Time for Halo...

Thinking about taking a break though and go back to Demon's Souls. Had restarted it at the weekend with half a plan to attempt it as a magic focused character.

Hi guys
Dat moment when i just bought a Series S and found an X available and delivered in 2-3 days...

You can always have two X boxes or sell your S Glass ;-)
I spent quite a bit of time on Infinite over the weekend. On the sixth campaign mission (think there are 15 campaign missions overall). I spent most of my time however exploring ignoring the campaign and getting lost in the world. I've pretty much fully explored two maps - think there look to be 4/5 maps in total - and the maps aren't disconnected they just open up as you progress the campaign. So really it's one big map with islands you can hop between over bridges. TBH the open world aspect is nothing new - you have Forward Operating Bases, Strongholds to clear and they are good fun because the core game play FPS action is superb. The best thing of the open world is the fact you can go pretty much anywhere. If you see a mountain on the map and think it looks inaccessible - think again, you can get up with your grapple hook, explore, find unlocks, enemy to fight, and easter eggs. The infiinte map is one of the most explorable maps I've played. Plus you'll find for some collectables it will take you inside caves where you have to earn the unlock. The open world is really well done if nothing new - the ability to explore anywhere is the best part for me. The campaign is good too - the campaign tends to be a little more linear (typical Halo) but some parts are in the open world too - a good mix. The bosses are a good challenge but on normal doable if sometimes a little tricky. Really enjoying it overall. Probably my game of the year - tight between this and Forza Horizon 5.

Finished Evil Genius on hard and yeah it wasn't too difficult, though complacency set in before the end that I almost regretted. Didn't bother with too much preparation for the final phase but managed to scrape through. Definitely time for a break from it though before I go searching for the other trophies - I still reckon I have at least 30-40 hours left, so don't want to make myself sick of it.
Played a wee bit more of Demon's Souls and quite like playing as a magic caster, probably helped that the phalanx and tower knight are so slow. Strangely feelin a bit OP at the minute but know that'll change quickly and not sure how I'll cope against a faster boss.

Hey Deck.
Im super happy with mine.
Its an upgrade going from a Ps4 pro to the S for sure.
Im using it to play old games, exclusives and those that i´ll not be playing in my Pro.
Currently im playing Fallout 3 and i´ll do GTAIV next.
As as secondary (and sometimes primary) console is perfect, tbh.
I just started Act III (third character) in We Happy Few.
There´s two wys to play this game, imo. One that works and one that doenst.
If you play it like a normal rpg and doing all the side quests it can get boring as the world is not varied and alive enough to sustain it.
But from the moment that i started ignoring side quests and just followed the main story the game became a much better experience and the pacing became "right".
If this final Act doenst get ruined this is actually a pretty good game.

Double crap, you can't upgrade catalysts apart from using one of the boss souls? Got a long road ahead of me ;)

I see Sniper Elite 5 has been announced for release next year. Sniper Elite is my guilty pleasure - one of my favourite game series. What with SE5 and Alan Wake 2 a lot of my gaming wishes have been answered. All we need now is Resistance and Killzone back - not so hopeful on these.

That reminds me we need to make our Goty awards.
Who will be the victim this year? Any volunteers?
Who will be the victim this year? Any volunteers?
We always have both.
I can hardly vote on any games released in the current year cause i always play games with a 3 year gap. I need the other voting. :P

haha.
I wait at least 1 year on purpose to play a game.
I´ll get it way cheaper with most of the bugs fullly patched.
Although i know games are released in worst states year by year, i cant personally say i´ve been afected by the problem.
By the time i get to play any game its usually in its finished state so i get to play the best version at the cheapest price. The longer i wait the best actually.

As souls bosses go, my first impression of it was he's definitely one of the weaker ones (I still managed to lose though). I think if I'd been my usual melee build I'd have trounced him. Once I had to resort to melee as a mage type, I realised the pointlessness of carrying a shield. With my current stamina even old leechy, who wasn't hitting particularly hard, drained it all in one hit. So by the time I'd recovered from the stun animation, I'd taken as much damage as I would have just taking the first hit.
The magic I did have was damaging him quicker than he could regen, even from the top platform, so I'm wondering if I can beat him from there if I go in prepared. There's probably a reason it'll not be possible but that's my plan. Also picked up a semi-decent sword that scales with magic, so I don't see him being a hassle.
But yeah, the three bosses (I guess technically they are sub bosses) I've fought so far have been relatively toothless compared to some/most in the souls games

I could be wrong as I can't remember where the story went after 3, but was it not the boredom of playing everybody's gone to the rapture that corrupted Cortana?

