Sorry Laurel, you're on team Reindeer. I had put you as Lauren instead of Laurel!
Traci, yes sorry lol
Reed, you can discuss with your team what you would like to read.
Kim, can you tell me the name of the book you're considering so I can go check it out?

So would books-i-own be ok for Books-I-Own?

I would probably list it as a cozy mystery, unless someone else has a book which could ONLY fit on the cozy mystery shelf.
Thank you in advance for all you have done, are doing, and probably will do for this Team Readathon! I love these events!!
Just double and triple checking that I understand.
This isn't about how we, personally, shelve a book, but how the GR community as a whole does.
So for example, I use DNF, which isn't in your list. However, as long as it's GR top shelves have users who shelved it as "Did-Not-Finish" or "Abandoned" it would work for either of those shelves for the readathon. (Although boy would it be easier if they were listed alphabetically, rather than by popularity!)
Have I got that right?

It's not what shelves it would fit on but what shelves are listed on the first page of the "top shelves", ie. what other people have shelved it as. So for that book, friendship or north-america wouldn't work:

Kendra, the added s would not count.. it needs to be "favorite" not "favorites". Spaces matter as well, so it must be "stand-alone" not "standalone".
Trish, that's correct. It must be on the top 100 shelves listed by GR users, not your personal shelves. So Lynn, some of those would work (book-club, cozy-mystery), but others would not (cover-love, for example, is not on the top 100 list).
You can see in the screenshots above how to find the Top 100 list if you aren't sure.

Wow. Okay. I was afraid I had it all wrong! Thank you so much for clarifying and correcting me!

Trish, that's correct. It must be on the top 1..."
LOL Well, I do know how to find the top 100 shelves but certainly misunderstood the whole thing!!! I get it now!! (I may be old, but I am not yet 'unteachable'! 😀

Side note, what is the rate for earning wildcards?

So for instance, you could search 'Mexico' and it will tell you which books have been shelved as Mexico, and see which ones you already have on your TBR. I thought it might be a helpful hint for some of the tougher shelves!
Incidentally though, when I searched 'Northern Hemisphere' the top book had only been shelved as that twice, meaning it wasn't in the first 100 shelves for that book. If that's the case with the top book, I think it means it's impossible to find a book with 'Northern Hemisphere' in the top 100 shelves (unless it was a very unknown book that hadn't been shelved much at all).
Great tip Aimee... also, I'll be going replace the northern-hemisphere tag lol. I picked it when I was debating between being able to use all tags or just the top 100, and I guess I didn't check that one as closely as I needed to! Whoops!
BTW, I've found a lot of "favorites" but no "favorite" as yet; likewise "friendships" but no "friendship". I'm guessing they can't be used interchangeably?
Also, the only 2022s I've found haven't actually been released yet, or it isn't on the front genre page, even using Aimee's handy tip.

I'll add the "s" on favorites, but friendship will remain as one team has already completed a book for that tag.
EDIT: Actually both tags have been completed by at least one team, so they will stay as is! If it's too difficult, you can use a wild card on those.
As for 2022, that was always destined to be a long shot, but you can use a wild card or an ARC if someone has one, if it comes down to that one.

I has a new release come through on my kindle at midnight so obviously, I had to start reading it. I didn't think to check the shelves. Even new releases get shelved, right? Um, maybe not. The book is listed on goodreads, and several people have marked it as "currently-reading" at least, but the page isn't showing the GENRES list on the right side of the page. I tried adding the book to a bunch of relevant shelves myself to see if that triggered it, but no. Can I count it knowing that there are less than 100 shelves but I have it shelved that way, or can I not use it since it doesn't have a shelves page at all?
It isn't a big deal if I can not use it, I have two other books I will be finishing today. I just thought it was an interesting conundrum.

Life After Death: A Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. Spin-Off
I just checked again in case GR just needed some time to catch up, but still nothing!
Wild. It does only have one rating, so I guess that's not super surprising... I would say that if you shelve it as something, it will count, since it doesn't look like it has any other shelves.

I know several people are reading it today so maybe by the time I post it to the spreadsheet it will have some other shelves.
I had another new release come in today that I really wanted to get to but it isn't even listed on Goodreads yet. I'm not up for getting it listed so I think I will save that book for after the readathon!

Book Shelves Team Challenge
For this team challenge, teams will be reading books for each of the book shelves listed below. Like in team challenges past, you will need to communicate with your team to determine who is reading a book for which shelf so nothing gets missed and you don't spend the week all reading the same shelves. There are 90 shelves to choose from. Your team is not expected to read a book for every shelf. Instead, the object is to read as many books as you can for as many shelves as you can. The team who reads the most shelves at the end of the week will be the winner!
Rules
1. In order for the book to count for the challenge, the shelf must be listed on the first page of your book's top shelves (i.e. the first 100 shelves).
2. Shelves must match exactly. For example, "to-buy" is not the same as "want-to-buy" and "loved" is not the same as "loved-it."
3. Your team can only read a book once per shelf so you will need to coordinate and communicate to be certain you're not reading over one another. One book per shelf. If two team members are reading the same book, each member must choose a different shelf for that book.
4. Books need to be 100+ pages to count. If you're already in the middle of a book before the read-a-thon starts, you can count it for this challenge as long as you have at least 100 pages to go.
5. Have fun! This challenge is about reading more, working together, and having a good time. Lets keep the easy-going, helpful, considerate vibe our group is well known for along with the spirit of competition. :)
Moderators will be here all week to read for their teams, answer questions, and clarify any confusion.
If you're not familiar with where to find the book shelves for your Goodreads books, there is a link to "top shelves" listed below the genres on the right column of the page. See the screenshots below:
Tips
· Look at the shelves for the books you're most likely to read during the read-a-thon and let your team know what possible shelves you could fill.
· If you're looking for a specific book to fit a specific shelf you can use the genre search bar to search for specific shelves by name. It will display results for the books most popularly assigned to that shelf. You can also click the links provided for each shelf to go directly to that shelf's popular books page. NOTE: You still need to double check the first page of top shelves for any books you find there to make sure it qualifies.
