Nick yawned slightly and stood up. "Well, you could say that about a lot of things, Mr. ((?)). Chocolate shops, for instance, and solar panels. I have seen the book, though, and I agree that it is, as you put it, crap. That's why we won't be using the book in this class. Are there any other complaints you'd like to make? Let's get them out of the way now."
((Nyx, like the goddess))
"Hmmm,I'll think up some good ones eventually. Oh, like the fact that you're too young to teach us, my father will love hearing this. Oh, that you don't follow protocol, you did specifically mention not using the books. And the fact that unless you throw someone else in your way or are faster than God, you cannot escape the Killing Curse, so the point of this class is moot and I'll take my T and be on my merry little way."

Nick held up two hands. "Whoa, let's have just one student insult me at a time. Ladies first," he said with a slight grin at Lyra. "Well, Ms. Lupin, if you'll notice I never said that chocolate is crap. As a matter of fact, I rather like it." He reached into his drawer and held up a milk-chocolate bar from honeydukes. "However, a whole shop devoted to it?" He shrugged. "It's just my opinion. And, Mr. Nyx, I happen to be plenty old enough to teach you what you need to know," he said, his eyes hardening just slightly. "And if you think that throwing someone in your way and killing them to save yourself is a solution, then you have something to learn. By all means, feel free to be a skeptic, but I'd appreciate it if you stuck around a bit longer."
"Oh, I'm full of criticism and skepticism, no doubt about that. There's nothing in this class that interests me."He pretended to study the students."nope, nothing.Well, I'll be practicing somewhere or roaming the halls if you need me."He stood up,frowning when his hand bumped the Defense Against the Dark Arts book as though he forgot about it."Oh, one more thing."He drew his wand and pointed it at the book."Confringo!"The book burst into flames."Okay. I'm finished now."
Nick watched. "I'm sure you are, Mr. Nyx. Enjoy your new free time," he said, rubbing the back of his hand with one hand and extinguishing the flames before they could spread. All that was left was a charred mass. This has turned out to be very interesting.
Akrisios smiled."This is fun.Hey Lyra, why not practice a spell, you have a live target. You could hit him with anything, remember, he hates chocolate."
Nick took Ave's spell off and watched Akrisios. "Oh, yes, lots of fun. If you want to go, Mr. Nyx, I suggest you do so, so that the rest of us can get on with wasting time and space." He drummed his fingers against his table. "If you change your mind, though, feel free to come back at any time."
"Actually, there are a few people in this room that don't waste time or space."He raised an eyebrow."You're just not one of them. In fact, you bore me, like someone else. I don't like it when people bore me because I begin to lose interest, and that has nasty effects."
((Me too. I love all of this.))
Nick, for once, didn't really know what to say. "I'm glad that there are at least a few people worth your time," he said to Akrisios. When Lyra spoke his gaze snapped to her.

Akrisios gripped the edge of the table and tried to swallow."Shut up.I'll warn you, snakes are fun."His gained control and looked her in the face."But pretty little snakes that have cocky mouths are much more fun."He looked away sharply, trying to reign in his anger.
Nick was surprised at the sudden anger that radiated from the Slytherin boy. Was there something more here than what there appeared to be?
Nick decided that enough was enough, and snapped his fingers. "Okay, that's plenty good. I think that this discussion would be better continued in detention, though since I doubt very much that either of you would show up I won't bother giving one. But I would very much like it if it were possible for our lesson to begin."
((Yeah, I feel sorta weird now, though... I don't really know how to handle two explosive 11-year-olds.))
"I did. and you flatter yourself, as always. I never said you were worth my time.Oh, and as for throwing someone in front of a curse, you would. You would because you're a coward.I hope your pretty little pussy is dead. In fact, if I see it in the halls, it will be."He walked toward the door."Thanks for calling me cute, though I already figured that one out. As for deserving to die,"He smiled."I never said I didn't. Professor, I'm going to leave school grounds, I have a matter of business to attend to that will only take a few moments."I can not lose it here...Not another headline like the one...
Nick's fingers were still drumming the table quietly. "I can't say I can authorize that, Mr. Nyx. But I won't alert anyone else this time. Go on." These kids need some serious help.
Akrisios regarded her silently."Oh, like I've said before, this is far from-"His hands shook, eyes widening.I'm not going to make it.Not in the hall..."Professor, is there somewhere, a room, a large room that I could, um, go in for a few moments? One close...without, uh, witnesses?"
((Me too! And it's the middle of the night, which just makes everything that much more funny.))
Nick's eyes widened as he watched Akrisios. What's going on? "Two doors down," he said quickly, sensing that this was a bad time for questioning. "It's an old classroom, no one will be in there."

((Okay.))
Caleb clenched his hands in his lap. "What's going on?" He asked Lyra. "I mean, I get some of it, but what's wrong with him?"

