Successful Negotiator
Suspenseful, thought-provoking, and action-packed with compelling characters
Book #1 in medieval saga " The King's greatest Enemy", inspired by a real historical event : Lord Roger Mortimer's rebellion to King Edward II and his favourite Hugh Despenser. In the Shadow of the Storm
by Anna BelfrageMy 4-star review here :

Here is my 4.32 rounded to 4 stars review of A Hired Kill by Steven Konkoly:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Thriller
Book 2 in the Garrett Mann series
Overall, this book was intense, suspenseful, action-packed and violent with compelling characters, high-stakes, and a story that is unsettling, gripping, and thought-provoking.
I feel that those who haven’t read book one will be somewhat lost, as no recap is provided.
My review for
The Girls of Good Fortune by Kristina McMorrishttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I listened to The Dry. It was great book with a strong sense of place and atmosphere which I love. Also a good mystery!
Here is my 4.48 rounded to 4 stars review of Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Romantic Suspense
What an opening sentence!
Overall, this a well-written, intriguing, and gripping novel with an action-packed show-down that has well-developed and compelling characters.
I'm starting the week with
What Comes Around, the 13th Zoe Chambers Mystery from Annette Dashofy. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
i just started Backman's "My Friends"
If you have never read him, please do. He is such a gifted writer. There are authors whose books we can't wait to read, but at the same time, we want to read them slowly or start them a little later to enjoy them, like the gifts they are. That's me with Backman's books.
Here is my 4.5 rounded to 5 star review of Burned Bridges by John Gilstrap:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Crime Thriller
Setting: West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle
First novel in a series featuring former FBI director Irene Rivers (She was a supporting character in the Jonathan Grave series).
Overall, this is a powerful, emotional, intense, and riveting novel with great characterization, a solid mystery,
I'm closing out the week with
Root of All Evil by Liz Milliron https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished The God of the Woods
by Liz Moore. I gave this 5 stars. It is excellent. Lots of twist and turns, dysfunctional family. Let in Adirondack summer camp in 1975. Characters are very interesting.
Finished Death in Venice by Thomas Mann this week, a classic group read. Though I had to read this for a Euro Fiction course in college, I remembered nothing about it except that I didn’t like it. While I did amend my previous rating from a two to three stars, it’s still not a top book of the year for me.
I loved this clean romance, the plot on the back cover could sound dull and frivolous, but it's not. On the contrary it's a very sweet story.A quick and light read but also very engaging and with deep feelings.
Unrequited
by Martha Keyes. Here is my 5-star review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished Murder in Westminster
by Vanessa Riley. It was just okay for me. Nothing particular interesting in this novel. Set in 1805 London.
Here is my 4.55 rounded to 5 stars review of A Dead Draw by Robert Dugoni:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police Procedural / Crime Novel
11th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series
Suspenseful
Well-developed and compelling characters
Occasionally pulls on the heart strings
Plenty of action
I just finished Woman in the Water by Elle Gray. It's the third book in the Pax Arrington mystery series. I've really enjoyed all three books. There's only one left and then things move to a spinoff series. I love her writing so I'm looking forward to the next Arrington book, and then checking out the spinoff.
I made it back to the Bosch novels with
Two Kinds of Truth by Michael Connelly https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
There are some novels that aren't cozy mysteries, but they have cozy mystery elements in them: i.e. Armistead Maupin's books. JoeCosentino.weebly.com

I'm reading all of his books, so the Bosch universe. I'd actually started with the Lincoln Lawyer books, then went back to the beginning and reread the LL books when I got to them in order. I'm, what, about 10 books away from being caught up. Of course, with him releasing two books this year, I need to pick up the pace if I'm going to get caught up.
Here is my 3.73 rounded to 4 stars review of Chasing Shadows by Robert Bryndza:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police procedural / crime novel
9th book in the Erica Foster series
Gripping, emotional, and complex
Well-developed and compelling characters
Plenty of action
Chilling prologue
The storyline goes back and forth in time frequently which disrupted the flow and pacing for me.
Here is my 4.02 rounded to 4 stars review of Stuart Woods' Finders Keepers by Brett Battles:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Action Thriller
66th book in the Stone Barrington series
Comfort reading
In this adventure and crime novel, readers quickly learn the antagonists, but it’s the journey that Stone and his team take that kept me engaged.
Tense, clever, action-filled, well-developed characters
The Frozen River
by Ariel LawhonHere is my 2-star review, where I explain why I didn't like it ( despite many others did ):

Finished out the month with three non-cozies:
* The Court of the Stone Children by Eleanor Cameron, which won the National Book Award for Children in 1974. I first read this when I was about 12, so all I remembered about it was that it had something to do with a courtyard where there were statues of children. As it turned out, it fit the museum prompt perfectly.
* Sophie Washington: Treasure Beach by Tonya Duncan Ellis, a fun middle grade book to kick off meteorological summer.
* Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, another reread.

Here is my 3.47 rounded to 3 stars review of Hard Lights by J.B. Turner:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Crime Novel
More of an investigation than a thriller, which is a departure for this series
14th book in the Jon Reznick series
Compelling, Atmospheric, Slow pacing in the first half or so of the book
My review of
The Cafe by the Sea by Jenny Colgan:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
First time reading her. Ultimately this one was just OK for me, but I now see some reviews recommending starting with a different series so I may give her another shot.
