Stuart Jeffery | 1 comments Hi Everyone!

I've done a thing and written a book...

Art Tretherick’s initiation into adulthood didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped. Being in a mine when it collapsed was an accident but getting buried underground for a second time was deliberate.

Set far in the future, this fast moving story sees our heroes tackle problem after problem, weaving solutions from within a new world view and just some remnants of 21st century technology to help them.

Hope you like it!

David Flin | 13 comments A Kindle book for those of you who wondered about the End of the World.

How It Works: Apocalypse, by Andy Cooke, looks at all the different ways that the world might end, be it the end of all existence down to mere mass destruction of the human race. It looks at how these could happen, and what the chances of each happening are.

Aimed at Young Adults. Fortunately, it's not a How To guide for budding Bond villains.

Think fairy tale, crossed with a bit of Russian mythology, squeezed into a Victorian setting. And, of course, it's primarily aimed at a YA market.

Matt Orlando (mattyobooks) | 13 comments Hi reader,

I wanted to introduce myself and my latest mystery thriller novel released January 2022! My name is Matt Orlando and my book Migrant.

Many, many... many years ago I graduated from Salinas High School. In the past five years, I was called to write a murder mystery set in Salinas, CA, which at one point held the title "Homicide Capital of California" and/or "Youth Homicide Capital of the Country". If you’re interested in why I chose this topic, I wrote a blog on my website, mattorlandobooks.com

As a self-published author, releasing a book is satisfying, but also challenging and stressful. I’m putting this out there in hopes to get more readers and more reviews.

MIGRANT is about a Hispanic Police Detective who must find a killer in one of the highest per-capita murder cities in the United States.

If you want a book of Murder, Migrants, and Gangs in Salinas Valley, check out my latest, "MIGRANT".

FULL SUMMARY:
Salinas police detective Mike Garcia is tasked with investigating the murder of a gang member found in the lettuce field of a rich grandfather he had never met. Having been a beat cop in 2009 when Salinas was known as the Youth Murder Capital of California, he knew what sort of retaliation was coming from the clashing gang members that had never stopped the killing. There would be blood on the streets and fear in the community that still hadn’t recovered from the nightly murders. With little evidence and a frightened community, Mike struggles to follow minuscule leads. Then, in a shootout with members of the opposing gang who are backed by one of the most feared Mexican criminal organizations in the country, Mike unintentionally brings the darkness he desperately tried to hide from his family, right to their doorstep. Now, he must not only catch his prime suspect, but he must also survive him.

E.K. Frances | 9 comments Hi everyone!

My name is E.K. Frances and I am the author of The Hybrid. It is set in the future where some humans have powers which are either Light or Dark – these humans are called alphas.

The Hybrid is the first in a series and follows the story of Sebastian who joins an academy to learn how to control his powers. He is forced to join the Dark but is actually Light. It’s quite a dark novel in which Sebastian faces rejection from the Light alphas and brutality from Dark alphas. It’s ultimately about his path – whether he will choose Light or Dark in the face of incredible challenges.

I would love to get any feedback – good or bad (but hopefully good :))

Thanks!!
E.K.

I've been trying to get my profile linked with my book on Goodreads, but so far it hasn't worked. Any help with that will be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I need readers and will be running a free eBook giveaway starting tomorrow on Amazon and hope you will give my book a try and gift me with a review! This young adult sci-fi novel takes you on a journey with a time-traveling teen who happens to hate school... Know any teens (or adults) who can relate? ;-) Somehow she stumbles into a future she can hardly believe. The education system has changed drastically and society is completely different, and now going home is more difficult than before.

Hi Michelle. I am not an author but I think you can try this method to link your profile to your book. Go to your book page and click on your name in the 'Author' column. This will bring you to the Author page. Scroll to the bottom. (You need to do this on a desktop - it doesn't work on smartphones.) Search for this text - "Is this you? Let us know." Just click on that and try.

Lester Fisher | 215 comments At age 75 y. o. I have seen a good part of the 21st Century by the time I was 30, so my memoir is definitely about young adulthood! It goes back to my relatives at the turn of the 19th century, but is largely about my adventures growing up in the Northwest of the USA and my tour in the Peace Corps in Kenya. The second book is about bringing a Kenyan family to the USA. Happenstance Against the Tide

message 877: by Lester (new)

Lester Fisher | 215 comments Michelle Peck, does YA have to be fantasy? Doesn't anyone every read true stories about actual people any more? when I was a kid, all the stories and movies were about real people, Like Hellen Keller, Madame Currie, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Benjamin Franklin, and then the war stories began. Sergeant York, Eddie Rickenbacker, Audie Murphy, J. F Kennedy, etc. Don't we have any real heroes any longer?

message 878: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Peck (michelle_peck) | 8 comments Good questions, Lester!
I chose to write a science fiction over fantasy novel because I wanted the characters and situations to be as real as possible despite the time distortion. As far as heroes go, due to our current education system over the past half century, we are seeing an ebb in moral and ethical leadership while technology is increasing and making more visible all the darkness that was once hidden. If you read my book, this topic is actually explored. :)
Cheers!

