The 1930s are often referred to as the golden age of aviation. Metal started to replace wood has the material of choice. Help Thread
ON Apr 30, 1938 Warner Bros.' "wascally wabbit" Bugs Bunny first appeared on screen in the theatrical short "Porky's Hare Hunt," directed by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway. Chuck Jones and Tex Avery further developed him into the character we know now—in such cartoons as "A Wild Hare" (1940), in which Bugs asks, "What's up, Doc?" for the first time and first kisses perennial foe Elmer Fudd. The rabbit's noisy carrot munching was based on Clark Gable's carrot chewing in the film It Happened One Night (1934).

15.8 - The Trail of Tears
Help Thread
In U.S. history, the Trail of Tears was the forced relocation that began in 1830 of Eastern Woodlands Indians of the Southeast region of the United States (including Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole, among other nations) to Indian Territory west of the Mississippi River. Estimates based on tribal and military records suggest that approximately 100,000 indigenous people were forced from their homes during that period and that more than 15,000 died during the journey west.

Read a book written by an AUTHOR that has been shelved as an Indigenous Author from the first 25 pages of this list: Indigenous Author
Books are not limited to the book on the list; any book by the author may be used. One qualifying author in a book with multiple authors would work.
Required: State the page where the author is found.

15.9 - The Joy of Cooking
Help Thread
America's favorite all-purpose cookbook, The Joy of Cooking was self-published on Nov 30, 1931 by Irma Rombauer (1877–1962). Rombauer was a comforting voice for cooks during the Depression, and the book grew into an institution. The first commercial edition of the book appeared in 1936, and it offered a revolutionary "action format" (chronologically ordered ingredients followed by instructions) now commonplace in cookbooks.

Read a NONFICTION book with the main page genre Food, Cooking or Food and Drink

20 Point Tasks

20.1 - Most Improved - Barbara ★'s Task: The Wizard of Oz
Help Thread
The Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 and was adapted for the big screen in 1939 and television in 1956. The Wizard of Oz was my first encounter with paranormal beings and I've been hooked ever since. I love shifters, witches, dragons, fairies, elves and all things paranormal.

Choose one option and read a book that is at least 200 pages.
Required:
State the option.

Option 1: The main character is Dorothy Gale. Read a book with an author or MC whose first name is Dorothy. If you choose character, the GR description must show main character's name is Dorothy.

Option 2: I loved the beauty of the poppy fields. In honor of spring, read a book with flowers on the cover, not just a single flower.
Acceptable Kiss and Tell (Sisterhood, #23) by Fern Michaels Descendant of the Crane by Joan He Sweetness and Light (Sweet Cove #5) by J.A. Whiting
Required: Post the Cover

Option 3: The depiction of Emerald City was stunning. Read a book with a cover that is at least 50% green using Tineye. https://labs.tineye.com/color/
Complete directions for using Tineye can be found here: How Do I Use Tineye?
Required: Post the cover.

Option 4: Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard were well-developed characters and the actors chosen to portray them were spot-on. Read a book with WITCH or WIZARD in the title, not the subtitle. Plurals and possessives are acceptable.

Option 5: Read a book with MPG paranormal.

20.2 - Rookie at the Top - Nancy J's Task: Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
Help Thread
When I taught college, my favorite course was Change Management. Change is accelerating. We’ve all experienced it. We can’t avoid it, so we might as well learn how to adapt, change ourselves, and try to influence positive change where we can. My reading tastes and habits have changed along with all the other changes in my life, and reading has been a real solace. Six years ago I never even heard of reading challenges, and now here I am attempting the most challenging one I've seen yet!

Read one book, from one of the options below.
Required: State the option you used.

Option 1. CHANGE
My course focused on organization change, but the concepts apply to personal change, groups, communities, social change, and activism. I love when I discover the concepts in different genres, e.g. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, How High We Go in the Dark, Parable of the Sower, and Paradise Falls: The True Story of an Environmental Catastrophe.

A. Read a book about change from the first 25 pages of this list: Change
Required: State the page.
OR
B. Read a book with the word “Change” in the title or subtitle. Variations of the word are acceptable if they retain the meaning. Changes, Changing, and Changed are fine, exchange and changeling do not work.

