I'm currently on a Chuck Palahnuik kick, ended the year with The Invention of Sound and currently reading Haunted. For Christmas I got most of his other books. Do you all have a favorite from him?

He's extremely hit or miss for me-- I either love it, or hate it--no in between.

Night Magic: A Novel
Thomas Tryon’s posthumously-published “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” riff took me by surprise, after reading the poor reviews it initially received. I found it enthralling and beautifully written. Apparently the novelist Valerie Martin had a hand in finalizing the manuscript for publication after Tyron’s death; whatever the authorship, it’s a terrific book that should be better known.

Have you read anything else by him? The Deep is really good too.
Erin wrote: "Have you read anything else by him? My library has all his books so I am on a waiting list at the moment for The Deep. Not sure when I will get but it is looking to be a couple of months. lol
currently reading the living dead - its really good but definitely epic in scope. reminds me of the stand
We read this as a group, Max, a few months back. Brian even came and answered some questions for us. Look for the Brian Keene Q and A thread.I'm listening to his book, Earthworm Gods right now. What a blast!

Char, I’m wondering if Earthworm Gods would make a good companion piece to Worms, which I just read and loved. I don’t generally like Keene very much but I might give this a try. Would you call it Lovecraftian?

I've read them all minus The Breach. I have not read any under the author's true name, Craig Davidson.

I guess it could be a companion piece, sure.
Whereas WORMS was quite well written, (at least I thought so), EARTHWORM GODS is more of a creature-feature piece, full of fun. Cthulhu was mentioned as well as a character or two from The Rising, (Ob), but it is not a Lovecraftian type story.
To me Lovecraftian may feature creatures of all kinds, but the focus is usually on the humans that want to help the creatures come through or take over. There is usually a cosmic aspect to the tales, and of course, the signature racism of Lovecraft. None of these things is happening here. Which does not mean that it's not good or fun, because to me, it is both and just what I needed right now.

Thanks, Char!
I just finished this one during the early morning hours this morning:
by Brennan LaFaro - really great book about hauntings and ghosts.
Not horror but I had to read it! The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music
by Dave GrohlThoroughly enjoyed it!

I loved this so much! I listened on audio and he had me in tears quite a few times. Dave Grohl is awesome.
Oooh ooh ooh, how did you like it? I have that one coming up.To be honest, I think the Stoker Awards people hosed her. The Last House on Needless Street deserved to be nominated.

About to write a review! I had no idea what was happening for most of it (much like Needless Street), but when things start coming together, it's like MAGIC--I wonder if I'll catch more clues in a reread of this one.

Looks interesting. I’m not well versed - would it be a good primer on the topic?
- ★★★★
- ★★★★★ KUI loved Incarnate! I read it because it is on the preliminary Stoker award list. So creepy and chilling!

Does anyone know if there is a list for Kindle Horror Unlimited reads? I signed up for 6 months, and I would like to get my money's worth, but I'm looking for Horror specifically. There is probably a way to find Horror reads on the unlimited sites, but it does not seem to be a subgroup that I can find. Though maybe someone made a list over here. I tried Kindle unlimited Horror, but no happy there.
Daniel wrote: "Looks interesting. I’m not well versed - would it be a good primer on the topic?"yeah, the author did a really good job outlining everything in an easily digestible way. it was the first book i'd read on the subject myself, but i'd recommend. :)

You can then filter by clicking "Kindle Unlimited Eligible" on the left-hand side

That was so easy. I really need to stop accessing stuff with just my phone. I know I don't get the same screen and limited options, but sometimes I use what is handy, and my phone is always handy!
Navi wrote: "I have Slattery Falls on my TBR - glad you enjoyed it!"Just now seeing this Navi! Sorry about that, but yeah this book was great! New to me author and I was impressed about how creepy the book was and that it kept me pinned in my seat. Hope you enjoy it when you read it. :)
Just finished within the last few days:The Whispering Dead by Darcy Coates
and
Stirred by J.A. Konrath

Badseedgirl wrote: "The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music [bookcover:The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music|576480..."Doesn't he? I really loved listening to that book.
I finished our group read with Daniel Barnett, and loved it. Nightfall I also finished Spontaneous Human Combustion by Richard Thomas, which was an above average story collection due out later this month.
Elantris. Brandon Sanderson might convince me there is a reason to write a book longer than 400 pages.
