I just finished The Death of Jane Lawrence as my second book of 2022. This one was a struggle for me. I liked it at the beginning but by the middle of the book I just wanted it to be over. The first book that I read this year was which I enjoyed for the most part.

Ditto. I liked it a lot through to about page 250, but the last 100+ pages I was over it. That book needed to be about 60 or so pages shorter.

finished this one today and was so disappointed, ha ha! nice thing about starting the year with a 1-star is that it can only get better from here.

I have read The Store and The Resort. It's been awhile but I remember liking the The Store.

Read The Dry this week. Very good, interesting story and I finished it in time to watch the movie tomorrow night.

Other books I have read is The last by Tina Farr, lol. My goal is to read four books this month . Happy reading!

The movie was terrible. It didn't catch any of the feel of the book and barely even told the story.

Good Neighbors - 4 stars, but I still can't gather my thoughts enough to write a review. It was a rough read.

I really enjoyed Good Neighbors. It left me a lot to think about.

I finished one of our group reads: The Dead Girls Club and I also finished Blue Hell.

I know it purposely reminded us of the Twilight Zone episode The Monsters Arrive on Maple Street, but man! It was so hard to read. Somehow, horror is worse for me, when it's just so undeniably realistic, no hocus pocus, monsters, etc. just PEOPLE!

This took me by surprise--it's an extremely well-written, literary sort of novel, at least until the wormpocalypse happens near the end. I loved it.

I very much enjoyed that one! I also love the word play of the author's name.

I didn’t even realize about the author’s pseudonym until I was almost finished and found myself thinking, “This is a bit like M.R. James.” I looked back at the title page and the coin finally dropped. I’m a bit slow sometimes.

It Only Comes Out at Night & Other Stories
This huge Dennis Etchison career retrospective collection is often brilliant, but at 600+ pages it’s probably really only for hardcore fans (like me). For the more casual reader the smaller, more carefully curated Talking in the Dark: An Anthology of the Work of Dennis Etchison would likely be a better choice. Either way, it’s Etchison. You really can’t go wrong.

I've just read the novelization of the Halloween film (the newest one just called Halloween). I don't think I've read a movie novelization before, I've read novels that continue film, game, etc stories but not one that is the same story.

I was pleasantly surprised. I expected not to enjoy it due to already knowing the story but it was actually really good

When I was a teen, I would go to the library and look for horror anthologies. From those, I would track down other works from the authors that I enjoyed and Dennis Etchison was always one of them. Steve Rasnic Tem as well.

Three bizarro short stories/novellas. Journey to the Center of Agnes Cuddlebottom is one of the best pieces of bizarro fiction I have read so far.

For me it was the Alfred Hitchcock anthologies. I first encountered so many later favorites in those books! Robert Bloch, Roald Dahl, John Collier, Richard Matheson, on and on….
