. The guys are sexy, I like the sisters, and it has good humor.

I still need to read books 2-4 in the series, Katie. :)

message 991: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I am currently in the process of rereading any of my books that I can't decide if I want to keep. I will be moving and downsizing next year when I turn 62. I want to get rid of at least 7 of my 18 bookcases.

I am dividing the books in piles of keep, discard, and maybe. I will be rereading "maybes". In interest of honesty, I am also rereading some of my favs simply because I can.

Sorry, won't be taking part in any challenges or discussions or trivia challenges till I am done.

Sorry, I don't have the time or energy to list and pack and mail books. I am donating them to local libraries. I started last week and have already had my nurse drop off 6 boxes of books. My bookcases are all double shelved.

Okay. So...I read the first short story in the trio and I'm already just not even willing to read the other two. Bleh.

Looking forward to For the Roses (Rose, #1) by Julie Garwood though. I read the summary and it sounds wonderful!

I ADORE Julie Garwood but I just don't think she does well with the short stories. She needs time to build a world and get REALLY into it!

Oh well! Also starting Surrender (MacKinnon’s Rangers Trilogy, #1) by Pamela Clare tonight! :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Courtney, I found Clayborne Brides to be disappointing, but I LOVED LOVED For the Roses. I hope you'll give that one a shot.

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Lynda wrote: "...My bookcases are all double shelved. "

I thought that was the only way to have bookcases.
