Near the start of the 12th book now... not much to say, so far... another one linked to Rourke (aren't they all)... but this one a bit more directly...

Yes! I love the audiobooks so much I just never read the actual books anymore.
Encore in Death comes out on the 7th!!
Timelord Iain wrote: "Didn't the details of her relationship with Charles come out in the 10th book?."Yes! I'm not sure if (view spoiler)
Timelord Iain wrote: "It's easy to grow annoyed with characters... it's what started grating on me after 30-40 books... some character traits/tropes...."True. It felt like they were playing up his brutishness more with each book, but maybe the rose-tinted glasses are craking. *Shrug*
Nyssa wrote: "Re: Peabody's Men: I think the gender flop would only be skeevy if the women did not know about each other.Peabody's situation is fun and acceptable because they are consenting adults, and we kno..."
So true! As long as everyone was aware, adult, and consenting... but would we look down on a male more for boasting about it? With Peabody it just seems cute... Or would it depend on the man? Or the woman, I suppose... if it had been any of the predatory female characters in In Death making similar lines, I would not feel supportive...
@Iain--I think you're right about book 10--I remember being a little surprised about that (when I missed book 9)--I was like, oh, we're there already?

Into #11 Judgment in Death a bit more, about 4/11 hours. Hit that marital spat. I have to agree--(view spoiler)
^^ I wrote that before going to work today and forgot to post ^^
Later, when Eve bursts in on Roarke's work... (view spoiler)
Nearing the end now. Have some suspects, but very curious to see how it all turns out...
OH and I LOVED that Mavis scene!
Random funny from #11 Judgment in Death--Eve talking to AI system or Police Bot or Droid or whatever they call it--AI: "Working. Multitask of this magnitude will require a minimum of 4 hours 20 minutes to complete."
Eve: "Then you better get your ass in gear."
AI: "Command unknown. Please rephrase command."
Started 'Midnight in death', hopefully will read it today as I suppose to loose net connection till 15 Feb due to delays in having new net connection equipment installed by new service provider. We can say I'm foaming, plus trying to deal with not exactly happy 10 years old addicted to screens and his silly clips from YouTube... Bought him yesterday Magicians vs Demigods by Rick Riordan - so I have 2 days of peace... I hope :)

Finished #11 Judgment in Death and really liked it--as always! These aren't quite Wandering Inn level of comfort, but it's getting up there. Nice snacky reads. Once Eve started digging into the backstories of the suspects, with Mira's psych profile in our memory, the suspects became a lot clearer. More vague was the whole crime syndicate thingy. That dude seriously had too much of a grudge. And I agree with everyone--Cave Man romance is... not comfortable. I pretty much FF through all the romance scenes at this point... but I love the counseling session with Mavis!
The danger in fast forwarding is how she has an epiphany about the case right after, usually... luckily, they go fast at 2.5x speed...
They are almost popcorn reads for me.I know for a fact that if I did not have the audio accompaniment, it would take me longer to read the books. Unfortunately, since I can go through them quickly, I find myself forgetting some of the details from previous books as I consume the next one. Like, (view spoiler)
Nyssa wrote: " started Betrayal in Death (Book #12) yesterday evening.I was going to post one of my thoughts on a character but changed my mind. It was a snap judgment..."
I have less than 100 pages to go, and I have an awful feeling that my snap judgment (view spoiler) may have been correct after all - if that is the case (which, I realize, even the title is hinting), I feel for (view spoiler).
There is still enough time for me to be wrong, though.
*Fingers Crossed*
I think the mystery / developments in Betrayal were pretty good...
Peabody/McNab clearly have some stuff to resolve (they got cut off by the case, the one time they tried)

You're right! Rourke definitely could use some counseling/buddy scenes too! The only one I think we've seen was in an early book with Feeney..

Reminds me of the Time Police books with Luke talking to the AI... You have to say please xD
Jumped right into Interlude in Death (#12.5)
This is the one other time Eve (and the entire police department, it feels like) goes off-planet, I think... to a convenient cop convention/seminar...

Some people already jumped in (Emily/Charlie)

Tonari no Emily wrote: "Haha guilty! It was very good :D"Audio log for the Feb definitely very top heavy... I have a feeling I'm going to be late to everything. Looking forward to it ALL though!
My audio log is similar but worse... the official log doesn't include the 3 Mysteries I read with the Mystery Book Club each month, or all the entries for In Death... or all the short stories we just kinda unofficially include in-between main novels in series...
@Nirkatze agree! Book addiction is better! I finished 'Midnight...' yesterday and started 'Animal Farm' by Orwell. I'm surprised I never laid my hands on it.
Monika wrote: "@Nirkatze agree! Book addiction is better! I finished 'Midnight...' yesterday and started 'Animal Farm' by Orwell. I'm surprised I never laid my hands on it."LOL that's quite a change in pace and mood!
I read Interlude in Death yesterday. It was okay. The concept was interesting, but it felt like something was missing. Also, despite their best efforts, I felt no sympathy for the planner(s) and perpetrator(s). I gave it 3.5 Stars
I just started Judgement in Death #11... Every book Rourke shows up on page for the first time, she always has some beautiful sentence about his Irish lilt. I can't remember what it was this time around, but I remember being very pretty... She can definitely sound poetic when she wants to.Maaaaaannnn, I hope the victim (view spoiler)

I shook my head and chuckled.
Hahaha! I just got to the caveman romance scene and as much as I completely agree with all of you, this is exactly what us, Gen X-ers were talking about! This is soooo sign of the times! We thought that was hot, folks, just read any romance, from historical to paranormal, of the 90's and it will give you the cringes across the board:))) I also encountered the "Don't forget the Dick!" girls night out conversation, hahaha! It is connected directly to the Ego, medically:)))))) Mavis is an awesome BFF to have!
Still in Judgement in Death #11, half way through. Session with Mira - Is he on some particular diet? Vitamins maybe? Hahaha! Mira is going to get her husband talk with Rourke about his "diet":)))

The series hasn't even introduced Mr. Mira, yet, who becomes a bit of a surrogate dad figure for Eve, to go with Dr. Mira as mom figure... he's a pretty sweet professor type... Dr. Mira spices up that marriage :D

Just finished Judgement in Death and really enjoyed it! It was good from beginning to end. I started fighting out who the murder was after Mira's profile, as Nirkatze said. I am so glad we are reading these - just a good reliable read in between the other BRs:)))
So glad to see you all are enjoying those early books. Sometimes I miss the early days of Roarke and Dallas. They always seemed a lot more passionate. What is so weird is when you think of how much time has passed in the books compared to real life.
Hah Baby scene in #11! That is still me...Also very excited to meet Mr. Mira now!! And LOL vitamins!
Really interesting thought, Kirsten, about how much time has passed in book v. publication--I almost feel like at the book/week rate we're reading, we're almost keeping up with the time span in the story so far... we read the Xmas one around Xmas, and so on...
That is kind of what Iain and I were thinking when we planned the series read. We know the tight time frame and reading a book a week makes us feel like we are reading in real time:))) "Live from New York!", haha:)
Tonari no Emily wrote: "Agreed! I finished Betrayal in Death last night.. My suspicions were spot on! But I'm glad Rourke's friend (I'm garbage with names...) wasn't doing it out of malice... He just wanted..."

One of my favorite scenes. Don't worry about how Roarke and Eve are in the early books. One of the great things in the series is how they evolve as people.
