Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I agree with what your saying

This is not a fact but just the way I think. The US always wants to think they are number one the number one country with different races the melting pot, the smartest, the free-est but sometimes I think its really the oppossite. We tend to judge people more and some of the students are def not the smartest I think it all comes down to the way you are brought up and your morals as to how well you do in school. Im in college and I have some of the most annoying grown people in my classes they dnt even stay in the class the dnt do their work. Some even have a Highschool diploma and cant read and do basic math.smh wellllllllllllll

BACK TO READING i GOT SOME SLEEPING PILLS AND ONE OF THOSE EYE MASK THINGIES SO IM GOING TO SLEEP SOON. wOOT WOOOOT.

We're too concerned about hurting people's feelings rather than having them learn. Our education system is declining. It's a mix of student, teacher, parent, and the systems fault. There are some great teachers and some that need to go. Parents need to care more, without pushing so hard we drive our kids to suicide if they get a bad grade. Kids need to stop teasing the smart kids and get realistic and realize that not everything in life is handed to them. (Part of the problem wiht America always thinking it's the greatest, we all seem to think we deserve more without doing more.) We've got to stop being lazy in general or this country is going to fall to China, India, Japan, or whoever else has the drive to work the hardest. The problem with the system is that we pass you even if you fail! How can you be a senior and not be able to read? Do I think you need to stay in kindergarten with the five year olds? NO. There's no reason a senior that has only passed 2 classes in high school should have a locker in the senior bay, be called a senior, be able to participate in any of the activities... 1/2 of the I'm so macho because I'm failing guys wouldn't want to be stuck in the freshmen bay. It's embarrassing. You've got to work hard to get a 4%, trust me.
At the same time, I was one of the smart kids that frequently had to be merged with lower leveled kids in middle school and elementary school so that we could help them. That didn't happen. We did the work so they wouldn't mess up our GPA and they did nothing. I don't care how you set up learning groups, unless the smarter kid is getting graded on how well they teach the other kid, it's rarely ever effective unless every person in the group is invested. I had that happen once in my life and that was in a masters course. I was dumbfounded that everyone actually pulled their weight. I could have learned a lot more if I hadn't had to do that for history and science. I would overlook that if it had helped the other kids, but it didn't so I feel jipped.

I really disliked the first half of the first book. It was so vague but also information overload...does that make sense?? Ha, not really. The author plunges you into this odd world of magic and make-believe. She does a great job describing the scenery, buildings and such but it took a while for me to figure what was actually going on in the story. Book 2 and 3 are my favorite's and I love Kate and Curran.
What drew me to read more is Ilona Andrews created a gritty and scarey world and placed two hilarious characters in the middle of it.

Jessica B | 292 comments I finished Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark, #10) by Kresley Cole last night. It was AMAZING!!

message 1205: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I just read Sloppy Firsts (Jessica Darling, #1) by Megan McCafferty and I liked it. I have to admit, the main character Jessica drove me nuts for more than the first half. She was very annoying with her whole 'my life sucks and I am better than everyone else' attitude. She did start to change and grow and I started really liking the book by the end. I want to read the next one just because the romance in this one didn't get resolved and I want to know what happens.

I agree I hate doing groups always have because it seems I always get stuck with the slackers. In a recent group project I was lucky to have atleast 1 out of the other 3 group members who pulled her own weight. The other two did not comunicate nor praticipate. I contacted them both one girl actually wanted to just do out bibliography and take credit for the project I told her that was a sure NOOO. So she didnt show up at all when it was time to present which was fine with me because she didnt do a thing. Another guy we got no response from he showed up on presentation day like he deserved something and wanted to praticipate we allowed him to help us present our information so we wouldnt make a scene but I made sure the teacher new he did NOTHING at all. Im not really really smart but alot of people think I am because I get good grades. I owe my grades to my organization skills and perfectionism. I work hard for my grades and I get pissed when students slack for no reason esp. when you choose to be some where. I attend a private arts college, tuition is twice as much as a regular university even the private ones. Why would they choose to pay all that money and not do anything.

Because mommy and daddy put them there. It's the same as waisting your college tuition money failing out because you spent all your time at keggers. If you didn't go to college you could have had even more parties and probably still save a lot of money.

yeah I seriously dislike Jessica too. Normally I like sarcastic Daria-like characters. But Jessica is beyond condescending and rude (even when people are trying to be friendly she just looks down on them) and with each book she just gets worse. The first two books are great though because of Marcus Flutie though. He is so dreamy (big sigh here)

message 1212: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Hahaha, he is the only reason I want to read book two!

