I agree we are in unknown territory when it comes to Game Pass. As someone who almost always waits to purchase a game until it is dirt cheap, the devs aren't losing much from me. I do think that Game Pass gives some small or first time devs the ability to get some exposure and enough assured success to pursue followup projects. I just saw that Eastshade Studios' next game is a magic school sim where music is the magic. Freedom to explore ideas like that seems like a win for gaming. I'm sure there is a major darkside to all of this as well, but it is not yet clear to me, and I'm happy I'm invested in the Xbox ecosystem already.
No gaming in several days. Maybe by the weekend. Otherwise I might have to go out and get some fresh, frigid mountain air.

As for buying up all these studios? Hard to say the end game plan for it all but if/after the latest takeover of Acti is approved (12-18 months), it’s being estimated to move MS ahead of Nintendo and put them in 3rd (I think it will actually put them in 2nd), behind Tencent (2nd) and Sony (1st).

I gave up on Dishonored. Got the red screen of death glitch in 1. Started Death of the Outside but hated the mechanics and the new "powers" so that got binned too.
Started Jedi Fallen Order, tho I didn't really fancy it, but OMG I love it! Just my kind of game. Was worried about all the travelling (no fast travel) but don't care. I'm having so much fun finding all the nooks and crannies. I can see I'm going to be playing this for hours and hours LOL

Yea good game Jedi Fallen Order. Some really good areas with lots of variety and platforming. Good combat too - not perfect but enjoyable. Great if you like exploring and really pulls you into a world.

I think its a great game for the same reason i also think Spider Man is great.
They´re games that dont do anything new but they are very well crafted to make the player have a good time. Maybe not for everyone but for a gamer like me i love these sp experiencies that we get what we paid for.
No live services or mt bs. Just a good story and a good experience.

Yea. To be honest the SW side of it doesn't really factor very much at all for me. Actually in a lot of games that's the case for me too. I mean it does give a SW experience but can't say it's the reason I enjoyed it so much. As long as the game pulls me in then it's doing something right. Of course you get used to a franchise and want more of the same so you expect certain type of stories, characters and world/universe to explore as well as game play - Mass Effect, Fallout come to mind, Halo, TLOU etc etc. Once you love a universe you don't want them to stray away too much. Jedi was the first in probably a series so it's set its own path now.

Trying to figure the map was definitely not a good time ;) And don't get me started on the ponchos
It's definitely not a bad game but calling it great is just a bit of stretch imo. In a few years time, when you think about your top 50 or 100 games will you even remember it?

Still the exploration is the bit I'm enjoying - I love it when I can say to myself "what's that over there" and go and actually find out.

To me its one of the great games i played in the last years.
I have a diferent aproach to games then probably most gamers.
I truly dont care much about the technical details of a game.
As long as the game manages to pull me into its story and world i can have a great time.
My "rate" on a game has mostly to do with how immersive they are to me.
Deadly Premonition is a great game to me and its a proper mess. But i loved the experience so to me its a great game.
Fallen Order is the same. I had a royal blast the whole game and everyday i felt the urge to go back to play it.
If it did that to me then its a great game in my own rating.
That´s the best i can explain it.

One of the great games for me over the past few years is Doki Doki Literature Club Plus. It's starts off with a warning it's not for children or those easily disturbed, and for most of the first act you are wondering why? By the end you definitely know why ;) It's not one that anyone would praise for technical aspects, there's little to no gameplay (which is usually my barometer), yet because it did thing's I didn't expect and genuinely surprised me on occasions, I loved it. That choice of game probably says it all ;)
A lot of third person adventure games (and to be fair most so do other games that are in similar genres) can be a bit to samey for me. If they don't do anything to stand out I can't call them anything but average
Think I’m the same as Glass. Immersion is the biggest draw for me to a game. It can even have a few technical issues but as long as it’s immersive and fun that’s enough for me. Great game play of course is up there too. I mean I wouldn’t say Fallout has the best game play mechanics, different for sure, but the world, story etc amazing. Think it’s why I like games such as Alan Wake and Batman Arkham Asylum so much too - the immersion. Control too. Although Control for me is technically excellent too. I really liked the Fallen Order world, no issues for me except maybe the back tracking but I was ok with it.