Option 2. CULTURAL
For many years in my life, I only had the time to read for work and school. Fiction was for summer vacations and long plane rides. Since I retired, my reading habits and interests seem to be changing and expanding every year, thanks in good part to Goodreads groups. I especially liked reading books about other countries, cultures, and subcultures, e.g. Small Things Like These, Afterlives, Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China, and The Round House.

Read a cultural book from the first 25 pages of this list: Cultural
Required: State the page.

Option 3. BEAUTIFUL PROSE
I love a good plot, but while reading books like Their Eyes Were Watching God, I started paying more attention to the beautiful writing. It felt like a small part of my brain was waking up, and I wanted more. Station Eleven, Circe, and What the Wind Knows had the same effect.

A. Read a book with beautiful prose from the first 25 pages of this list: Beautiful Prose
Required: State the page.
OR
B. Read a book with MPG Literary Fiction, no variations.

20.3 - Best Review - Katy's Task: On Trend
Help Thread
When I visit bookstores, I'm always fascinated to see trends come and go. For this task, pick a trend and read a book that fits the trend:
Required: State the option.

1. The "book blob" -- Have you noticed the countless covers that are just splashes of abstract color blobs? For this trend, read a book from this list Colorful Blob Book Covers
Required: State the page.

2. The Mad Lib Title - Read a book with a title that fits this pattern:
The ___ (Adjective/s) ___ (noun) of ___ (proper name). Subtitles are excluded.
Examples - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,
The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle,
The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane,
The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester,
The 22 Murders of Madison May

3. Names and Sentences - Read a book with a title that consists of a complete sentence that includes a proper noun. A complete sentence includes a subject and an action. A proper noun is a name used for an individual person, place, or organization. Imperative and interrogative sentences that include a proper noun work. Subtitles are excluded.
Examples: Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine,
Delilah Green Doesn't Care,
They Call Me Alexandra Gastone,
Get a Life, Chloe Brown,
Where'd You Go, Bernadette

4. Direct Address - Read a book that uses "you" or "your" in the title. The word must match exactly- no variations.
Examples: Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide,
Your Driver Is Waiting,
I Have Some Questions for You,
You Have a Friend in 10A: Stories,
Work Won't Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone

20.4 - Golden Oldies - Maria Jo's Task: The Queen of Crime
Help Thread
One of my favorite authors is Agatha Christie, and reading her books is often the reason I am able to claim Golden Oldies tickets! This task is in honor of the “Queen of Crime.”

Choose one option.
Required: State the option.

1. Read a book by Agatha Christie or her pseudonym, Mary Westmacott, that was first published before 1950. (Most of her books fit this option, but not all!)

2. Agatha Christie famously disappeared when her husband, Archie, asked for a divorce. She reappeared 10 days later, claiming she did not know what had happened. The mystery of where she was and what she was doing during this time has never been solved. Recently, two novels have been published imagining where Christie was: The Mystery of Mrs. Christie and The Christie Affair.
Read a book with a major plot arc/subject where someone is missing or disappears mysteriously, such as a kidnapping or suspected crime, runaway, or supernatural/dystopian event. This list may help: Missing Persons.
Required: If the disappearance is not evident in the book's description, include a reference link.

3. Agatha Christie’s most widely read book, And Then There Were None, has over 1 million ratings on Goodreads.
Read a book that has over 1 million ratings. This list may help: One Million Ratings

4. There are so many fun facts about Agatha Christie, but this one is a little more obscure. In the 1960s, the Roman Catholic Church was rewriting their liturgy. Many Catholics in England preferred the old liturgy, and sent a request to the pope at the time, Paul VI, to request that the older style could be used in some places. Many prominent non-Catholics also signed the request, including Agatha Christie. The legend goes that when Pope Paul VI saw Agatha Christie’s signature, he said, “Ah, Agatha Christie,” and so decided to grant the request. This special permission given to Catholics in England and Wales is therefore known as the Agatha Christie Indult.
Read a book with MPG “Religion”, “Faith”, or “Spirituality”.

20.5 - Bigger is Better - Kristina Simon's task: Sail Away
Help Thread
As many of you know, I stepped down from moderating the SRC to fulfill a lifetime dream of living and cruising aboard a sailboat. A huge thank you to DLMRose and Sandy for putting up with me for many, many years and a hearty welcome to the new moderating team. You rock!! I'm so happy you're here.

