January 2010 Reading Challenge

Just finished Pure Blood (Nocturne City, Book 2) by Caitlin Kittredge, which I give 4 stars.
The Nocturne City series is an urban fantasy novel set in the fictional city of Nocturne City. NC exists somewhere in the U.S. (as there's a mention from time to time of other places like San Francisco) but an alternate U.S. where werewolves and magic exist - no mention of vampires, though.
The protagonist, Luna Wilder, is a homicide detective with the Nocturne City PD as well as an Insoli, or packless, werewolf. She's a balls-to-the-wall, pedal-to-the-metal, quick-to-flare adrenaline junkie, so the storyline is always a fast-paced adventure.
In this second book (of four, so far), Luna is just returning from medical leave after the events of the first book and stumbles over an apparent OD case that she strongly suspects is murder. Suddenly bodies are turning up all over town all linked by a cryptic message: "We see with empty eyes . . . " Luna is struggling to put the pieces of the investigation together, juggle wolfishly handsome pack-leader, Dimitry, her own estranged family members, and a new partner who seems to have her own link to the murders.
I enjoyed this book and have already added the next two to my "to buy" list. Similar series, IMO, are: Crimson City series by multiple authors, The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, The Others series by Christine Warren, & Tales of An Urban Werewolf series by Karen MacInerney.

Kelley Anne, as much as we normally have the same taste in books... I have problems (big biiig problems) with Sherillyn Kenyon's writing style. I'm also not a big fan of YA books (the Host is that right?).
As I don't live in the US, I can't go to the librabry to get books for free. And I'm reluctant to spend money on books I think I'm going to hate.
But we'll see how it goes after I read Night Pleasures. Hmmmm and come to think of it: one has to have read at least one book by Stephenie Meyer right? As I haven't read the Twilight books maybe I should try The Host....

1. vampires: Touch the Dark
2. werewolves: Captivate
3. shifters: Stray
4. gods/goddesses/immortals: Succubus Heat
5. demons/angels: Hush, Hush currently reading

I don't think The Host is YA. At least it's not in the YA section in book stores. And it doesn't read like YA. It does take about 100 pages to get going though.

I just finished Evermore. What a cute story! I have to confess, I picked it because of the cover. I love tulips. There are tons of tulips in this book, lol. Great YA book. I will have to read the rest of the series.

Laura. Midnight's Daughter. Yay! You're going to love it! You could use the sequel Death's Mistress for either the Shifters category or the Hunters category.

Also, this book is NOTHING like Twilight. In fact, it doesn't even seem like the same author. You should give it a shot!

I've had that book sitting on my shelf for over a year and just can't seem to make myself read it.
Is Bitten a reread for you or have you not read that series before? I love that book!

Yes, it was very good, but I think it was because I was already invested in the characters and the story. It had some flaws and some minor things that bugged me a little, but Adrian Phoenix excels at writing stuff that completely hooks me and keeps me up all night trying to finish.
You need to read In The Blood - I just re-read it and it's way better than A Rush of Wings.

Goody, cause I already liked A Rush of Wings. I didn't read your Beneath the Skin review yet as you worte that it had spoilers for In the Blood. I'll get the book asap and start reading the books. I think I can shuffle around in my challenge list to fit the books in (angels/demons, gods/immortals, vampires)... shouldn't be too difficult.
I see you're still rereading the Cassie series. Did you get DM today?

It seems like we're going to have to fight over him girls...
I added The Host to my TBR Kelley Anne.

I read it in the end of Lover Avenged. And read it again in the end of Covet. I am counting the days with you. I made my Lover Mine review an update page with confirmed news and new quotes from the book. Did you read those? One is really funny, the others are hot hot hot!

About the review update page, how do you do that? Is that on her website or on goodreads?

I feel like I'm off to a slow start. Bad way to start the year."
I'm starting it tonight and hope to finish it tomorrow night. It looks kind of short (about 292 pages) and the type is spaced far apart, lol.