After that had a wander around rolly-polly land (yeah I'm crap with names) and found a massive demon that confused me a little. I don't know whether he was just a diversion for the flying manta things, he was an npc, he'd lost the will to live, was a masochist, he was intimidated by my mages greatness or more likely was glitched, but he just sat there and let me hurl fireball after fireball till he was no more. Normally I'd say definite glitch and I'm pretty sure he'd have told me where to stick my catalyst if he was an npc but you never know with From.
Oh and I reinstalled Far Cry 6 simply because there's a couple of free missions with Danny "you just fucked with the wrong Mexican" Trejo

I glad you Demon's Souls run is working out alright Deckard. There are really only a few sticking points in that game, and they can be cheesed if you struggle.

Am sorely tempted to spend the full price for Halo, as you can get it on the One as well. I'm strictly Campaign but it sounds really, really good ....
Edit: I'm the one in the wingsuit, BTW, not the pelican

and the other ping was My Name is Mayo 2...….
Played a wee bit more of Demon's Souls too and I've no idea how people manage to play this without levelling up. By the time I'd made it most of the way across the swamp, I'd used most of my healing items and didn't notice the big guy with the club while killing his little brothers, so promptly got one-shotted. Definitely think I need to stick some points in other stats before attempting it again. Wandered around the mine instead and beat the spider sub boss easily, though I think they'd be more of a pain if I was melee based.
And may have hawed a Series S......

Also came to my senses and cancelled the Series S order, I can wait

Finished We Happy Few.
It has its flaws but overall it was well worth playing.
From the moment i started to ignore all the side quests and follow the main story the pace of the game became a lot better.
They world they created is very interesting and very dark if you start thinking beyond the obvious.
you play 3 chapters each with one character and all of them are very diferent and with their unique twists and mechanics. You´re not just replaying the previous game with a diferent character.
The survival aspects and really not that impactfull because, by the end of each character, i had a zillion items to use because i was saving them for a better time.
I think this is a 7,5 out of 10 game but at times its an 8 for sure.
Not sure what to play now.
Probably The Surge or RE Village.

As long as they do delivery (and to the right place for once), I'll not complain too much. Playing Forza Horizon and Halo over xmas doesn't sound bad. I do think it could probably be a case of a series s is for xmas, not for life though. One month of game pass, then forgotten

I set up the Series S, not managed to play anything yet to really comment but what I will say is they were pretty stingy with the HDD. I've started to install Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite and half the space has gone already. And Game Pass - there looks like there's a bit more on there than when I last looked on the Xbone though half I'm interested in playing are ones I've played before (like DA: O, Dead Space, Fable, Quantum Break, Dante's Inferno, FF XIII). Like the sound of Gears Tactics though but Forza is up first

I just downloaded Firewatch. It happened to pop up on Game Pass and I've always been interested. I figure that a shorter adventure like that will be a nice transition after a hundred or so hours of Dragon Age.
Firewatch is a cracking experience. I really enjoyed it.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas. As usual I drank and ate too much, still am.
Anyway, Completed Halo Infinite. Really enjoyed it. A return to form. The campaign is very much like the older Halos on the whole. The atmosphere, aesthetics, music, level design all very Halo 1-3. The campaign is mainly, albeit not always, a linear experience. The open world part though added a new dimension. Being able to go anywhere with the grapple hook, and as the game progresses fly anywhere too. Plus the grapple is a really good fight mechanic addition. The ammo stations add a new dimension to it, freeing up weapon choice a bit more. Really worth investigating every Spartan Core as you really explore some great areas hidden away. Loved it. Probably my game of the year. And some really good boss fights.
Since I’ve moved onto Far Cry 6. Played probably 8 hours but really enjoying it. So good to be back on a tropical island as opposed to the boring map of Far Cry 5. Graphics are good on Series X, well the outdoor jungle-type areas. The map is massive. Anyway good Far Cry fun so far. The only thing I don’t like is the need for different ammo types. Takes away from the fun having to think about what ammo to use, which you can’t change on the fly so you’re stuck with your choice until you get to a work bench.