This is a one book task. Choose 1 option from the options below and read 1 book.

Required: State the option you used when you post.

Option 1: SO Much Stuff!
Since I've been gone, hubby and I have been busy selling excess boats/cars/you-name-it and getting rid of all our things. It's amazing the amount of stuff that accumulates after 10 years in a house!
Read a book written by an author whose initials (all of them) can be found in DECLUTTER. Multiple authors will work as long as all author's initials can be found in the target word. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.

Option 2: SALE to SAIL
The house is on the market. So we're waiting for a SALE so we can SAIL away.
Read a book with a homonym found on this list in TITLE (not subtitle) - https://www.enchantedlearning.com/eng...
Any word on the list works. Words must match exactly.
Required: State the word when you post.

Option 3: Cats Away
In the meantime, I'm living vicariously through my favorite YouTube channels. Much like hubby and I, the couple on the sailing catamaran Cats Away travel with 2 cats aboard. Read a book with a domestic cat (a pet, not a lion, tiger, or other big cat) on the cover. The entire cat need not be visible, but there must be enough of it to tell its a cat (not just whiskers, claws, footprints, or eyes, for example). Stylized is fine, as long as its obviously a cat. Examples:
Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins The Dalai Lama's Cat (The Dalai Lama's Cat, #1) by David Michie The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern (Cat Who..., #2) by Lilian Jackson Braun Wish You Were Here (Mrs. Murphy, #1) by Rita Mae Brown Before the Coffee Gets Cold (Before the Coffee Gets Cold, #1) by Toshikazu Kawaguchi If It Bleeds by Stephen King
Required: Include the cover in your post.

20 Point Tasks

20.6 - It's A Fact- Angela IL's Task: Things I Love in Books!!
Help Thread
I recently watched a couple of Booktube videos where creators talk about things they love in books (i.e. themes/ keywords, tropes). I love creating lists, so I wrote down about things I love in books, which included time travel, mixed media, dysfunctional family dynamics, mental health representation, age gap/ forbidden romance, social commentary, second chance romance, sliding doors, and therapist/ counselor as main character.
I decided to create my task with three of these themes in mind.

The book must be a minimum of 300 pages.
No books with the MPG children or kids may be used.

Read a book that can be found on the first 25 pages of one of these lists below.
Required: State which list you used and the page number of the list on which the book is found.

Option A: Mixed Media

I will instantly add a book to my TBR if I hear that there is mixed media in it (letters, diary entries, podcast, text/emails, newspaper articles, interviews). Some of my favorites include: Sadie, The Last Housewife, and Love and Other Words.

Option B: Social Commentary

I really enjoy social commentary in books, whether it is subtle or obvious. I enjoy learning and reflecting on topics or issues I never gave much thought to become open to new ideas. Some of my favorites include: Reprieve, Such a Fun Age, and Kindred.

Option C: Mental Health

As a sufferer of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, panic attacks, and depression, I like to see representation in books of other individuals who face these issues on a daily basis too. Some of my favorites include: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone , Everything I Never Told You, and The Brown Sisters series by Talia Hibbert.

20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter- Jen B's Task: Me Time
Help Thread
This year has been pretty rough on my family so far. In all the chaos of taking care of others, I've been reminded of the importance of also taking care of yourself. So, carving out some "Me Time" in each day has become incredibly important. Obviously, I love to read, but I have a few other "Me Time" pastimes, too. These are a few of my favorites.

Choose 1 option.
Required: State the option.

Option 1: Peloton
I'm a huge fan of my Peloton. Even if I only do a 20-minute workout, some type of movement in my day is a must! Leaderboard hashtags are a fun way to connect with other Peloton users and share love for favorite instructors. Some of mine are:
#BYOE,
#CalliesKillaCrew,
#WeRide4Leanne, and
#RKSolidCrew
Choose ONE hashtag and read a book by an author whose initials (all of them) can be found in that hashtag.
Required: State the hashtag.

