I recently finished Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, and I thought it was amazing! Right now I'm reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, and it's really good.

Jen wrote: "Rachel I definitely loved Heist Society too! I loved Ally Carter and the Gallagher Girl series, but this new one was so different and I couldn't put it down!"I agree! Heist Society was amazing! Can't wait for the second one.
I loved reading Homeless Bird and The Breadwinner. They were two coming of age stories from different cultures (India and Afghanistan respectively) and I enjoyed learning about the culture with the two strong females in the books.
I recently read a great YA title: Luna by Julie Anne Peters. It tells the story of a transgender teen from the younger sister's perspective. A very good read--great character development and genuine conflict (rather than the contrived angst that pervades too many YA narratives). I highly recommend it! I love that there is so much Markus Zusak love in this thread! The Book Thief is one of my favorites.

@Meredith- Thank you :) I am trying to get more LBGT books in my classroom library, but they often aren't appropriate for middle school.
You're welcome! :) I think that the subject matter itself is handled in such a way that middle schoolers would be ready for it, but the language might be an obstacle (example: the characters say the "sh" word pretty often).

It is hard to decide when it is too much...
Most reviews for the book say 15+ (although one said 13+).
Twenty Boy Summer was my favourite book. From the title it seemed like it would be a light, fluffy read, but it's actually very deep and profound.

I LOVED the Book Theif. It's a great, but tragic book
Jan wrote: "What is the best book you have read so far this month?Mine is Surrender, by Sonya Hartnett.

WOW, that's very hard! I don't know if I can choose. Let's see.. I did like The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong a lot. The characters where great and the powers those kids have..wowee. :)
The fortunes of Indigo Skye!!!! Of all Deb Caletti's book, it is definetely one of funniest and most original. loved it.
Just finished Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness. It's the third book in the Chaos Walking trilogy. Soooo good!!!
I recently read The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen and really liked it. The message of the book affected me cause I could really relate to the story!
Shannon wrote: "Lover Mine by J.R. Ward. YUM;)"Is the whole Blay/Quinn thing way more interesting than J.M. and Xhex or is it just me??

Kaye wrote: "I just read a book called So. B. It, and really enjoyed it. It is appropriate for older children and young adults. "I read So B. It a couple of summers ago and absolutely love, love, love it!
Lil wrote: "I recently read The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen and really liked it. The message of the book affected me cause I could really relate to the story!"I heard so much great stuff about this writer, I think I will try it too. :)
The best book for me was: My Double Life!
I really liked How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff. It was such an interesting dystopian story, but a quick read too.
Nina wrote: "Lil wrote: "I recently read The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen and really liked it. The message of the book affected me cause I could really relate to the story!"I heard so much great stuf..."
I think you should check out her other books. I can definitly say that you'll like every single book she has wrote:)
I just finished, and loved, Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev. It was a unique and fun read- I highly recommend it.The sequel Perchance to Dream is a fairly recent release and sitting on my to read pile. Somewhere after Infinity, Sisters Red and The Reckoning.
I've read two books I loved this month. Unfortunately, both are the beginning of a series. I hate waiting for new books in a series!!!Siren
Raised by Wolves
City of GlassIf you haven't read The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare you are totally missing out. City of Glass is my favorite read of the month =) but i've read like quite a few books this month n i loved them all but this is still my fav.
Heather wrote: "My favorite has been Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and her sequel New Moon."omg if you like twilight please read The Mortal Instruments. The 1st book is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. After reading the twilight series i never thought i'd never love any other book series but Cassandra Clare has won me over =) Im reading vampire academy #2 right now and its awesome too!
Jodie, I totally agree that the Mortal Instruments Series are my favorite reads of 2010 so far- I couldn't put them down and I loved the characters and Cassandra Clare's world are riveting!
The Art of Devotion by Samantha Bruce-Benjamin. Told from the vantage point of 4 different women on an island in the Mediterranean Sea in the 1920s and 30s, this is a beautifully written story of heartbreak, devotion, loss and betrayal. The author is being compared to F. Scott Fitzgerald. I would highly recommend it.
Cecy, I loved Get Well Soon! and she has a new one out too! I am loving Dead is the New Black by Marlene Perez.
I enjoyed reading Sara Shepard, all of the 8
series. My middle school students were all over these books last year, and it is easy to understand why. Very girly books with the usual scandal and bad behavior are made into a gripping series thanks to elements of mystery, horror and suspense.
AngelaSunshine wrote: "I really liked How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff. It was such an interesting dystopian story, but a quick read too."Love How I Live Now. I recommended it to 7th grader who enjoys reading holocaust and adventure stories, and she loved this tale of survival.
It was a really cute, fluffy, mermaid book :)Also reread the Harry Potter series again. Amazing series! Can't wait for part one of the Deathly Hallows movie!
I read Cassidy by Lori Wick and really liked it. It was an interesting, wholesome, sweet story. It is the first of a series.
