SOS Bookshelf Bingo R11 ~ Week 1 ~ New 2 You Author

Starcrossed (Starcrossed, #1) by Josephine Angelini

Finished:5/05/15
Rating:5♥

Review:
This book was so good. It took me a couple chapters to get into it but once things got rolling it was great. I enjoyed it mostly because it had a lot to do with Greek and Egyptian mythology and Gods and Demigods. There were a few tearful moments and more then enough laugh out loud moments. Definitely worth checking out if your into that kind of thing :)

A Little Night Magic by Lucy March
Read: 5.2.15
Rating: 3 stars
Review:

There's magic linoleum at Crazy Cousin Betty's Waffle House.

Live has worked at Crazy Cousin Betty's since she was in high school. The sparkly blue square near booth 9 is reported to be magic. Liv got a prom date from a wish on the square but it did nothing to stop her mom's cancer. Tobias is the cook and Liv has had a crush on him for years. After he rejects her, Liv decides she is leaving Nodaway Falls forever. Then Davina comes to town. Davina appears to be a sweet Southern lady but things get strange after she befriends Liv.

This was a quirky little book that unveils unknown talent. Liv discovers that she is magical and so are others in town. Things get ugly when true feelings surface among Liv's friends. I loved Liv's day magic and the things she can do. It's the night magic that becomes a problem.

Fun read.

Missing You by Harlan Coben by Harlan Coben

Date Read: 28 April
Rating: 3 stars
Review:
I picked this one up at the library on impulse since I've heard so much about the author. It's a suspense with a bit of romance and it reads like that. The suspense portion was done well whereas the romance portion didn't ring true. Since part of the suspense ties with the romance and I didn't buy the reasoning, the book sort of flopped for me. On the whole, an ok read. I might try another book by the author.

The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon by Samantha Shannon

Date Read: 6 May
Rating: 3 stars
Review:
This had so much great reviews from my friends and there was this new copy waiting for me at the library that I didn't hesitate to pick up. I really cannot be classified into a genre per se but I would say it's mostly fantasy with romantic elements. And that's a genre I really like and I'm always on the lookout for more.

The book started off well but it sort of became more slow-paced. Mainly because, the author didn't really develop the world for us so it's sort of like puzzling things out. This becomes slightly tedious but the action balances it out. Even halfway into the book, I was more often than not, forget what the terms meant. (And only after I finished the book did I realize there was a glossary at the end). It's also set in Britain which is a welcome change from the US set books.

The book follows a lot of standard tropes - lone protagonist, who is super special, elevated by her status etc. The entire book was fairly predictable. I would have liked if there was more world-development or character development. I'm not blown away by the book and I might pick up the next one when the mood strikes.

My work's good. I'm finally starting to contribute instead of mooching. :) I have to say, after a 3 year break, going back to work feels good. I'm still trying to find a balance between work and family and I hope I settle down soon.

Your right there are a lot of choices! I think I'm going to go with either Darkness Becomes Her (Gods & Monsters, #1) by Kelly Keaton or Priceless (Rylee Adamson, #1) by Shannon Mayer

I'm thinking to go with Herb-Witch (Lord Alchemist Duology, #1) by Elizabeth McCoy shelved by 1 person as witches. My selection might change though.
