Marialyce I am starting Felicia's Journey and The Strain after finishing Gilead and Mockingjay. I heard that William Trevor is an amazing author and the other book is a Halloween read of sorts.

Bunny (bunnycates) Im trying to read The Historian but I'm just not getting into it. I've put it away once already and I just am not interested. I'm going to give it another 100 pages then give up.

WHY: I had asked on Facebook for some GREAT READS, and several said it was "awesome". Ummm... lol.

message 2655: by Larry (new)

Larry (hal9000i) Bunny, you into photography?

I've had it on my shelf for a couple of years now. Maybe it'll sit there for a bit longer now.. lol

message 2658: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I listened to The Historian and liked it but not sure if I could have sat and read it in print.

I am reading Death by Inferior Design by Leslie Caine. I was in the mood for a easy cozy read.

I just can't do much "serious" reading anymore. Probably because of all the stress in my life the last couple of years.

I think I will! Sometimes it's in the first few paragraphs or chapter of a book when you'll know you're in for a good ride and be transfixed with the story. Glad to have found the recommendation here in goodreads :)

well I read about 40 pages a day of Pillars and them switch to the other books- nice to "mind-travel" between books and their plots and locations!

Ann Marie (authorannmarie) | 29 comments finished 'Ape House'...t'was no 'Water for Elephants'...picked up 'The Good Daughters'...was very good...perhaps this is because 'Ape House' was such a let down but I did enjoy 'The Good Daughters' and the fact that it did not take weeks to read...am now opening 'The Scent of Rain and Lightning' by Nancy Pickard because when I closed my eyes and picked from the six remaining in my pile this is what I ended up with

Howard (hkbeale) | 44 comments Larry wrote: "The White Company, as in Conan Doyle? Never read it myself but my brother is a Conan Doyle collector"

As in Conan Doyle. I believe The White Company was written first. Should you be tempted to sample, however, you might want to start with Sir Nigel (written second). This covers the young Nigel and his path to knighthood whereas in White Company, Nigel is a mature, experienced warrior and commander and the love interest is Nigel's squire.

Gini | 106 comments I'm reading Stephen King's Bag of Bones. I avoided King for many years, thinking he was a hack, but I've read several of his books lately and he is quite excellent at characterization and scene-setting. I am also about to start (in, like, 5 minutes) Susan Collin's The Hunger Games, which everyone in my acquaintance has read and which I have been told I must read, so it is the book on my exercise machine's book rack, and I must get to it!

The movie is brilliant, but Swedish, and if your friend is not a fan of foreign films then I can see where it might not be enjoyed. There is an American version out there now, but I haven't seen it and the reviews haven't been as good.

Leslie Shimotakahara (lshimo) I just finished rereading The Sun Also Rises, which I've read so many times it's like having whiskey & soda with an old friend. I was blogging about my thoughts while reading (www.the-reading-list.com).... Later this week I may rent the film adaptation, "Fiesta." I'm curious about Ava Gardner as Brett Ashley.

Oh, yeah, remakes that come anywhere close to the quality of the original are rare. The Ring came close, but most are pretty bad.

message 2682: by Werner (new)

Werner Yesterday, having finished Eragon (which we thoroughly enjoyed), the first volume of Christopher Paolini's Inheritance fantasy series, my wife and I started the second series volume, Eldest. It's now our book for out-loud reading when we're riding in the car.

Bill | 1303 comments I'm working thru John Creasey's The Blight, which so far reminds me of the old Doc Savage type books. Very much pulp fiction, but still entertaining. I've just stted John Dunning's The Bookman's Promise and even though I've only read about 20 pages, it's already interesting. I have enjoyed the Cliff Janeway, ex cop - turned - bookseller books.

Hi Werner- I am facinated by your "our book for out-loud reading when we're riding in the car" sounds like a wonderful way to share reading with your wife- I would be interested if you would elaborate on that- who drives? who reads? Do you only read on long drives?

Werner Rick, to answer your questions, when we're together in the car, Barb drives and I read. She's a much better driver than I am, and she likes my reading style, since I try to use different voices for different characters, etc.; so that's a good division of labor for us. And we read anytime we ride (to go shopping, etc.), though of course we can get in the longest stretches of it on long trips. It's much like listening to an audio book in the car; I call it an "organically-powered audio book." :-)

NOW I'm on to something completely different - Angelology by Danielle Trussoni Angelology by Danielle Trussoni I'm liking this book so far - I've seen some negative reviews mentioning that there is too much information etc. but backstory and "information dump" doesn't bother me if I think it's interesting and in this case I do.

I just realized I've read several "elephant" and "angel" books in the past 12 months - I wonder if that means something?