Well yea you need gameplay to be fun too but it doesn't have to best in class for me to really enjoy the game. Like I said Fallout doesn't exactly have great mechanics but it's good enough to be fun, and then the real draw for me, and probably many others, is the world, story, characters, mission structure. As an FPS it is medicore, and the VATs system albeit novel isn't exactly a smooth experience - in some ways it doesn't help immersion but again I can forgive because it's such a great game otherwise. I wouldn't disagree with anything else you say but most of that I find is optional a lot of the time. And if a game has busy work then it's probably not for me. I straight line most games as to me that's my main draw. Side missions can be good but quite often they're busy work.

Thats exaclty the thing Deck
If you find hard to get immersed into a game for whatever reason, then its not immersive enough, therefore its not a great game and maybe not even good.
Immersion to me is a mix of many aspects that make a game.
Tlou2 for example. The reason why i i didnt like it that much is because the story and pace genuinely annoyed me enough to break my immersion in many parts of the game.
If it didnt, it could have whatever story they could come up with and i would think it was a great game for sure because it nailed almost everything.
Andromeda (haha) was a game that i really enjoyed because, despite all of its flaws i felt really immersed the whole gameplay.
But in the end, immersion is very subjective and it even depends on the particular state of mind a player is in at the time he´s playing a specific game.
Edit: i love so much to piss you off with Andromeda! haha

It's definitely subjective. I loved TLOU2 because of its immersion and pacing - but it had some bad sections like a scripted boss fight where the outcome was set in stone and the ellie/abby sneaking around a room boss fight which IMO was awful. Again not enough to ruin it for me. I really liked TLOU but I found it to be less immersive due to things that brought me out of the game such as NPCs wandering in front of enemy and not even being noticed. Plus game play mechanics in TLOU (and 2) are run of the mill and probably done better in other similar games. TLOU game play is nothing new. Actually with Fallen Order the combat isn't best in class - although it wasn't bad IMO - but I've played games with better fighting mechanics. The parry system sucked in my opinion but again wasn't enough to ruin the game for me.

And I've said it a million times - if it was a game by a lesser developer and wasn't called Mass Effect, it would still have been a bit on the bland side but playable. But it wasn't and compared to what came before, it surely can't be considered anything but a huge disappointment. A proper game in the ME franchise could easily have been a contender for a game of the gen for me, instead EA gave us tripe ;)
Here we go again lol

- is a mediocre souls-like
- terrible map (backtracking)
- lets you customize your lightsaber
- is the best Star Wars game since Knights of the Old Republic 8/10
Call me juvenile, but I was endlessly amused traveling around the galaxy wearing a pink poncho and besting baddies with my pink lightsaber. Seemed like what Cal would do.
Having just finished Mass Effect again, I can't help but feel that Andromeda is just a more personalized adventure in the Mass Effect universe. You may never get there Deck, but it really is a great space RPG.
I just downloaded Death's Door (stabby crow game) and plan to give that a try this weekend to see if I can get back to enjoying games.

Thinking about playing through the Metro games again. Went to play the PS5 version of Exodus the other day and, think I've said this before, got a similar feeling (though nowhere near as bad) to how I feel about Andromeda. It's lost so much of the atmosphere that made the first 2 games great that it almost feels like a different franchise. Solid game and enjoyed it well enough but it's another that I was a little disappointed with last gen
I love the Metro games but also really liked Exodus. I don't think it lost any of its atmosphere. Being out at night in the dark with a mysterious orb hovering around not knowing what it was going to do was spooky for me at least. It had a good mix of open world and linear for me - similar to a modern Tomb Raider in world presentation. I do plan to replay it one day - maybe.
Anyway. Completed Far Cry 6 over the weekend. For me the best Far Cry since Far Cry 3. None of this annoying super natural stuff, the map was beautiful to explore and the campaign at the very least good enough without being amazing. The engine needs to be updated for next gen really but a minor quibble. The 'vegetation' areas looked good but characters, buildings, man made objects in the environment very much looked last gen. I enjoyed it though. 8/10 on the r-score-o-meter. I took Sunday off gaming as I was hung over from a night out but I plan to play Aliens Fireteam Elite next, followed by Mass Effect 1.

Hi guys
I´ve been replaying the first Metro lately and its still a great game.
I love the atmosphere.
Of all the three Last Light was my least favourite tbh. There was something "off" about it when i played it.
Exodus was very good and, although it had a diferent vibe im sure if it had been just like the other two games people would complaint of being more of the same.
Btw, anyone excited for Dying Light 2?
ACG released a video about it and it had some pretty positive vibes on it.

No Dying Light for me. If it comes on Games pass one day I might give it a go but not one I'll purchase at the moment as it's not hitting any of my 'I must play this buttons.'. I do fancy Resident Evil Village though at some point - so might give that a go. Resi 7 was/is on games pass so I have hopes Village will be on GP one day.

