Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments That's totally fine Vi and Zuza, just make sure @everyone to update the spreadsheet with your finished books before the next round starts (roughly 43 hours from now; countdown in both our tracking and our official ss) so us captains have enough time to log them before the Round 1 tab gets locked by the mods - which I assume will be an hour after Round 2 starts like the last few times

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments Zuza wrote: "I hope to finish two more books before the end of this round. I took a day off tomorrow so hopefully there will be plenty of time to read."

Also, if you don't happen to finish your books this round we can always use them next round :)

message 103: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments aaaand another countdown to the end of Round 1 / start of Round 2 and the minis - https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Remember that books can be started before the next round.

When you get a chance please let us know once you're done with all the books you think you'll finish in round 1 (I am most likely done for this round).

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I've just added a finished book for letter O, and I've started another one that I should be able to finish for round 1.

message 105: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments I just finished a book and have two more to finish before the round ends. I've been slow, my books were meh :(

message 106: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Done with all my books. The rest will be for Round 2.

message 107: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Is it one book per bonus word ("coffee table/quilt", "piano/violin", "vinegar/lobster"), or do we get the 5 points every time a book has those words?

Every time!

message 109: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments ^ IF the book is used in the respective mini challenge!

- Administrative mini: coffee table/quilt
- Gardening mini: piano/violin
- Feeding the Family mini: vinegar/lobster

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments @Vi I see you've read 10 books since wheel started and with less than 21 hours to go this round I will just grab 7 (which is your individual cap) now for max points. Please make sure they're all on your wheel shelf. If you finish The Way of Kings (or anything else worth more points) before the round ends we can still switch it out for another one of your books until 1 hour after.

message 111: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments Finished my last book for this round.

Thanks Christina. I was late from work yesterday and I was just about to check the spreadsheet. I won't be finishing Way of Kings today but most likely for tomorrow. Since I have my laptop now, I will be more regular in updating the spreadsheet from next round onwards.

message 114: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I'll finish my O book before the deadline and that will be it. Was hoping to squeeze in another one but I think I'm too busy hanging out with my friend who's visiting this weekend

All books finished from now on are going to be used for Round 2.

message 119: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 339 comments Is the SS still being worked on for round 1? I want to take the books I read over my cap that weren't used for the round off my shelf so I can keep track of how many I have read for a round, if that makes sense.

RachelG. | 339 comments The book I just finished has 12 different food items from the mini and I am wondering if there is one item that might be harder to find and I should put the title there. It has potato, rice, bread, beef, lamb, chicken, fish, pumpkin, corn, tomato, lettuce and banana.

message 123: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments I can see pumpkin or lamb being more rare, but that's up to the captains.

message 124: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments A few things I just came across:

Cover color: When checking on TinEye, make sure you uncheck the "exclude background color from extracted colors" box!

Word in the text tasks: Please give us the page/percentage/location/chapter and a part of the sentence the word is being used in!

Clarification from the mods for the PRUNE task: "the word must be an entirely different word from the original, and from only one cut. Example: from GARDENING you can't make GARDEN (it's the same word) nor DEN (would need two cuts)"

Hmmmmm to me pumpkin, lamb, and corn seem to be the least common ones out of these

Yep for sure! I'm doing it for piano in Ansichten eines Clowns :)

The minis are for Round 2 to the end of the challenge.

message 130: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Question, would you prefer my book be used for an orange cover or for okra in the text? They're both tricky tasks but I can't decide which one is harder to find.

message 133: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I finished my tome - The Way of Kings yesterday. The pace picked up towards the end so I was alternating audio and kindle as I didn't want to put it down. It should definitely work with some of the mini-challenges. I will check and add it to the spreadsheet.

Taking a break today as I am recovering from finishing the book yesterday. The ending both was fantastic but also missed/disappointed me a little. A little difficult to find the next read to follow this...

message 134: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Ahhh Vi, that's making me so excited to start my reread soon. I have to finish a couple more books before I'll let myself get into it. Really hoping I can get through the whole thing in this round!

message 135: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Jessica, can you please add The Drowning Woman to your shelf? :)

The threads for November's BOM discussions are up!

2 Nov: The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst - thread

16 Nov: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie - thread

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Hercule Poirot, #1) by Agatha Christie

If you're planning on picking up these reads, feel free to volunteer to write DQs :) if you're intimidated by the prospect of doing that, don't be!! It might seem scary but it's always super fun - and we can always workshop the questions together as a team!

message 137: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments I was waiting for BOM threads to finally get created but wanted to give them another day lol. Sadly I've read the Poirot during Book Games so won't be able to contribute there, but I saved The Spellshop on everand when I first found out it won the poll. Fingers crossed it's any good!!

(And yes I've not been getting notifs AGAIN)

message 138: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments If anybody signs up for writing DQs for The Spellshop I'll happily be backup but other than that I can't commit to starting it this/next week sadly

message 139: by Jhmingos (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments So excited that an Agatha Christie book is a BOM. I'll definitely re-read that one. Not sure if I can get the Spellshop, but we'll see.

message 140: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 339 comments I just read that Agatha Christie book 2 months ago. Can I get participation points if I join in the discussion?

Unfortunately no :(

It was a fantastic read. And the best thing is with the latest book, I heard the first arc will be completed. The author is reliable. Unlike say, Rothfuss, where everybody has kind of given up on the third book. Such a pity as I've heard great reviews on the first two in the trilogy.

message 143: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments I can't get a copy of The Spellshop unfortunately :/

Yep so true! In Sanderson we trust... I've read Name of the Wind and I liked the first book but didn't like the second one much (if there's one thing I loathe it's faeries, and unfortunately that book was about them quite a bit)

And let's not even get started on Game of Thrones 😅

message 145: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments I might be able to get a copy for you Ashleigh, would you like it?

message 146: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments No it's fine, thanks anyway!

message 147: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments ‼️ There is going to be an additional BOM in November!

This will be The Secret History by Donna Tartt, starting on 22 November. The thread is here! Same rules as for usual BOMs, so a great opportunity to collect some bonus points 😉

message 148: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments That being said, I will not be participating in this one because I read The Secret History last year and actually kind of hated it (very unpopular opinion, I know lol) so I'm definitely not up for a reread 😅

message 149: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments Is it me or the BOMs here just simply hate me?? How come all the books chosen are not for me? lol

message 150: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Definitely not just you - I despair every month 😅 (and there's a reason I only participate during challenges)

I know I could solve this problem by nominating books and I do think about it every month but then... I have commitment issues anyway, I don't want to make others read something I don't even know I want to pick up at that specific time myself...