Oh, that's sad. In the past fortnight or so, Goodreads has become very slow with such updates because of a change to their policy. They now allow only librarians to add books and I guess this has resulted in the librarians becoming overloaded with requests. You could try making a request about the linking of profiles in the "Goodreads Librarians" group.

I wish you good luck for your book. It sounds really interesting, and the title is excellent. :) I saw that it was available as a free deal on Amazon so I grabbed a copy. I will try my best to read it soon and leave an honest review.

Thanks Michelle for replying to my post. I like Sci Fi, but I find myself reading less of it, because the pressures of current reality makes it seem indulgent to be speculating about the future. What you say about the dark side of reality being exposed is very true! I know my own daughter and son-in-law are so disenamored with current political reality that they refuse to vote. Nothing could be worse for the survival of our way of life. I have blogged my letters to President Biden about the war in Ukraine. But in reality, we face a dystopian future here in America if we don't make good choices. Meantime, I hope some will take a look at the life of this boomer and know that some of us tried to make a better world, with varying degrees of success.

Michelle Peck (michelle_peck) | 8 comments Hi Jane! and thanks for trying to help me!!!

I set up an account here first, but didn't know how to make it an "author" profile. My newly published book wasn't in this database so that took many weeks for the volunteer librarians to add it. Once they did that, I tried clicking on the link "Is this you? Let us know..." without success. Maybe there is another way to link a profile to the book one has written? Idk.

Michelle Peck (michelle_peck) | 8 comments Lester, I certainly understand your concerns and frustration, and your story is similar to what is going on across America.

As a teacher, I am almost overwhelmed daily by the educational system that students and teachers suffer through and the society being created by this same system. (Just watch the news to understand.) That's the motivation I had to write the book. And the book is not a long string of complaints or boring analysis. It's a fun creative journey, simple enough for a 13 year old to read, but enlightening enough that I've had 50 year old plus adults read it and love it.

I hope you'll take advantage of the free book campaign going on today and give it a try! You might be pleasantly surprised! :)

Donna Diebold | 15 comments Michelle, it sounds like you are having as much difficulty as I am, trying to set up a link to my book (from Goodreads, Amazon, Word). I googled creating a link and tried to follow their directions step-by-step, but when it said to find the word 'Author' on the page, I never found the word anywhere, despite many attempts. I think my problem might be double fold--1. I don't understand tech terminology, and 2. I'm not sure which device (laptop, IPad, PC, etc) that I'm supposed to be on, in order to be able to follow the instructions. I wish I lived with a tekkie guru who could explain. So, unfortunately, I've had to give up trying to set up a link.

Anyone out there who could write a 'Setting Up Links for Dummies'?

If You Expect The Unexpected, Then It Won’t Be Unexpected Anymore is a diverse mix of short stories. Some dark, some funny, some spooky - but every story begins in the real world and then has a big twist!

Features prize winning story Weapons of Mass Destruction which had the following write-up from best-selling crime writer Tim Weaver. “The clear winner. Brutal, funny, inventive, this cross between Grange Hill and The Hunger Games is wonderfully evoked. Its rules are clear, its characters fleshed out, there’s pace, tension and a suitably jet-black twist.”

Synopsis:

Elliott Cairnholm was destined to an unremarkable life. The only child of lower middle class parents, there was nothing about him that would warrant his name in the newspaper, let alone on the radio or TV.

That was until he found his parent’s brutally murdered in their bedroom.

Now he gets to spend his adolescence with all of the normal growing pains: losing friends and gaining new ones, school, teen love, being an orphan, teen pregnancy, gangs, and another homicide to wrap it all up.

Janet Peters | 4 comments Hi, Writers & Readers!
I'm looking forward to participating in this group. I recently published my book "Cracks in the Heart" on Amazon both in Kindle and paperback. It centers around a disaster which happened in 1963 in Los Angeles, my home town. Little has ever been written about the event.
Theme:
After her parents' neglect results in a near-death experience, teenaged art prodigy Laura is visited by her colorful guardian angel. She is challenged to honor her mother and father, a struggle indeed with the increasing dysfunction and revealed secrets in her home.
The spiritual and the paranormal entwine themselves throughout the book, as Laura tries to hold together the already fractured family under the Baldwin Hills Dam. Inspired by true events.

Elaine Gao | 6 comments Hi, I’m 16, the young adult in this young adult fiction authors thread! My name is Elaine Gao, and I just self published my debut novel, The Oracle.

