Goal: 20 (10 paper and 10 ebook)
Challenge Description: Read 10 paper books and 10 ebooks that I already own before the year is over. This is to help prevent me from compulsively buying books when I have enough to last me at least a year. I know it won't completely prevent it but it should help get the pile down LOL! They will be from ANY genre I choose. They can span from one month to the next unlike most of the challenges I am doing. (I can start a book in one month and finish it the next and it still counts as long as it is completed during the challenge duration)

Lost on an Island with Sawyer

Goal: 24 Books total

Description: Any Lost fan(atic) will tell you Sawyer is a great bibliophile. Book references regularly pop up in unexpected places and the creative heads behind the series have acknowledged many works of literature and authors that have inspired them. I’ve wanted to explore these books for a while but never seem to get around to it. This challenge is just the incentive I need to achieve the goal. There are 12 books that Sawyer is known to have read and I’m committing to reading all of them. Additionally, I will choose 12 of the other 72 books either referenced by characters or acknowledged as influential by the writers/producers.

I have been watching LOST on DVD, and I'll admit there are times I have been lost in LOST. : )

Just curious, where did you get your list of books mentioned or referenced by Sawyer? Did you take notes while watching or is it posted somewhere online?

I freely admit I’m a Lostie. I’ve bought every season as soon as it became available on DVD and even managed to hook a couple of good friends. I regularly visit websites and blogs that discuss the series. Some books I clearly remember seeing Sawyer read. Watership Down is one of the first and who could forget his “not nearly enough sex” comment on Are You There God, Its Me Margaret. He’s mentioned Of Mice and Men again this season in recent conversations. Some books made it onto the list just because he’s quoted or referenced text, although he may not have actually read them. “You too, Brute” is a fairly well known paraphrase and most people understand the basic plot of Lord of the Flies. Some books I pulled off of the Lostpedia site. I love this wiki! There are lots of set descriptions, right down to the title of the Tami Hoag book on Jack’s office bookshelf in LA. There is at least one questionable book that I left off the original twelve, but it might make it onto the second list. Laughter in the Dark by Vladimir Nabokov is in Sawyer’s stash and though we see Hurley reading it, Sawyer has never once referenced it himself. My library had several, but amazon had a bunch that I had purchased. They were re-releasing a ton of them in paperback and I had picked them up but had yet to read them (hence why I did the challenge) :) You can also find some on paperbackswap.

Goal: 24 Books total

Description: Any Lost fan(atic) will tell you Sawyer is a great bibliophile. Book references regularly pop up in unexpected places and the creative heads behind the series have acknowledged many works of literature and authors that have inspired them. I’ve wanted to explore these books for a while but never seem to get around to it. This challenge is just the incentive I need to achieve the goal.
