12% of Conspiracy In Death behind me. This Bowers girl is a slimy piece of creature. I love Peabody's reaction :)

Nyssa!!!! That is awesome! I am happy with having them be an uncle and an aunt for all their closest friends' children for now:))) Thank you so much for that!
Finished #15 In Purity last night! I wasn't expecting (view spoiler)I really appreciated the conversations about the frustrations of police work, having to make compromises and let small fish swim free in order to hook the big fish, but the biggest fish still get off scott free... and the fine line between justice and vigilante-ism... I kind of wish that Eve would get slapped harder for her own forays into breaking the law with Roarke's info equipment...
I've always heard a baby/pregnancy would be the end of the series...
BUT... even if Eve got pregnant, I feel like Roberts/Robb could fit another dozen books in during the 9 month pregnancy, before ending in the delivery room :D
Given how tight the timeline on the series is... the bigger concern at this point is that Robb is going on 70+ I think... how many more years will she be writing?...

When I think of parenting & police officering--I keep coming back to Major Crimes--though that was more fostering an almost-adult than raising a child...
I watched the Closer (not sure I finished the final season), but not Major Crimes...
Finishing the month strong, on the reading front... finished Blood of Liscor today (8hrs left, 3 sped up), Howling Dark (paused with 5hrs left, 1.5hr sped up), Assassins of Thasalon (full book, 4.5hrs sped up), and now starting Portrait in Death (5hrs sped up)...
If I finish this, I'll be at 525 pages/day for the month, 3 more hours of audio than I read in the longer month of January(430 & 433hrs), and 502 pages/day for the year...
Story: Doesn't look like things are going as well for Eve... Summerset's 3 week vacation was just derailed by a fall down the stairs...

Big numbers Iain! I'm around 220-230 pages a day, but I'm regular reader, no audio. I think audio would not work for me, I'm 'switching off' for background noise. Always did :)
Nirkatze wrote: "When I think of parenting & police officering--I keep coming back to Major Crimes--though that was more fostering an almost-adult than raising a child..."Is that the full name of the show? I think that might be the one Police Procedural I haven't tried yet. LOL
I need like 100 years to read all the books I want to read, and then 100 more to watch all the shows I want to watch!
I've basically decided to focus on books... if I slump on books I might do more shows/movies... but otherwise it's mostly books...
I do some youtube & D&D actual plays while eating or trying to sleep... otherwise not really...

I tend to watch more TV when I'm not feeling well... Sunday was like that for me (I may or may not have been very hungover LOL) Re-watched a show and watched 2 movies..
@Nyssa--I'm rather fond of police procedural TV shows... much like this book series... you don't have to pay too much attention while watching, and the best parts are how the characters and relationships grow across the monster-of-the-day episodes...The Closer ran for 7 seasons (2005-2012), and then when the main character moved on to other things, the show changed its name to Major Crimes and ran for another 6 years (2012-2018). I really enjoyed all of it.
@Nirkatze - I looked them up. It's available through HBO Max, but I don't want to add another Subscription to my list.Hopefully, it'll become part of Amazon Prime someday!
My current TV procedurals are NCIS (I restarted from the beginning. I had stopped initially during Season 14, I think.
And Will Trent (although I've been bingeing NCSI, so I'm a few episodes behind).
I'm upset that Paramount Plus doesn't have all of the NCIS LA seasons. I love the concept of that show, and I enjoyed the episodes I watched years ago.

NCIS LA's contract limits streaming access to the newest season, on any streaming service... maybe that'll change next year, since the show is in it's final season...

I got the idea in my head to watch the entire franchise in order, and found a suggested list: https://itsastampede.com/2022/04/26/h...
Reunion in Death - Chapter 12 The description of Eve's reaction to "the country" is ridiculous and hilarious!

I mean... it makes sense... in a horrible way... (view spoiler)

Timelord Iain wrote: "I mean... it makes sense... in a horrible way... (view spoiler)"Yeah. I understood.
I wondered how that aspect would be handled, and I think Robb made an excellent decision.

