Well, the daily games have turned out to be every other day-ly, but hey, that gives you more time to read!

As a monarch, you have the power of decrees. How will you use that to answer the following questions?

**Update** If you have more than one to nominate in a category, that is ok!

1. What book would you decree that everyone in your kingdom read?
2. What book would you drown in the moat?
3. What author would you give a knighthood ("damehood"?) to?
4. What author would you lock up in a dungeon?
5. What book was as hard for you to get through as a slog through a swamp?
6. What book had the treasure of a surprise ending?
7. What book took you on a journey?
8. What book taught you an important lesson?
9. What book made you feel you had entered a magic kingdom?
10. If a genie or fairy appeared right now and offered you any one book you wish for, what would it be?

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments As a monarch, you have the power of decrees. How will you use that to answer the following questions?

1. What book would you decree that everyone in your kingdom read?
Yikes! Only one? LOL 😁 Since I'll be seeing him live on October 5, Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption. But also Ibram Kendi's How to Be an Antiracist and Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.

Lighter reading: Erica Bauermeister's The School of Essential Ingredients, Garth Stein's The Art of Racing in the Rain, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, and the Little Women series.

2. What book would you drown in the moat?
One Hundred Years of Solitude and Curva Peligrosa! Two recent DNFs.

3. What author would you give a knighthood ("damehood"?) to?
Only one? Ugh. Okay. Knighthood to Alexander McCall Smith. Damehood for Mary Robinette Kowal.

4. What author would you lock up in a dungeon?
Gabriel García Márquez

5. What book was as hard for you to get through as a slog through a swamp?
Two immediately come to mind: My Best Friend's Exorcism and Chronicle of a Death Foretold

6. What book had the treasure of a surprise ending?
Two of my more recent reads:
(1) Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions
Though I didn't enjoy this one all that much, the ending was a surprise and did improve it for me!
(2) The Age of Innocence
While I enjoyed Wharton's writing and will definitely read more of her books, the lives and hypocrisy of these elitists grew very tiresome for me. But the ending was quite a surprise which helped me enjoy the book even more.

7. What book took you on a journey?
The Third Angel was quite a ride! Very enjoyable with quite intricately interwoven story lines.

8. What book taught you an important lesson?
I adored Elsewhere, Home for depicting many different aspects of the immigrant experience. It is never easy for a person to feel marginalized in both their adoptive culture/society and also in their home country! We need to be more aware and more welcoming to all!
And again, The Third Angel--Random acts of kindness can be so very important to another person's life...you might even save their life!

9. What book made you feel you had entered a magic kingdom?
Skyward (Skyward Series #1) by Brandon Sanderson, A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab--reading the second installment now, Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor--I own the second installment which I hope to read yet this year, Nnedi Okorafor's Binti series, and Song of Blood & Stone (Earthsinger Chronicles #1) by L. Penelope--I own the second installment and hope to read it yet this year.

10. If a genie or fairy appeared right now and offered you any one book you wish for, what would it be?
A copy of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue so I can join in the Popsugar September Monthly group read discussion! Plus I love V.E. Schwab's books I've read thus far.

Kendra | 2079 comments There's a lot going on this week so every other day is just fine. Thankyou for all you've been doing!

1. What book would you decree that everyone in your kingdom read?
Persuasion by Jane Austen. If I have to pick my absolute favorite book this is it. If I have to pick second place, I have about 50 books that tie for the position.

2. What book would you drown in the moat?
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. I was forced to read this for a Canadian Lit class. How did this ever get declared a classic?????

3. What author would you give a knighthood ("damehood"?) to?
Seanan McGuire, Kelley Armstrong, Ilona Andrews & Fredrik Backman - I made myself pick one and only one answer for the previous questions. I just couldn't do it with this one. And I still left off a bunch of authors I also love.

4. What author would you lock up in a dungeon?
Gregory Maguire

5. What book was as hard for you to get through as a slog through a swamp?
Allegiant

6. What book had the treasure of a surprise ending?
Beartown. I love how Fredrik Backman can tell you what is going to happen, and still surprise you with what actually happens.

7. What book took you on a journey?
They all do, but most recently The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.

8. What book taught you an important lesson?
21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act: Helping Canadians Make Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples a Reality

9. What book made you feel you had entered a magic kingdom?
All Systems Red

10. If a genie or fairy appeared right now and offered you any one book you wish for, what would it be?
The Innkeeper Chronicles, Volume 1

7. What book took you on a journey? The Arrival, a graphic novel with no words that follows an immigrant from his home and family to his new home. All his fears and everything that is new are portrayed as monsters and spirits so you can feel his confusion and fear. It's quite emotional.

8. What book taught you an important lesson? The Secret Garden, find your own happy place and only let the most deserving in to it.

9. What book made you feel you had entered a magic kingdom? The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

10. If a genie or fairy appeared right now and offered you any one book you wish for, what would it be?

**Since this is for fun, if you have multiple answers for the questions, that's just fine! Feel free to share as many as you want. It's amusing to see which people always follow the rules ("it says one, so I can only do one") and which go their own way ("hey, I have 2 or 3 and I'm putting them all in!")

I've updated the challenge above and if anyone wants to go back and add to their answer, go for it!
