didn't really vibe with this one. gave it a 3-star for now, but i was flip flopping between 2 and 3 for a while.
I finished up Eric LaRocca's latest They Were Here Before Us: A Novella in Pieces
. It was an excellent novella!
I finished the first "Bachman" book
Rage by Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman
Rating: 3 stars (more like 3.5)
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Vessel by Adam Nevill The shortest Adam Nevill yet really packs a lot into 150 pages. Great story. Perfect ending.
I finished Ron Malfi's Ghostwritten
. It was a collection of four novellas, all of which were book related. There are a few Malfi's I haven't read yet, but of what I've read from him so far? This is the best.

Oh, good. I just picked that up. The prospect of novellas I could pick off whenever I want was appealing. Also, ghosts.
I just finished
and honestly it was the best book I have read this year. Maybe even the best book I have read in the last couple of years.

I'd love to hear your thoughts when you get around to reading it!

I might have to get that one!
I read another from Valancourt that I just finished last week:
and it was beyond good.
That's next on my list, Char, good to hear you liked it that much. Valancourt is going to be the financial ruin of me, but I don't mind.
Daniel Church The Hollows
Perfect winter reading - Folk horror with plenty of pace, and drenched in atmosphere

This sounds really great, Catherine! I added it to my TBR.

Erin wrote: "I have that one on my list. The book description is definitely....something, lol."right? i'd been seeing it around for a while now + happened to find a used copy at a local bookstore. it was such a rough read, but really well-written. worth the trauma for sure, lol. :)

Yeah, I figured the reading was going to be tough due to the subject matter. I'd probably grab it from the library.
Great book, but, man, did it kick my ass reading it. I don't know why I wasn't able to fly through like I normally do.

I just finished this too, and loved it!
There could have been a little more horror, especially (view spoiler) but it was definitely very entertaining.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Within the last week or so I read these books:The Crow Witch and Other Conjurings
You Belong to Me and Other True Cases
From Below
Four Octobers
by Rick Hautala. I generally love novella collections (Charles L. Grant is a favorite), but these stories were all overlong, needlessly detailed, slow as molasses and downright dull. My first Hautala book shall be, alas, my last.
Char wrote: "Mr. Gaunt and Other Uneasy Encounters
by John Langan. It was good with a few outstanding stories."
I was awed by the title story and "On Skua Island," then Langan went off in other directions that I found less compelling. I wonder if, knowing now that those stories weren't in the same vein, I'd be more appreciative.

Did you not care for The Fisherman? I liked the same story you did as well as quite a few others. The thing with this collection though, is that it's very dense. Page after page of solid text with very little dialogue. Which is fine, but it gets daunting at times...I found I had to take a break between stories.

The Shadow Murders by Jussi Adler-Olsen
This may be the best Department Q novel yet!"
I was lurking, and just saw this. Definitely added to the tbr. I love this series
