I LOVED Halfway to the Grave--could Bones be more perfect? I just finished it and could have bawled at the end.
I soooo want to grab the next book right now and start reading it, but I have to finish wrapping Santa presents--damn kids. :)

Just finished Bring It On (★★★★) by Laura Anne Gilman. Out of the nine books on my list, this might be the newest one. I discovered the series in spring of 2008, so it's only been on my TBR for about 20 months. The series so far is pretty solidly in the urban fantasy genre. The Retrievers series take place in a modern day version of NYC where magic & non-human beings called the fatae (fairy, mythological, demonic creatures) exist side-by-side with humans.
Our protagonist, Wren Valere, is a Retriever, a magical version of a cat-burglar for hire. And when you're a magical human in NYC you're either with the Mage Council or you're a lonejack against it.
I find these books somewhat similar in tone to the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson, the Mercy Hollings series by Toni Andrews, or The Negotiator series by C.E. Murphy - so if you like any of those, I would recommend this series to you as well.

You'll love it I'm sure. There's a really really funny part towards the end which is just hilarious. And there's some other infamous scene in the end... We have a lot to talk about! :)
Ok, I still need to read 2 more books. I'm thinking that on the 26th I'm going to do nothing but lounge around in bed and read, read, read and then, just to vary things, I'll move to the SOFA and read some more. :o)

Don't feel bad, I've been putting off the latest, An Echo in the Bone since it came out in late September, which just happened to coincide with me starting these challenges in October--it's hard to commit to a 992 page book when you're doing the challenges. But I'm reading it for the Jan challenge too, in the time travel category. :)
And I had a ton of lol moments in Curse the Dawn--I don't know if it was because the book was funnier, or just that at that point I "knew" the characters so well, but I loved it. Especially the comments that resulted from her little pawn shop find. :)

This latest book was a YA and only sorta-kinda-maybe fits in the PNR category. Its actually more of a fantasy than anything else, with almost zero romance in it. The way I found The Prophecy of the Stones is kind of funny. I also belong to the "What's the name of that book" GR group. One of the people was actually looking for this book--and after reading (and trying to help) the person find it, I decided I just "had" to read it myself. So I searched around and finally found a used copy. So, for those of us who love YA books--give this one a try.

Well, there it is--all 9 books are finally finished. Even if I didn't get to follow my plans for the day (spending it in bed reading, with moving to the sofa and reading there as my exercise of the day.) Had to do a few things--I just could NOT look at my kitchen any longer and had to clean it. Then went to the store (hubby was so NON-understanding about no food in the house) and also finished off a book I started way back at the beginning of the month. So, I guess I DID get a little bit accomplished today. :o)

Just finished Queen of Dragons (The Drakon, Book 3) by Shana Abe (★★★1/2). This series takes place in 18th century Europe (this book mostly in England) and is about a race of dragon/human shapeshifters called the drakon. Queen of Dragons continues the overall story of The Drakon, but centering the story on Lord Kimber Langford (son to Rue from Book 1 & sister to Lia in book 2) and Princess Maricara of a previously unknown tribe of drakon from the Carpathian mountains.
Mari learns of a group killing off Drakon called The Others and must warn the English Drakon before it's too late. Only by joining forces will either branch of the Drakon survive.
I've always loved this series for being a somewhat original story. A dragon race that has the ability to turn into a smoke form & a human form and has been hiding in plain sight by living in human form. In the 18th century! Love it! I'm also looking forward to the next book to see how the war with The Others plays out, however, the romance is pretty standard fare.
Definitely pick up if you're a fan of dragons, romance, & historical England. To my knowledge no other series out there right now is a direct comparison.
