6. A book by Stephen King, John Grisham, Clive Cussler, Louis L'Amour, James Michener, Michael Crichton, or Robert Ludlum.

I always cringe at prompts that highlight just one author, unless of course I already like reading that author. Not everyone wants to read Stephen King books, and some of us will be getting close to having already read all his books in another year or so anyway. But I've noticed a lot lately how gendered book marketing is, and how much it dictates what people read. Almost all the men I meet who read are familiar with one or more of the authors in this prompt, while most women I meet who read have barely read anything by any of these authors. I own books by all these authors, and have read and enjoyed books by all but Ludlum from this list (my brother really likes Ludlum's books, so I'll try one soon).
For this prompt I am reading another Stephen King book, the short story collection Everything's Eventual.
Everything's Eventual 14 Dark Tales by Stephen King

Cathy (cathepsut) | 577 comments Well, marketing doesn‘t seem to work on me. I am pretty sure I haven‘t read anything by Louis L'Amour and I am unsure about Michener, but I‘ve read several books by all of the others.

I can recommend the Jason Bourne books by Ludlum. At least the first few of them, haven‘t read the newer ones.

And yes, this prompt and the next one made me cringe really hard.

Two of my favorite books, Alaska and Hawaii, are by Michener. They are long, but really good.

Julie | 147 comments I read Micheners The Covenant last year and really enjoyed. I think I will go for Stephen King this time though :)

Dee (austhokie) | 127 comments i think i've read most of those authors and they don't really do anything for me - my male a/t authors tend to lean towards James Rollins or Matthew Reilly

Have you tried Douglas Preston and Lee Child, separately or together?

I finished this one with a couple books by Louis L'Amour, though I may still get to the Stephen King book I initially pegged for this one.

Valley of the Sun
Bowdrie, Bowdrie's Law: Stories - - probably my favorites of these, about Chick Bowdrie, a Ranger who wanders around the West solving crimes, apprehending villains and resolving disputes.
The Man from Skibbereen
The Man from the Broken Hills

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 137 comments I'm not a huge fan of any of the authors but due to other challenges I managed to get through 6 books--1 John Grisham and 5 Stephen King.