Also...I'm now knee deep in Dragon Age II. I couldn't help myself.
Hi Everyone
Merry xmas to all.
Hope you had nice evening.
Im playing Spider Man and initially i was not very excited but the game is winning me over.

Eyeing up a 2tb external HD quickfast!
Have only really bought it for its 4K blu-ray capability and games wise the Forza Horizon games (FH3 onwards) and will pick up Resi Village, Crysis Trilogy, Alan Wake Remastered, and some old 360 games at some point (Dead Space 1&2, RDR1, Fuel, Prey). No interest in GamesPass/Gold etc.
Very nice unit though! Still getting to grips with how it all works.
Morning all
Nothing beats hawing a new console!
I need to share my pain with you guys,
I went to the shopping mall last week to buy xmas gifts and all that and went to a big tech store, looked at a shelve and...saw a Xbox X just there staring at me.
I was with my Mrs and i tried to start the indocrination but she gave me dat look and i lost my will power.
After spending nearly 500 eur on the S and the ssd drive i think i would also be getting a marriage crisis. :(

I think I'm getting close to being able to snag a Series X myself. They were available at the Best Buy nearest me a few days ago. Unfortunately, they didn't offer shipping and "closest to me" is still a 90 minute drive. Still, it's encouraging. As soon as I spot one it the wild it will be mine!
Dragon Age 2 is a much more limited experience than Origins. Characters and voice acting are still great of course, but something is just off with the world building. Probably because it basically takes place in one city the entire time. It's still fantastic fun though. I'm around halfway through and will definitely be finishing it.

Demon's Souls
Rift Apart
Miles Morales
House of Ashes
Death Stranding
No Man's Sky
Hitman 3
and that's just physical discs.
I did platinum Rift Apart though.

Finished FC6, as you know (you can change ammo types through the weapon wheel) and started Dishonoured. I played Dishonoured 2 and really enjoyed it, but I'm finding Dishonoured 1 a bit boring. My brother assures me it gets better but I'm struggling to have any interest in the game at all.
Thought about getting Halo Infinite, but, as well as having to download the campaign as it's not on the disc, I'm worried that I won't be able to play the campaign should my Xbox live sub ever go. One of my subs will have to disappear once I retire and it will be the PS one I keep as that's my main console. My plan is to replay games once I am no longer gainfully employed and if I can't play Infinite campaign without a sub, then not sure I'll bother paying the money. I might wait until I can get a reasonably cheap second hand one.
Anyhoo, it's not like I don't have a huge backlog of unopened games to play, so I doubt I'll get bored without Infinite!
Happy new year everyone!
Hope you had a great time these last days.
I shamefully started the year by hawing...Cyberpunk 2077.
It was on sale for 20 bucks , i have a Ps4 Pro and its heavily patched so i cracked and hawed it.
Adam is giving me a hard time since then.
I could have bought it for the series S which would surely run better but it was 35 eur and i was not paying more then the 24 eur that was on the Ps store.
I´ve been having a blast with Spider Man too. Such a great game it is.

Hi AlienGirl. I can’t seem to change ammo type in the weapon wheel. Was this something you unlocked? All I can change is fire mode.
If you buy/own halo Infinite you won’t need gold or ultimate to download and play the campaign. I’ve played it through Ultimate but I might buy the game further down the line in a sale.
When do you retire by the way, do have you planned a date? I bet you can’t wait.

I was sure I could change ammo type, but then I remember that I nearly always used armor piercing, which was done at the workbench, so I think now you might be right, it was just the fire mode that can be changed from the weapon wheel. Sorry about that! I always used armor piercing cos it pretty much covered every eventuality that I might come across. I'm quite lazy when it comes to changing fire mode/ammo/guns - I usually just can't be bothered! As long as I have a sniper, assault and short range (either powerful pistol or shotgun) then I'm a happy gal. in fact, the only supremo I ever used was the first one I got, never saw the point in the other ones.
Retirement's not for a few years yet (unless some extremely kind and generous person gives me a fairly large sum of money) but I'm the kind who thinks ahead a lot! And I absolutely cannot wait!
Thanks for the note on Infinite - looks like that may well go back on my list then!
