Hi Reed! Do you mean books you have written or books that you own? Either way, yes! You can read any book over 100 pages for this challenge. If you struggle to figure out where they fit, just let us know and we can help :)
Reed wrote: "ᗷOOKᔕ📚TᕼᗩT I Oᗯᑎ"Yes, you can read books you own. You aren't expected to buy any new books. I tend to read all books that I currently own or I might borrow an audiobook from the library. :)

You can count your book as long as you have more than 100 pages left to read when the read a thon starts. That is a very long book so I am sure you will. What are you reading?
Reed wrote: "ᗩᖇE ᗯE TᕼE OᑎᒪY OᑎEᔕ ᗯᕼO ᔕIGᑎEᗪ ᑌᑭ ᔕO ᖴᗩᖇ?"It looks like there are 7 people on our team so far :)
Reed wrote: "ᗷᑌT, ᗯE ᗩᖇE TᕼE OᑎᒪY OᑎEᔕ Oᑎ ᕼEᖇE ᔕO ᖴᗩᖇ ᗯᕼEᖇE Iᔕ EᐯEᖇYOᑎE EᒪᔕE"I bet they will all check in tomorrow when the readathon starts :)
Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to reading with you all during the next week! I've never done this before, so I just want to quickly double check something before we get started. Are all the shelves other than the "personal shelves" referring to Goodreads shelves (like the example Emily gave in the main thread)? It doesn't mean that I should have a shelf by that name right? Thank you!
@ ManaThose are excellent questions. I'm really not sure since I've never experience a read-a-thon setup with shelves this way. My first impression was that we just use the shelves listed as a guide and we can place any book we're reading on a specific shelf. The whole point is that we read the most shelves possible within the week.
Am I correct?
I am currently reading The Gift of the Magpie. It would fit on the following shelves: Book Club

I would probably list it as a cozy mystery, unless someone else has a book which could ONLY fit on the cozy mystery shelf.
EDITED TO ADD:
I have posted this in the FAQ section to verify that I am understanding this correctly. 😁
One of the most important things is to initially list the books you plan to read for this event on the PLANNING tab of the spreadsheet. Only list books on the COMPLETION SHEET once you have actually finished reading it.
I will be keeping a listing like I just posted above for each book I read. Then I will be able to easily fit it onto an unused shelf.
I have a rather busy day tomorrow, but will definitely check in several times during the day!
Happy reading and shelving to all us Penguins! 🐧
Good Morning All, I am struggling. I have never accessed Good Read Shelves. I know they are there but I never use them. I didn't understand the explanation. I have no idea what I'm doing. I want to do it myself but I will be lost for awhile. I'm going to reread the explanation again & see if it makes sense this morning. I am excited to be on team Penguin.
Hi all, looking forward to doing the challenge with you!I've got a couple of shorter (100-200 page) books I'd like to read this week so they should be perfect. Will add them to the spreadsheet.
If anyone is confused by the shelving system I'm happy to check shelves for you if that's helpful :)
Sherri wrote: "We need more columns on the planning spreadsheet. Thank You"You can add them by right-clicking the last column and choosing the option 'add column to right'. I've added some more now.

On the first page of shelves, I see that 63 people have marked it as "book-club" so that is one option that I can use. I also see that 2182 people have it shelved as "currently-reading" so that is another option. Does that make sense? I'm not the best at explaining things. lol
Sherri wrote: "Good Morning All, I am struggling. I have never accessed Good Read Shelves. I know they are there but I never use them. I didn't understand the explanation. There are also two different version of the book pages right now, the classic and the Beta version. Let us know what you are using and maybe we can explain it better?
Amy wrote It's all different depending on how you access Goodreads. Are you using the app, mobile on your phone or a computer? I can only access all the read-a-thon information on my chrome book. I got on top shelves so I can at least see those. I'm going to take a stab at the planning spreadsheet next.
Just to clarify, this is not how you would personally shelve these books (so just because you would shelve it as "favorite" doesn't mean it would count automatically).
You look at the top 100 shelves listed for the book on GR. On the introduction thread, I have some photos that should show you how to access these shelves.
Happy to answer any questions you have!

I would read carefully through the instructions and FAQs to help orient you to the rules and how to access shelves, etc.

I think that is a perfect explanation! I'm going to research the books I've listed to see which of the Goodreads shelves will match them.
I apologize for posting something BEFORE discovering whether I was interpreting the instructions correctly. I certainly only meant to help and unfortunately, I think I just confused us! *Slinking away to redo my entries on the spreadsheet...*
Thank you all for your help. I feel that I understand better now & have put my current read & marked the categories on the planning spreadsheet. I’m only thinking with less than half of my brain. We closed on our new home yesterday so we are moving this week.

I marked all matches for my first two books and now must leave to run errands with my husband. I find it really interesting what other Goodreads members have used as shelf titles!
Sherri wrote: "Thank you all for your help. I feel that I understand better now & have put my current read & marked the categories on the planning spreadsheet. I just added our individual names for the completion thread. I noticed someone added 6 hours of audiobook reading but there was no name at the top. It's under Reed's name for now but if it belongs to someone else, they will need to move it to their own column. I also added my first read, Letters from Father Christmas to the Epistolary shelf. I didn't see anyone else claiming it in the planning tab.

Oohhh...I bet epistolary is one that would be a bit more obscure! Cool!

It looks as if the location shelves will be the trickiest to match.I can finish one that will match South America and read one that will match Mexico.

I was thinking that too. The Theme shelves are pretty tricky for my planned reads. There are plenty of shelves though so we should be fine even if we don't get to those :)
Hi all, joining in late to the party but I just finished the audio book I had going so I added it to the spreadsheet Completion Sheet, plus the two others I have started to the Planning tab.Question for you all, in other read-a-thons, my team has moved books from the Planning tab to a new Completed tab. That way the counts are accurate as to how many books fit a shelf, plus it makes the Planning tab more manageable. What do you think?
Okay. It took me a while to figure this one out. I just finished listening to Lily and the Octopus. No spoilers, but oh so good! I put it under the "Friendship" theme shelf.
Sorry, completely forgot the read-a-thon was starting today! Luckily, I managed to get quite a bit of reading done. I've read half of The Word Is Murder, and I'm expecting to finish it off tomorrow.

Book Shelves Team Challenge
For this team challenge, teams will be reading books for each of the book shelves listed below. Like in team challenges past, you will need to communicate with your team to determine who is reading a book for which shelf so nothing gets missed and you don't spend the week all reading the same shelves. There are 90 shelves to choose from. Your team is not expected to read a book for every shelf. Instead, the object is to read as many books as you can for as many shelves as you can. The team who reads the most shelves at the end of the week will be the winner!
