Book Quest Q&A

For this genre, does it have to be mystery thriller as one tag on the mpg? Or can mystery and thriller be separate tags for it to count for the bonus?

I didn't even notice the "Thriller" part of the MPG - I was going with mystery only, which is probably not correct😬

Separate tags (either/or/both) is fine!

1. Would you consider dating sites to be a type of social media site?
2. For the historical secrets task, does it need to be based on history or historical fiction, or would a hidden past also suffice?

1. Yes.
2. I'm not I entirely understand your question, but as long as the "hidden past" involves uncovering something historically significant (generally or individually) or tied to a broader historical context, I think it would be fine.

Sorry.. It's like someone has a really big secret and something happened that uncovered it.

I was thinking about this book for the historical secrets task. But I'm not sure if I can use this.

I'm inclined to say no, unless the secret is historical in nature.

For Theme Week: would an alien planet or their home "spaceship" qualify.
**Yes I realize this is a stretch, but it can't hurt to ask. :)

Ugh. I'm reading one for Uno and was hoping to substitute it out. Aliens are not my normal jam, but I'm listening to Hitchhiker's Guide and its great. I can always listen to the others in the series for Sci-Fi.
And Just cause I'm nosy....any idea when we will get the MPG for the next quarter? Having those in advance helped us plan some BR for future months. :)

Can we go for genres we don't read as often as others, even if we do actually read them, or do we have to sit that bonus out?

Accommodations for Omnilegent Readers
For participants who read widely and don’t necessarily avoid any genres, here are 3 accommodations to help you step outside your usual reading habits. Please note: You may only use one accommodation per month to ensure the challenge remains fresh and engaging!
1. Genre Frequency: Choose a genre you rarely read or a genre you really only read to complete a challenge.
(Example: If you read romance once or twice a year, this could be your genre swap!)
2. Subgenre Exploration: Choose a subgenre you haven’t tried before. I'll be lenient with this one, but think outside the box, and use Goodreads sometimes off-the-wall MPGs to your advantage.
(Example: If you read Horror but have never tried Bizarro Fiction, now’s your chance!)
3. Reader’s Choice with Justification: Choose any book you feel is outside your usual reading habits, as long as you can explain why it’s a stretch for you.
(Example: “I usually read fast-paced thrillers, so this slow-burn literary fiction novel is a big change for me!”)

Also, I would like to point out that our upcoming April BOMs, The Priory of the Orange Tree and Crier’s War, are perfect fits for these challenge tasks!
The Priory of the Orange Tree
This epic fantasy novel is packed with adventure and can fit multiple tasks:
Read a book set in an unexplored or remote location: The story takes place in a richly imagined world with unique kingdoms, hidden cities, and mysterious landscapes.
Read a book featuring ocean voyages or sailing adventures: As I understand it, there are sea voyages and nautical elements that play a key role in the story.
Read a quest-based story with clear missions or goals: The characters embark on epic quests to save their world, with clear missions driving the plot.
Read a survival story set in the wilderness: Some characters face survival challenges in dangerous, uncharted territories.
Crier’s War
This YA fantasy with a sapphic romance and political intrigue also fits several tasks:
Read a book set in an unexplored or remote location: The story is set in a beautifully crafted world with unique settings, including grand estates and mysterious landscapes.
Read a quest-based story with clear missions or goals: The protagonists are driven by clear goals, including rebellion, revenge, and self-discovery.
Read a book about exploring ancient ruins: While not the main focus, there are elements of exploring the past and uncovering secrets.
Read a survival story set in the wilderness: Some scenes involve survival and navigating dangerous environments.

I'll see if I have any unusual sub-genres in my tbr. Maybe the more obscure books have a higher chance of them!

They compete in "aerial battles" according to the blurb

And can time travel be in the sense the book goes back and fourth from say 60s to now? I am just trying to be inventive with this one.

specifically, I'm looking at a group that goes missing/is hurt

or running (when it's to save your life/mental health?)

YES, me too! I read almost 1000 books a year so there's not much that I don't read or haven't read.
Also, I rely almost 100% on the library and they don't always have available some of the sub-genres etc--or there's super long hold/ wait lists.
I'm probably going to have skip the quarterly bonuses this time around.

Alyana, you don't have to confirm every book with me, unless you have a specific question about its justification. Your books look fine to me at first glance.

Remembering Sarah
Or
Nobody But Us
Even If We Break
a survival story set in the wilderness.?
A Thousand Broken Pieces
Road trip?

Into the Blizzard is a true account of a ship that runs into a reef and calls out for help. 3 ships come and several of the people aboard those rescue ships die. Come to find out, the original ship was never really in danger. So what the captain said wasn’t true, but it wasn’t a deliberate lie (or was it?)
Would that count? :)
