Forgot to mention that I've started reading Death At The President's Lodging by Michael Innes (1937), the first in the Inspector Appleby series.

Bruce | 3121 comments Oh yes. I didn’t notice you typed the incorrect title, but I knew which movie it was. It has at least a couple actors I really like, Frank Finlay and Guy Doleman. I’d maybe watch it if it’s so-bad-it’s-good, like some of the much lesser Hammer Film productions.

Karloff did a TV movie of the book, which is much better. He plays the actual character too.

I found Deadly Bees on youtube as an episode of MST3K so against my better judgment, I watched it. Oh lordy, that was terrible, even with bot banter. The main character in the movie is a singer who is exhausted and needs a break ... no Mr. Mycroft, no nothing actually connected with the novel except for the bees and a name or two. Book fun movie bad.

Away from mysteries for the moment. While I'm waiting for The Final Girl Support Group to show up in the mail I'm dipping into Dennis Etchison's The Dark Country. It's been on my shelf a looong time and I should have read it all by now. That said, the minute Hendrix's novel shows, I'm diving in.

Thriller about multiple killings in a small town. Bland shallow characters but a dynamite plot. Takes a while to get there but it's worth the wait. I liked it

PattyMacDotComma | 943 comments Like Liz, I just enjoyed The Woman in the Library, by one of my favourite Aussie authors, Sulari Gentill. It's a wonderfully tricky, multi-layered mystery where I think I suspected almost everyone, real and fictional. A great read!

The Juneteenth Story: Celebrating the End of Slavery in the United States by Alliah L. Agostini set me straight in this well-illustrated book for kids (and ignorant grown-ups like me).

Araych | 694 comments Rock of Ages Rock of Ages (Junior Bender, #8) by Timothy Hallinan by Timothy Hallinan

Junior Bender #8, you probably should read the series in order. Just FYI, Tim Hallinan couldn't write a dull book if he tried. In this one Junior is tasked to keep watch on a bunch of crooks who have organized a tour of old rock bands. The first chapter is a bit slow but from then on this thing screams ahead like a '57 Chevy with a Corvette engine. 5 big loud stars.

James Best (jamesbest) | 312 comments Now starting ROCK OF AGES by Timothy Hallinan, the eighth novel in his ongoing mystery series featuring the erudite and humorous burglar Junior Bender, who often finds himself serving as a private eye to Hollywood's criminal elite.

This is one of my favorite series that is somewhat off of the radar for mystery fans. I do hope they manage to track it down because Hallinan is one of the best in the business.
