My experiences in multiracial, developmental psychology provided ample fodder for the story of Mattie and Lisbeth. I was the founder and director of Woolsey Children's School where I had first hand experience loving children that were not my own. There are scenes in the book that were largely influenced interactions I had with children from Woolsey. As a birth doula I have the privilege to witness the intensity and joy of childbirth. Hello Anita,

Thanks for letting me know that you loved Yellow Crocus and for your question.

I've just finished writing my second novel, Living Right. It should be out in the spring. Once I'm done with that, I'll be starting a sequel to Yellow Crocus. I'm getting very excited to dig into Lisbeth and Mattie's life after the Civil War.

Best wishes for the New Year for you and yours,

Laila(less)
Laila Ibrahim Hi Toni,

I'm pretty confident it will be out by April 15th. I just got the cover which is very exciting. I'll be doing books giveaways on Goodreads.

We talk about coming out as if it’s something you only do once.  In my experience it’s an ongoing part of life. Sometimes it’s easy, and other times it makes my stomach flutter.

I first came out as a lesbian 30 years ago when I was still in college.  Initially I was very careful about whom I shared this tender information with.  In 1985 being gay felt both like being part of a special club and l... Read more of this blog post »

“Focus on bearing, and beauty will follow. Your looks will not remain with you for life. But your bearing will go with you to the grave.”
Laila Ibrahim, Yellow Crocus

“Do you care for any contemporary authors?” Matthew inquired. “I adore Jane Austen.” Matthew nodded. “I find her portrait of British society so accurate and yet so dreadful.” “I agree. It must be awful to be so bound by what society expects,” Lisbeth answered. “I am so glad to have been born in America, where one has freedom.”

“But I know a good man make life more sweet. Someone to hold you and love you, someone to share your dreams with, someone kind and thoughtful. A good man’s a treasure.”

Laila Ibrahim Hi Anita!

Thanks for letting me know that you're going to preorder it. I just decided I'm going to as well--so I can scream in delight when it pops up on my Kindle. :)

Let me know what you think of it. It's not nearly as intimate as Yellow Crocus, but I hope it is just as compelling and powerful.

Best wishes,

Laila

Anita Hi Laila,

I am so excited to read that your new book 'Mustard Seed' will be out shortly. I am going to pre-order it from amazon.com.
Can't wait to read it. I need to discover what happened to Lisbeth and Mattie. :)

Anita.