Option 2: Paint-by-Numbers
I've always loved art, but I've mostly only looked at it rather than created it myself. But, lately, I've developed a relaxing evening ritual of making a cup of tea, listening to an audiobook, and working on a paint-by-numbers painting.
Read a book that meets SRC rules from the first 25 pages of this list: Best Book Cover Art
Required: State the page.

Option 3: Cooking
Being in the kitchen has always been fun, but after my son's recent T1D diagnosis, I have been spending time experimenting with new, low-carb recipes that the whole family can enjoy.
Read a book (fiction or non-fiction) with an MPG of Food or Food and Drink
These lists may help (but you are not required to read a book from the list)
Food Related Non-Fiction
Food-Related Fiction

20.8 - Nickels & Dimes - Jen K's Task: Egyptian Spring
Help Thread
My first day of March was spent arriving in Cairo where I will be working for the next month. It is my first time to visit and while it will be mostly work, I do hope to do a bit of exploring.

This is a one book task. Read a book of at least 200 pages that satisfies one of the following three options.

Required: State the option you used.

Option 1: The Nile. The river is beautiful and central to the city and I’m excited to watch the sunset on a felucca tomorrow. Read a book were all the letters in “NILE” can be found in the title. The letters do not need to be intact or consecutive. Subtitles are excluded.

Option 2: The Pyramids. I cannot leave without visiting the pyramids. As a math teacher, I’ve often used the pyramids as a real-life example of a 3 dimensional shape. The base is a polygon (flat with straight edges) and all other faces are triangles which means no curves!
Read a book written by a single author whose initials (all initials) are made of letters without curves. Letters may be reused, as in LL, Laura Lippman

Letters without curves for this task include: A, E, F, H, I, K, L, M, N, T, V, W, X, Y and Z.

Option 3: Religion. Ramadan will start at the end of my trip and next month will celebrate both Coptic Easter and Eid al-Fitr which are the major two holidays in Egypt. The market is already full of colorful lanterns to ready for Ramadan.
Read a book with a word in the title or subtitle of at least 4 letters/characters that can be made using only the letters found in either "Coptic Easter" or "Eid al-Fitr".
ex. Eid al-Fitr, fire: Heir of Fire
Coptic Easter, escape: The Escape Room

Required: State the holiday chosen and the word.

20.9 - Moderator's Pet - Florence's Task: Busy Bee
Help Thread
I almost didn't take part in this season's reading challenge as I'm going to have a LOT on my plate over the coming months, but then I had to opportunity to host moderator's pet so couldn't say no. However I suspect this season will be my lowest scoring yet! With that in mind here is my list of lovely and overwhelming things keeping me away from my TBR pile.
Pick one option.
Required: State the option.
Books with an mpg of sequential art, graphic novels etc. are allowed for this task.

Option A: MOVING HOUSE
My partner and I are finally (hopefully!) able to buy our first home together! Which is one part exciting and two parts terrifying.
Wish me luck by reading a book from this list of one of my all time favourite tropes: Books With A House As A Character.
Required: State the page of the list your book appears on.

Option B: DECLUTTERING
We'll be moving from a large rented flat to somewhere probably much smaller so I've been on a MAJOR decluttering spree. Five bags full of books went to the charity shop!
Read a book with a 5 or "five" in the page number, title, or subtitle. Plurals, possessives, hyphenated words, larger numbers (such as 365) and compound words that preserve the meaning are allowed. Ordinals are not.
ex. Five Ways to Fall, Slaughterhouse-Five, Fivefold, Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen

Option C: NIECE
The thing I suspect will keep me BUSIEST is the imminent arrival of my first niece. I have MANY nephews but this is the first girl of the new generation! My brother was terrified at the idea of raising a girl so he got lots of books on feminism for Christmas! Welcome my niece into the world by reading a book that meets SRC rules from one of these lists:
Books Every Girl Should Read
Best Feminist Books
Required: State which list you are using and which page your book appears on.

25 Point Tasks

25.1 - Tien’s Task: Adulting Sux
Help Thread
It's been a crazy month because the school year has just begun for us in AU. On top of that, we've got all sorts of appointments and extra curricular activities to go to as well.

Choose two different options and read one book for each option.
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the options you used.

One graphic novel is allowed.

