This prompt was a no brainer for me. When I was a kid, I devoured every horse book I could find, and my favorites were Walter Farley's Black Stallion books. Historical fiction is my favorite genre, so again..no brainer. This was an awesome story, so well written. I loved how the "modern" segments were tied together, and the historical notes at the end.

BTW, yesterday (3/31) was my first day of full-time RETIREMENT! Lots more reading on the horizon.

This admirably robust translation by Anthea Bell is the first in the English language. There were 3,500,000 Jews in Poland before the Nazi occupation; after it there were 240,000. Wladyslaw Szpilman's extraordinary account of his own miraculous survival offers a voice across the years for the faceless millions who lost their lives. --David Vincent

This book was amazing. Originally published in 1946.

On a personal note, to those in the USA who are preaching Anti-Semitism, and compare our current leaders to Nazi's, read this book and be thankful for the country you live in and the freedom you enjoy. Grow up and get a life!

I will remove this if I have offended anyone...that was not my intent. Just venting.

Rating: 3 stars

From Goodreads:
War, earthquake, political guile, adultery, illegitimacy, lust, and murder--all the devices of gothic romance--play a role in this tale closely based on the lives of Charlestonians who lived these events over a century ago.

Based on true events. A good story but a bit repetitive at times.
