The Picture Bride by Lee Geum-yi
Great start, okay end. But contains quite a lot of interesting historical information about Koreans in Hawaii.

A Dark and Secret Magic by Wallis Kinney
Mine is an outlier review for this fantasy-romance. It had too much romance and too little fantasy for my liking.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Heat Wave by Penelope Lively. Another great novel by this author. I love the way she writes. She packs a powerful punch but she does it with such subtlety. The narrative unfolds in dual time frames and is about a mother and daughter and their adulterous husbands.

Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell
Not for everyone, and definitely not my kind of book either. But I still ended up liking this monster romance to a great extent. Go figure!

The Envelopes by Hasu August
Great premise but needed better structuring. Still, a decent option showing an unexplored side of contemporary China.

Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales (Emily Wilde, #3) by Heather Fawcett
I expected far more from this final installment of the Emily Wilde trilogy. It was good, but not in the league of the earlier two books.

The Language of Love and Other Stories by Nancy Christie
The cover might be a bit drab, but the stories in the "love" collection hold much magic. A great option for short story readers.

Poor Girls by Clare Whitfield
A great historical crime fiction based on an actual gang of female thieves. Had the final quarter been better, this would have rated even higher for me.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Betty Boo by Claudia Piñeiro; translated by Miranda France.
It's more than just a crime novel. Fast-paced, entertaining, and with great characterization.