1. Book buying ban: because all the money has gone to orthodontists & podiatrists.
Read a book with teeth (human or animal) or bare human feet (no shoes or sandals) on the cover (single tooth/bare foot allowed)
Required: Post the cover.
ex. teeth: When Dimple Met Rishi (Dimple and Rishi, #1) by Sandhya Menon Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Jaws (Jaws, #1) by Peter Benchley
bare feet: Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach The Lost Saint (The Dark Divine, #2) by Bree Despain

2. Chauffeur: non-stop driving the kids around the place; mostly for sports.
Read a book with MPG of Sports

3. Laundry: Never Ending Laundry!!
Read a book with a word in title that is an item of clothing from this list: https://www.enchantedlearning.com/wor...
The word must match exactly ("school uniform" not "school") . Subtitles are excluded. Any term on the list may be used, such as: outfit, umbrella, zipper, velcro.
Required: State the word/phrase.

25.2 - Robin P's Task: An Ode to Chocolate
Help Thread
I have always loved chocolate, though my tastes are rather plebeian. Occasionally, I sample a handmade boutique truffle with an unusual flavor like lavender or chili, and I think, “What a waste of good chocolate!”

Choose two different options and read a book from each option
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the options used.

1. 3 Musketeers: One of my favorite chocolate bars is 3 Musketeers. I feel like the other bars, such as Snickers, just interfere with my enjoyment of the yummy chocolate nougat in the center.
Read a book with a title of exactly 3 words. Subtitles should be ignored.

2. M & M: Another perennial favorite is M & M’s. (And it has nothing to do with the gender or attire of the mascots!)
Read a book whose author’s full name (as listed on Goodreads) has exactly 2 M’s in it.
Acceptable: Mary McCarthy, Emma Straub Not acceptable: Mimi Matthews

3. Forrest Gump’s mother famously said “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.” The idea is that life contains surprises.
Read a book from this list of Twist Ending Books:
Required: State the page where the book is found.

25.3 - Chris MD's Task: 1930s Lit and Lists
Help Thread
One of the things I really enjoyed about the Winter challenge was all the books I read either from the 1920s or set during the 1920s. That got me thinking about books from and about the 1930s. Despite (or maybe because of) the Great Depression, it was an amazing decade for literature, and many of the works are still popular today. I also really enjoy Goodreads’ list feature because it gives me an opportunity to “browse” by different categories. So I’m combining these two things in this task.

Read two books from two different options.
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the options you used.

Option 1: Best Books of the 1930s - There are so many good books to choose from.
Read a book from the the list Best Books of the Decade: 1930s
Be careful. There are a number of children’s books here, so be sure the book meets other SRC requirements.
REQUIRED: State the page number of the list on which your book was found.

Option 2: It’s Almost Like Being There -
Read a book set more than 75% during the 1930s.
Here’s a list to help you with your search: Best 1930s Historical Fiction, but your book does not need to be from this list.
REQUIRED: It the 1930s setting is not evident on the book's main page, include a reference when you post.

Option 3. The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett (first published 1930) – The stuff that dreams are made of. This classic gave us the hard-boiled gumshoe Sam Space, quite different from detectives like Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot.
Read a book from the list: Best Hardboiled and Noir Fiction.
REQUIRED: State the page number of the list on which your book was found.

Option 4: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley (first published 1932) - Modern library rated this book number 5 on its list of 100 Best English-Language Novels of the 20th Century. It has also been listed by the American Library Association as being among the 100 most challenged books for each decade from 1990 through 2020.
Read a book from the Best Banned Censored and Challenged Books list.
REQUIRED: State the page number of the list on which your book was found.

Option 5. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston (first published 1937) – Of the three books listed here, this is my favorite, and it has one of my favorite opening lines: "Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board." Hurston was a key literary figure in the Harlem Renaissance.
Read a book from The Harlem Renaissance list.
REQUIRED: State the page number of the list on which your book was found.

25 Point Tasks

25.4 - Delicious Dee's Task: Ted Lasso!
Help Thread
It was recently announced that season 3 of Ted Lasso would premiere on March 15, 2023. To say i’m excited is, likely, understating my excitement (mostly because of how season 2 ended). So let’s BELIEVE and celebrate in the return of Ted Lasso.