Synopsis: The Helot Slave and the Spartan Prince do not fraternize, unless the supernatural custodian of fate happened to interweave Lyra and Leonid’s fates together.

Lyra, the one true oracle in the temple, saw him bleeding to death in her visions. Refusing to accept this end, she went with him on his journey to Athens. She had a mission at the Temple of Delphi to compete for a priestess position, but the Pythia in charge had other plans—five inhumane trials designed for betrayals and bloodshed. The strong resistance Lyra encountered forced her to race with time. But from the start, are futures able to be rewritten?

Leonid loathed the throne of Sparta that was paved by his brothers’ assassinations. He had fought tooth and nail to consolidate his kingship, but his revenge didn’t account for her, the girl he once vowed to protect. Newfound feelings for her began to get in the way. As he walks a dangerous line between Athenian rivals who want his head, he must weigh her and Sparta on opposite ends of the balance. But only fate will know the ultimate price of his decision.

Please leave a review after you read it. I’d be very grateful! Thanks

Michael Lareaux | 9 comments A Place to Run Free

Thank you, Vincent, for the opportunity to show my book to potential readers. My name is Michael LaReaux, and I recently published "A Place to Run Free" through a small publisher called Stormbird Press.

Eleven year old Jake Phillips decides to sneak out of his bedroom after being suspended from school. An accident sends him to the afterlife, but not the one he learned about in church. Jake ends up in the afterlife of pets, a place where they wait until they can reunite with their human companions.

Jake discovers that all is not well in his new domain. Something lurks in the shadows, stealing away dogs and cats. Jake undertakes a quest to find the missing animals and set them free. With the help of the giant dog Ursus, the steadfast horse Blue,
a Scottish Terrier named Gordon, and the crafty rat Azrak, Jake is determined to set things right. He'll just have to find strength and courage along the way.

Although it's being marketed as a YA title, I've had readers as young as eleven and as old as eighty. My original plan was to write a story that parents could read to their kids, but I think that the story will resonate with anyone who ever loved a pet.

Eve's Covering

Eve is troubled by the mysterious circumstances surrounding her cousin Alice’s death, but the police won’t take her seriously. When Eve’s family becomes entangled with a religious cult, she struggles with the ideas and leaders who now assume control over her life. But when her rebellion threatens the safety of her family, she gives in and joins the cult’s mission: an orphanage in the Soviet Union. Or, at least that’s the mission on the surface. When Eve discovers the orphanage is a cover for something much more sinister, she sets out to rescue her friends who’ve slowly disappeared, one at a time. The trouble is–she knows too much. If she's caught, it will be the end of them all.

Eve’s Covering is inspired by the author’s personal experience of life in a cult. Written as fiction, much of Eve’s life is based on her own move to northern Michigan, where her family joined a cult, costing her her friends, family, and everything she held dear. When strange, supernatural things began to happen, she escaped, and ended up homeless in a foreign country before making her way home–only to find it gone. This is her story. This is Eve’s story. A story of escape and of God’s covering of protection: Eve’s Covering.

L.H. Chevalier (lhchevalier) | 7 comments It is my pleasure to introduce my first and probably not my last book, Unknown Son!

It's about a young man who is found in the woods and taken back to the castle, where he tries to remember what happened and tries to live again, but is soon forced to run for his life again.

It's mostly funny, sometimes scary, and if you're over 80, it's downright horror. :)

Give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it.
If not, well, it's all going to be over soon... like, seriously, it's a short book.

I'll gladly send the book in exchange for a review, but I'm not from the US and I don't have a place to store it, so only the e-book.

I hope, you will like it!

Pennyeach Collective | 1 comments Everyone!

We are Pennyeach Collective, and we write books for young people, old people, and for people in general.
Our first group effort is a YA novel called "I'll Go On" and is available for free with Kindle Unlimited.
About the novel:
“These pictures were supposed to be for them.”

This is how Simon begins telling the story of his final three years of high school. The graduation ceremony has just ended, and instead of celebrating with Benji and Hailey, he’s home in his room looking at the photo album he put together that was to be their gift.

Simon picked up photography during his sophomore year—the year he, Benji, and Hailey became best friends—and spent the next three years honing his craft and documenting their lives together: learning French, hanging out at their favorite café, Le Chat Noir, spending time at Hailey’s house, goofing around out at the park, and just plain growing up. They were inseparable, even after Benji and Hailey became a couple. For all three of them, life could have continued like that forever. But midway through their senior year (and midway through the novel), their world is shattered when Hailey learns that she is pregnant. What follows is a cross-country road trip in search of an abortion.

Narrated as an album of imaginary photographs, “I’ll Go On” captures the lives of three friends as they navigate their teen years and, ultimately, their way clear across America in an attempt to salvage their friendship and their innocence.

Thank you for giving it a look!