Hah! I remember that! Like "How do they survive so far from civilization?"
Timelord Iain wrote: "Nyssa wrote: "Warning - Major Spoiler"I mean... it makes sense..."
And adversely, it also makes me think of (view spoiler)
Hahaha! How much Eve feels as an alien in the country, is absolutely hilarious!!! Her obsession that farm animals are just biting their time planning an attack - just golden! And about your spoiler - that is dehumanizing! The whole situation is just f@#$*d up!!!
Choko wrote: "I hope you like it as much as I did, Nyssa:)."I did! It was an excellent installment!
My only teeny tiny quibble was (view spoiler) LOL
Is it wrong that I love that Eve can be just as vicious in her protection of Roarke as he can with his protection of her?
(view spoiler)
Nyssa wrote: "(view spoiler)"I read your comment as (view spoiler) and was confused for a second, but then my brain started working again. ^^
Dittoing Choko--I prefer it that way... I'd get annoyed at either of them if they were the only one being vicious in that way, but with it being each of them, they're just well paired.
I agree with both of you; they are equal and well-paired partners. LOL@ Nirkatze's initial reading of my comment.
I should start book 9, but... Kinda taking short break from reading... Just can't concentrate on any of them, no matter paperback or ebook. Hmmm... Watched 'The 13th warrior' yesterday... With my man we decided they not making so good movies anymore these days...
I have been having the same problem, Monika. So last week after work, I binged the second season of Major Crimes, since we were talking about it... I love that show so much!
Agreeing with y'all that its definitely better they are equally viscously protective of each other :)Side-note: y'all is getting spellchecked on me, even though it's been an accepted contraction for quite some time (even if "informal"). I find that quite offensive >< lol
Tonari no Emily wrote: "Agreeing with y'all that its definitely better they are equally viscously protective of each other :)Side-note: y'all is getting spellchecked on me, even though it's been an accepted contraction ..."
Huh--is it spellchecked on a phone or specific browser? My computer doesn't have any problems with "y'all" on Opera, Chrome, Word, Sigil....
Also just typo'd Chrome as "Chrone" and I feel like it's going to stick...
Its on Chrome! I'm on a work computer now, I'm gonna see if it does that on my personal one at home later... Interesting
Firefox recognizes the word...
Re:reading: I feel like the reading machine Charlie and others describe me as, sometimes... even when I slump, I don't usually completely quit reading... sometimes it might take me 2-4 days to finish a book, but I read every day, at least while driving usually...
Lately, I've struggled to want to watch any TV unless I'm eating or sleeping... so much so, that watching TV quickly puts me to sleep... so I stick to reading...

Started #16 Portrait in Death--interesting premise so far... the bit about death photography in the beginning reminds me of that movie The Others....

I loved the Final Destination movies... and I'm not really a horror / scary movie guy... but I loved the premise... I think it was the 3rd one that had my favorite thing, tho, with the photographs foreshadowing deaths, including historical photos like one of 9/11 and Abraham Lincoln...

Realized I was off in the numbers >.< up to 16, not 15...#16 Portrait in Death Chapter 6--just lucky to hear the transition to 7 ^^--am I allowed to ship Sommerset & Smiley? And its both sweet and amusing (view spoiler)
Chapter 7--I loved this exchange between Eve & Peabody:

Yeah I've never head 9-1-1 said as 9/11... Does anyone with a text version see if its specifically spelled out as "nine-eleven" or otherwise indicated it's said that way? I would be thinking its a narrator choice for some reason...
Nirkatze wrote: "End of Chapter 11--almost exactly 50% 5:30 in to #15 Purity in DeathMan, I always feel so accomplished when I actually hear a chapter! [spoilers removed]"
Haha! (view spoiler)
Tonari no Emily wrote: "Its on Chrome! I'm on a work computer now, I'm gonna see if it does that on my personal one at home later... Interesting"My personal pc recognizes y'all... Interesting, I thought it was a Chrome thing, but apparently it depends on the computer too?
I think Summerset gets a new love interest later on... a better one than the previous one, that (view spoiler)
EDIT: Did some searching, and that's not until book 40... not sure if there's anything else before then... (view spoiler)

Halfway through Imitation in Death... this one's great... full of great scenes/moments... Eve+Mira, Eve+Peabody, Baxter+Trueheart... this old granny type just told Eve she wishes she'd known she'd seen a murderer leave a crime scene... she'd have told her grandson to run him over with his car when he arrived, she would :D
I started In Death #15 Purity in Death ... Up to Ch. 4... I absolutely love Trueheart! I completely understand why Eve got scary overprotective and I love her for it. She has to get him ready for all the testing and questioning IA is going to have to put him thru... The discussion about the place IA has in the police department is very good. I hate how needed it is and how hated the cops who choose to work there are. We all wish there were no bad cops and IA was not needed, but there is a lot of questionable stuff going on in every police department, and someone has to investigate it...
In this series, you hope you get Webster, because you know he will be thorough and he knows the job from the other side as well... I like him!
#15, Purity in Death. Up to Ch. 11... Mavis is so happy!!! It made me happy for her. And Eve's perplexed reaction was, as always, priceless:)I am very worried about McNab and really hope he gets better!
It's wonderful to see Jamie again and have some time in his POV. I love that kid! I wonder if, as he is growing up and gaining experience, if he will keep wanting to join the Police, or if he will go for the big bucks...
I agree with both sides, Eve and Rourke, on the law and vigilantism... But I would have been terrified by his putting his brain in danger like that and I would have been even worse than her when she confronted him about it...

Apparently, my work computer doesn't like it, but home computer does? On both Opera and Chrome. Ah! There's an "add to dictionary" choice! Just did that. Feeling much happier now that y'all is properly welcomed into the family.