For this task you will flip ONE coin (https://flipacoin.fun/)
HEADS - Use Season 1.
TAILS - Use Season 2.

Alternately, if you don’t want to use season 1 or 2, you may use Option 3.

No Books with the genre Childrens or Kids may be used.

REQUIRED: State the option and/or the result of your coin flip

Option 1- HEADS - SEASON ONE
Season 1 sees Ted Lasso (Jason Sudakeis) hired by Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) to be head coach of AFC Richmond.

For this option, at least one book, must be #1 in a series of at least 3 published books. The series name and number must be indicated in the GR title listing in grayscale italics above the title.

Book 1 – Read a book where a single author shares a name with one of the actors who appear in the MAIN cast of Ted Lasso.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Las...
Names must match exactly but may be in any position.
Required: State the actor's name.
i.e. Infinite (first in series, JEREMY shares name with Jeremy Swift)

Book 2 – Read a book where a word from one of the SEASON ONE episode title names appears in the book title. The word must be at least four letters and must match exactly. Subtitles are excluded.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Las...
Required:: State the episode name
i.e.Children of Blood and Bone– Children for Episode 4 - "For the Children"

OPTION TWO - TAILS – SEASON TWO
Season 2 opens halfway through AFC Richmond’s season where the team is defying all odds and predictions in their performance.

For this option, at least one book, must be #2 in a series of at least 3 published books. The series name and number must be indicated in the GR title listing in grayscale italics above the title.

Book 1 – Read a book where a single author shares the name with one the main CHARACTERS in Ted Lasso.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Las...
Required: State the character name.
i.e. Steel Princess by Rina Kent for Roy Kent, #2 in series

Book 2 – Read a book where a word from one of the SEASON TWO episode title names appears in the book title. The word must be at least four letters and must match exactly. Subtitles are excluded.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Las...
Required: State the episode name.
i.e. Christmas Carol Murder – CAROL for episode 4 - "Carol of the Bells"

OPTION 3 - SEASON THREE
Alternately, if you don’t want to flip a coin, you may read ONE book of at least 600 pages that is #3 in a series where either
A. ALL the letters BELIEVE appear in the title/subtitle, or
B. ALL the author's initials can be found in TEDLASSO
The series name and number must be indicated in the GR title listing in grayscale italics above the title.
The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch – SL found in TEDLASSO, #3 in series and is 600+pgs

25.5 - MEGSCL's Task: Between the Lines
Help Thread
Firstly, grab the last book you finished reading (any format, doesn't matter if it was for SRC or even if it's eligible). And I mean the last book as of NOW, the first time you read this task.
Take that book and note down the first sentence of text in the story, and the last sentence of text. Do count: prologue, preface, introduction, epilogue. Don't count: index, about the author, dedications, opening quotes/poems, chapter titles, acknowledgements, previews of other books.
If for some reason you can't access the last book you finished (already returned to library, can't transcribe audio, etc) use my example below, The 52-Storey Treehouse.

Book 1: Read a book with a title that has a word matching a word* from the first sentence* of text. Subtitles are excluded.
Book 2: Read a book with a title that has a word matching a word* from the last sentence* of text. Subtitles are excluded.
*Words must match exactly and be at least 3 letters long, excluding "and" and "the". *If your sentence doesn't have at least 3 words that are eligible, you can add the next/previous sentence until you get at least 3 words to choose from.
Required: State the last book you read (or if you use my example) and the first and last sentences.

For example, I just finished reading The 52-Storey Treehouse
The first sentence is: Hi, my name is Andy. This is my friend Terry. (used two sentences as the first only has 2 eligible words)
The last sentence is: 'One 65-storey treehouse with a pet-grooming salon and a birthday room coming right up!' I say.
Book 1: Imaginary Friend (friend) or Before You Knew My Name (name)
Book 2: Birthday Girl (birthday) or Monday's Not Coming (coming)

30.4 - TessaVanessa’s Task: New York Times Best Seller List
Help Thread
The first New York Times best seller list was originally published on October 12, 1931. It was made up of five fiction and four non-fiction books for New York City only. In November 1931, the list included eight separate cities and was later expanded to fourteen cities in the 1940s. Where the New York Times published lists for multiple cities, our site uses New York City only.

