A couple of things to keep in mind:
✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Calling Not It for captain as I don't have the time, hopefully someone is interested in doing it.

lol! Ok, you can 'not be it'. Or should I phrase it as I am good with you calling 'not it'. 😉 Either way. 🙄 🤓

I don't particularly want to be Captain, especially as it's my first time playing. However, since we don't seem to have any volunteers yet, I might be willing to Co-Captain if needed.

I admit I'm still hoping someone else wants to do it, but I imagine we'll manage if we have to! Thanks for being willing to do it with me. :)

So any brilliant team name ideas? This is my least favourite part of any team competition. No clever ideas here. :D

One for the series

I think that's all of us.
So have any of you repeat players been a Captain before? I've been reading the details and I can't figure out how time specific the duties are.

I am also willing to do the Check-in at that point if everyone has Completion Posts done. But we do have all day Friday to post them even if the books had to have been completed before midnight Thursday Central Time.
So if they are posted later and whoever Co-captains or just wants to just steps up first could take care if it. Because I tend to not get into Goodreads until after noon, most days so 2pm Central, at the earliest.

These are fun, I always like to play with the team number or the players names, so these work for me.

One of you in the East, or just on early in the day to cover whatever might come up, because I know my biggest weekness is most often from 6am to 2pm Central (or 7 to 3 eastern)

If you'd like to do it, that would be great. My schedule varies quite a bit, and I'm worried I wouldn't be available right when I'm needed! That said, I'd be happy to serve as backup.

And it sounds like All Series Start With One seems to be a crowd favourite. I like it myself. Is everyone okay with that, or do we want to keep discussing? I like decisions. :D

I haven't managed to think that far ahead yet. It crossed my mind that I should start sorting out where I am in each series, but that hasn't happened, lol. Maybe tonight?

Sounds like we are set for the team name and me as primary Co-captain with Mandian as first back-up and Truitt as second.
👍👍👍🤓

I've only been on GR for a little over a year, but I love Challenges! That said, I've figured out that I don't enjoy all Challenges equally. I suspect I will really like this one - it has enough structure to help direct my reading, but isn't so restrictive that I'm stuck looking for and reading multiple books a week I won't enjoy.

😉🤓

Eeek! I can't wait. My sleep deprived mind thought we still had another day to get through.

I was being overly eager….

Ok, you had me a bit worried for a minute that I had the dates messed up.
But it is tomorrow night at midnight Central that I roll.
Phew!!!!! 😎

I will check in every morning, and after I close up at night, but it's a crapshoot if I'll have time during the day. Thanks for running the game for us captains. This is one of my favourites because it is not super structured, but I can always find a couple of choices per roll. Have a good day all. Back to my kitchen.

I'd rather be working out in the yard, but it's rain all day for us. Fortunately, it's not cold enough to produce sleet, snow, or freezing rain. I live in Georgia (U.S.) and we do not cope well with winter weather!

If all goes as intended, I won't be up at 1am my time when you roll - I'll have to check tomorrow. Don't expect a selection post from me until Frinday night - I've got a long work day tomorrow and posting from work is tricky.
Er...are we doing selection posts? It just occurred to me that I'm not certain about that.
I suppose I should just pick a book for all six possibilities...correction - all twelve.

Ooooh...kitchen. What ya making?"
Commercial kitchen. I opened a new casual dining restaurant last month. As I can't seem to find staff who will actually show up, I am doing all the prep, cooking and service for the moment. So I am baking up the last of my 16 dozen cookies right now before I go home. Today I made hamburger buns, hamburgers, broccoli cheddar soup, gravy, coleslaw, pizza dough, roasted a beef flat and a ham for shaving tomorrow, poached and shredded a few chickens, cooked a few dozen potatoes for mashed, made some tourtiere and raisin pies, rolled out some extra shells for tomorrows quiche, sliced the tomatoes and onions for all the days sandwiches, and probably a couple of other things I have forgotten now. Sorry you asked? :D

Yummy! My freezer is full of uncooked meat. We burned through all our prepped stuff long ago, in the fall when the baby was newly arrived.