((I agree.))
Caleb nodded slowly, glad that she felt better but still puzzled. "Oh. That's... interesting," he said. "I'm glad that you stood up to him."

((lol, I had to shower))
Akrisios choked."I can't believe you!"He managed after a few garbled attempts. He clenched his eyes shut. This shouldn't happen!I trained myself...My anger is so...He opened his mouth to thank Professor Hayden but thought better of it, throwing the door open. It flew back and hit the wall with a thud and muffled his footfalls as he escaped down the hall.

((She's back!!))
The room was silent after Akrisios left, with no one knowing what to say. Nick couldn't really get it into him to start the lesson now, but knew he needed to. Otherwise things could get out of hand quickly. "Probably," he agreed. He wrote one word on the whiteboard with a marker. Duel. "Can anyone tell me what they think of when they hear this word?" He asked, the words sounding strange in the silent, stunned classroom.

((Mean sauce! *cries*))
Caleb raised his hand half-heartedly.
Nick looked at the two Slytherins in the middle of the room. "I bet these answers will be interesting, after our pre-class events. Ms. Lupin."

((she can speak out loud, the thought thing is creepy, but if she does it out loud then the class will be like..."uh?"))
((and Lyra's answer better be Akrisios kicking Hufflepuff butt))
((and Lyra's answer better be Akrisios kicking Hufflepuff butt))
Nick raised one eyebrow. "I see there's an 'inside joke' going on here. Okay, well, if that makes sense to you, Ms. Lupin. Thanks." He looked around. Avery and Caleb were now both raising their hands. "Mr. Avery Sheppard."
Avery clenched one hand in his lap. "It makes me think of fighting, obviously, and danger." That was a lousy answer. But Professor Hayden was nodding.
"Both are very true. And I'd like to teach you a bit about dueling that you probably haven't heard of before. Well, even more probably, since you're first years." He rubbed the back of his head again. "In our earlier conversation we talked about using human shields. Unforgivables aside, what are some alternatives to that?" ((How long should the class last?))

((Because, he totally would have won and you know it.))
(Here it goes...)
Akrisios had barely made it into the hallway. It was dim and musty. The perfect place...He thought sourly. His legs gave out, like they had suddenly lost all of their support, bones liquefying. He struggled futilely, making his way inch by inch away from the door. The pain was excruciating, but not nearly as much as the thought of being seen. He had to get to that-I won't make it!He let himself relax.Of course, dim-wit, if you don't relax there will be pain, like a werewolf you have to accept it, even if you know no one else will. He dreaded this, the animal instinct and anger taking complete control, like the alley. There had been so many, of course they ran. Any terrified animal will strike when threatened or cornered. He hated the vulgarity of being trapped inside his head and watching as he....No, stop! You can't help it. They brought it upon themselves. They must have deserved it...He could feel his control slipping, the moment of bliss that followed until the pain returned tenfold. His breath whooshed out, leaving him gasping.I needed to learn how to control it, but no, that would take too long. So now I'm unregistered and uncontrollable. Lovely. He winced as the sound of ripping fabric echoed along the corridors. His eyes flickered to his wand, it was safe and against the wall. He let out a sigh, and it was over. He rose to his full height, and bumped his head on the ceiling.

Nick nodded. "Excellent answer, Ms. Lupin," he said, faintly curious about quiet noises from a spare room down the hall. "But, does casting spells use magical energy, even defensive ones?"
Nick nodded. "I was just wondering if anyone knew. But, you're right. They do. And a shield spell like Protego uses a lot of it. There are some alternatives to that. Ms. Lupin, would you like to assist me in a demonstration?"
((he's pretty much screwed))
He shook his head, the delusions of change casting a hazing his thoughts. His neck swerved with the sudden movement.I'm always amazed at the speed...and understanding.Nothing should think like this. Now I have to tell someone, who?Lyra! His growl became a low his when he thought about her.She did this to me. I can only imagine the look on her face when she walked out of class and saw me, well, before I tore her apart. His stomach hurt.Oh sure, that would be disgusting. He shuddered.I can't hurt her or them...not now.She speaks Parseltongue.Good. He willed himself forward...and slammed into the wall opposite the classroom."Great, this is so much fun. Stupid twists. Lyra? Can you hear me?"

"Lyra..."Agitation was creepy into his voice as he strained to keep himself from the door."Listen to me, you have to tell, this is pointless. You won't do it, at least find the sense not to come into the hall or let any mud-muggleborns into the hallways."
Nick looked at her oddly. "No, my name is Professor Hayden. But before that. You weren't speaking English." ((*almost falls asleep*))
((I'm totally serious. I might be able to hang around for ten more minutes before passing out at my desk. ^_^))
Caleb shrugged slightly and sat down next to Lyra.