The first national list was published on September 9, 1945 in The New York Times Book Review and was compiled according to reports from leading booksellers in 22 cities. This methodology has remained essentially the same to this day, although the exact process is a trade secret. Since early lists were published on Mondays with Sunday publication beginning on November 28, 1943, you will see the dates switch from Saturdays to Sundays at that point in time.

This is a two book task.
You will be using this website to determine what books you read: http://www.hawes.com/pastlist.htm

Book 1: Go to the year** you were born and month you were born. You may use any of the 4 or 5 weeks in your month*.
Using the Fiction list, read a fiction book from one of the lists.
*You may request a random week from your birth year by asking in the help thread. Count the year's weeks to reach the generated random week number.
**If you prefer to keep your year date private, use April 1965.
Required: Post the year and date of the week you are using.

Book 2: Go to the year* you were born. Using the Non-fiction list, read a non-fiction book from any list that year.
*If you prefer to keep your year date private, use 1965.
Required: State the week you are using.

30.7 - Chandni's Task: Momentous Places
Help Thread
Even though I've been a part of this group for at least 7 years, this is the first time I've ever completed a challenge. I think that's a very momentous milestone for me! I started thinking about the last significant milestone in my life and I realized that I couldn't choose.

I've recently moved to the fourth country I've ever lived in, so in honor of the places I've lived and the memories I've made in each of them, here are my momentous places.

For this task you will need to read 2 books and choose two different options. The combined page total must be greater than 600 pages.

REQUIRED: In your post, state the options you used.
For all 4 options, if the setting of the book is not clear from the Goodreads page, please provide a source for the setting. If the author page does not show the country they were born in, please provide a source for their place of birth.

Option 1: I was born in Mumbai, India. Being born is a momentous occasion right?

For this option, read a book that is set at least 80% in India, or the author was born in India.

Option 2: When I was 3, my family moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I made my first real friends in Dubai and I broke the only bone I've ever broken by falling off a jungle gym.

For this option, read a book that is set at least 80% in the United Arab Emirates, or the author was born in the UAE.

Option 3: When I was 6, my family moved to Vancouver, Canada. Every significant moment I can think of happened in Vancouver. I graduated from high school and university, made lifelong friends, and experienced immense joy along with immense sadness. My immediate family all still live there and Vancouver will always hold a special place for me. I'll always be a Canadian at heart.

For this option, read a book that is set at least 80% in Canada, or the author was born in Canada.

Option 4: I won't get too mushy here, but my partner is a wonderful and supportive man. We met as children and stayed in touch (on and off) through e-mails and instant messaging for nearly 20 years because he's British. We reconnected as adults and a few years ago, I moved to the UK to be with him. This is my most momentous relationship and it certainly did take some work!

For this option, read a book that is set at least 80% in the United Kingdom, or the author was born in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

30.8 - Kaora's Task: Chicken Katsu

Option 1. Shiba Inu means "Brushwood Dog", as it is used to flush game. Read a book that has all the letters SHIBA in the title and/or subtitle.

30.9 - Amy FL's Task: Farewell to My Love
Help Thread
On February 5, my husband, Charlie, passed away after suffering with Parkinson’s disease for the past 18 years. It was a long, arduous battle but he is now at peace. The last month of his life was especially rough, but there were some amazing hospice nurses who made things more bearable.

Select two options and read a book for each one. The combined total pages must be 501 or greater. No childrens or kids books allowed.
Required: State the options.

Option 1: Nurse Micheline and aide Laneeka were so kind and supportive. They are what all hospice nurses should aspire to.

Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in
MICHELINE OR LANEEKA (separately not combined). All initials count.

Option 2: We were married for 37 years, so for this option, read a book with a 3 and 7 in the page count.

Option 3: We used to listen to audiobooks together which was a big help in having me complete the SRC the past few years. The last book we finished on January 28 was The Dog I Loved. We especially enjoyed stories about dogs and my two (Rocky and Bandit) provide so much love to help me get through the tough times.

Read a book with a domestic dog on the cover.
Required: Post the cover.

Option 4: I sang a song to Charlie a few days before he passed to express my feelings. I made it through the first two verses, but then I turned it over to Spotify and the real artist, Taylor Dayne.

The word must match exactly.