I read Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder, #2) by Kimberly Derting and thought it was great. It didn't quite have the same creepiness factor as the first one did though, and I figured out what was going on sooner than in the first. I still love Violet, even though she drives me nuts for going off and doing shit by herself. Really Vi, don't you know better by now? Anyway, I still love this series.

Leslie Bhargava | 6 comments Just finished The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss and it was brilliant.

message 1214: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Just finished Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver and loved it! I'm a sucker for those dystopian novels.

message 1215: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon. The book was a quick and gentle read.

Worth paying for? I love Rowen even though her stuff is light. It's generally fun.

message 1218: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I finished Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11) by Kresley Cole on the weekend! Such a good book but I'm so sad that now I'm outta IAD books until next year!

message 1219: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness and I thought it was ok. It seemed like 3/4 of the book dragged on and on and I kept wanting to give up on it, but then I really got into the last 1/4 of it.

message 1220: by Angela (new)

Angela B I finished Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and was just plain sad when it was done. The ending was a twist I never expected and even though the book kept me up until 3am reading when I finished I felt so unsetteled that I didn't fall asleep for another hour! I wish I didn't have so many challenges so I could slip right into Mockingjay but I have other books I gotta read first!

I know it was a punch to the gut when I realized the next IAD was a year away. Maybe she'll have a release this year, but with her Spinoff series or YA one that are coming up?

message 1222: by Angela (new)

Angela B I was just wondering if any of you would recommend and adult dystopia books. I have been loving the YA Dystopia I've been reading and want to look into more in the same catergory. Thanks either way :)

message 1223: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading An Ice Cold Grave. It weasn't a great book, but was a good mystery. I did do some skimming. Some parts of the book seemed redundant.

I had big plans to legthen the series by reading only a few a month. It is now March and I have finished them all! My plan was not very successful!

It would be great if she released something this year. I just hope it can live up to my high standards after IAD.

I have a few that I have been meaning to read that are zombie adult pnr dystopian books. The author is the same author that wrote the Gardella Vampire series and I loved those so I have high hopes for these. The first book is Beyond the Night (Envy Chronicles, #1) by Joss Ware . There is also the highly depressing 1984 that is adult dystopian.

Orwell was just a "little" obsessed with Nazi's wasn't he?

message 1227: by Leslie Bhargava (new)

Leslie Bhargava | 6 comments Finished River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs late last night and it was another excellent addition to the series. Patricia Briggs is definitely one of my favorite authors and Mercy a favorite character. I really enjoy reading about her and Adam.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments The quotes about this book are killing me. I hate waiting for paperback copies!

message 1229: by Angela (new)

Angela B I have 1984 on my list and I shall have to look into Beyond the Night :)

Leslie Bhargava | 6 comments Just finished Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #10) by Laurell K. Hamilton and it was terrible. I haven't liked the series for a couple of books now... the stories are just plain dumb and the writing is terrible... so why do I keep reading. Two reasons... we're reading the series for a bookclub I'm in and it's the 'trainwreck effect'... can't turn away from the terribleness that is Anita Blake.

I totally agree with you about this

message 1240: by [deleted user] (new)

lol Leslie i know what you mean. i recently finished #11. To be honest, i think they are well written (in the sense that they are entertaining and engaging) but the plot/characters are all over the place and it is the same story over and over again (somehow each time the villian is 'STRONGER' and 'DEADLIER' then the previous one, but you just know somehow anita will save the day) except more men/lovers just get added. Also, I can't deal with the description of clothes (so much leather & silk)/how all the men have glorious waist lenght hair. They all sound like Fabio rejects

What Curiosity Kills (The Turning, #1) by Helen Ellis

Kind of weird and so fastpaced it was over before I knew it/anything really happened, but I enjoyed it and thought it was funny

Under Wraps (Underworld Detection Agency, #1) by Hannah Jayne

Meh. I prefer my urbanfantasy heroines to be tough as nails and this one cried every few pages. With the cover I thought it was going to be a more 'serious' urbanfantasy book, but I think the humor is more comparable to the 'Tales of an urban werewolf' series or the 'Love at stakes' series

Lol. I was just thinking yesterday about how so many men in PNR/UF have long, beautiful hair, and I just don't understand the attraction. I feel like I am reading books written in the 80's.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I don't mind shoulder length hair, but anything longer than that feels so outdated.

Rebecca Legalos? Because that was Orlando Bloom and he might be the only exeption to the long hair rule
The other guy has shoulder length

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Viggo as Aragorn? Or Orlando's elf? Both were hot in that movie.

And they bothe were really hot in the movie