Yeah, 04/02 i think.
I really want to play it but the first DL was both amazing and depressing at the same time.
I remember when i finally finished it i said to the tv "You were a great game. I had an amazing time but i will never want to see you again" lol
I just coulndt handle the nights in the game.

Yea there something to be said about games that have a really very dark tense atmosphere. I love a game with a dark atmosphere but at the same time they do feel a bit oppresive and maybe a little stressful if they are very tense. That's why normally Resident Evil games don't appeal - although Resi 8 looks really good. To be stuck in some spooky house, little ammo, being followed by some creature in a tight corridor with the lights off and only a torch for light - kinda mixed how I feel about it. Love-and-hate it at the same time.

Yeah. I do love a good horror game but when i play one i always end up saying to myself "what am i doing with my life??"
But i cant deny that they are one of my favourite type of games. Nothing beats a good horror game when it comes to immersion.

I think games such as Alan Wake, Metro, Dead Space, TLOU, Control are my limit of dark atmosphere - but also all of them in my favourite games of all time.

Morning all
Still playing Arkham Knight.
Im still enjoying it although not as much as the first and second one.
I think the game is a bit confusing with its menus, gadjets, skills etc.
Its a bit messy and i´ve been struglling to find where to use my skill points which is never a good indicator for a game, imo. Progression should feel natural and exciting.
I also think the city, despite being very well done and visually very appealing is also very confusing to walk around. Since pretty much 90% is cosmetic it can become a mess with all the colors, crazy structures, roads etc.
Driving and figthing with the Batmobile is actually pretty fun but in a brainless kind of way. Sometimes, while having fun in the middle of a battle with 30 drones i ask myself if this is a Arkham game at all.
I think that, although im enjoying the game overall its not being overly exciting to play.
Im going to finish it but i really need to change the type of game after this. I need a more immersive, dark and mature game or a full fledge rpg where exploring a big map is actually exciting.

Yea I've watched a few streams of Resi 8 and it looks to be more up my street more than Resi 7. Resi 7 might be the better game for all I know but I'm not so sure about its setting and being followed around by some monster (from what I can understand).

Made a lot of progress in Death's Door over the weekend. It feels nice to play. It's a well-designed game with a cool aesthetic. These crows reap souls in this kinda surreal and whimsical office setting. It's charming. Made me think of Link To The Past in tone and the way exploration unfolds. Combat is simple but offers some variety in weapons and enemies. There are a couple spells/gadgets you pick up along the way that open new paths/secrets/etc. Hopefully I'll finish it up by the end of the week.

Resi 8 doesn't have the controls of Resi 4 though does it? I tried Resi 4 but two things for me meant I couldn't get to grips with it. The controls for me - I played many years after release - just didn't compute with my brain, and the lack of ammo. The lack of ammo I know is part of Resi but I'm hoping Resi 8 is a bit more forgiving.

The last horror game that really broke me was Alien Isolation.
By the time i finished i was completely mentally exhausted.

I dont know about the controls but i would say its similar to Resi 7 as its also in first person.
As for the ammo, as much as i hate to go against you i do hope there is lack of ammo. lol.
Its the only way to bring the true survival horror feel.
Not knowing if you should risk wasting those precious 4 bullets is what makes Resi Resi, imo.

Resi 8 plays more like a FPS and ammo wise you shouldn't have a problem, between crafting, pick ups and a shop, ammo isn't too hard to come by.
Kind of tempted by a 2nd playthrough myself now

This is why I don't play Resi games :-). I know it's fundamental to the experience but it's just not my bag scraping around for every last bullet otherwise the experience is a good deal more frustrating. The earlier Metro games were a little like this too but not quite as bad and then for the later MEtro games they gave the option of a more resource friendly experience. I was hoping Resi was going to be the same - looking at what Decky said Resi 8 doesn't seem to have the same scarcity of ammo as 4. Hopefully :-).

Well, truth be said, when i play a Resi game i always end up with a warehouse full of ammo crates due to how conservative i am on using them. lol

I think there's a PS5 version of Uncharted 4 out in the next few days. I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise, in fact they are probably the most overrated games I can think of, but might pay the tenner and replay it

Anyway, would Diablo II still be a decent experience solo for someone who has never played before?

Cool.
I´ll haw it.
Never played a Tales game before.
After finishing Arkkham Knight i´ll go for a proper rpg. Its time.
