DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off Dying Light 2. Definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Has it's flaws and doesn't do anything we've not seen before but still a lot of fun.

Not sure about moving on to Sifu now. I've beaten the first boss but not making a lot of progress after that. I do like it but it's a bit on the tough side and I'm not sure I've the patience level at the minute to play it properly. Think it's going to be one of those games I like but the feeling isn't mutual.

So now I've no idea what to play, which is always irritating.

Well done Deck

So, you recomend it for the likes of me?
How is the night in DL2? Is it scary as the first game?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've a feeling you might be a bit disappointed in it Glass. It's not scary in the slightest and night time isn't half as tense. It's more fun than frightening.

Then again it took you who know how long to leave that safe room in RE2 so you might be fine ;)

Not sure what to play next, but might have a go at A Plague Tale

Well done AG.
I enjoyed A Plague Tale.
It has its frustrating moments but overall is a good adventure with a great setting.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments A Plague Tale was pretty dull IMO, starts off mildly interesting before it causes you to become narcoleptic

Had a look at the Xbox store and game pass to see if there was anything to catch my eye and something did..... but not in a good way - how are they still charging £80 for a Skyrim/Fallout 4 bundle lol. Kind of tempted to give R6 Extraction a go, wouldn't pay for it (unless dirt cheap) but may keep me busy for another 5 minutes

What i enjoyed about Plague Tale was how often it reminded me of the Thief games. Specially Thief 2.
If the game had a bit more focus on real stealth it would benefit quite a bit, imo.

Hi all. Played some more Mass Effect 1. Played a good 6 hours. It's definitely not aged well. It's very much of its time. I'll complete it but I'm not too fussed about playing ME2 or ME3. Perhaps ME2 has aged better. It's still got a great cast, story and artwork but just lacks as the worlds are sparse and the combat feels like it's aged. Plus navigation is horrible.

I also played some Crossfire X multiplayer. Boy it's bad. They've decided to make it no ADS, no sprint like Counterstrike. The shooting mechanics generally feel bad and movement is like walking on ice. Saying that it's kinda fun - it's relentless, fast paced, spray and pay and hope for the best. It has no longevity but it's fun for a few hours. After the weekend I'll probably bin it off, but for now it's a bit of fun.

BTW. I too really enjoyed A Plague's Tale. It has some sticky moments with difficulty but otherwise it's a very well crafted game. Kinda feels like a Sony game to me in production values.

Error | 408 comments Just FYI - I really enjoyed my replay of Mass Effect Last Month. Once it got going it felt wonderful to me. Dated yes, but great. Just like Dragon Age. I recently started 2 and created my character, who is somehow uglier than the "me" I created for the first game. I know it is silly but the way my created character appears in cut scenes is turning me off from the whole game.

Might try to see if Scarlet Nexus or Evil Within 2 can hold my attention the next few days.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I thought ME1 held up well, it was just as good as I remembered it.

Spent most of the weekend (literally) playing Diablo 2. Downloaded R6 Extraction on the Series S on Friday and forgot all about it, as I'm addicted again.

Morning all. Played some more Crossfire X. Actually I got it wrong. It has both a classic mode and modern mode. Classic is no ADS, no sprinting, whereas Modern has ADS and sprinting. I actually quite enjoyed both albeit the shooting mechanics aren't quite as good as something like COD or Battlefield. Also played more ME1 and I still think it's definitely very much showing its age. It's a good game, an all-time classic, and the level of detail in the characters, world and story is still up there compared to modern RPGs but game play feels old school. No bad thing just that game has aged. Still one of my favourite games ever.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Horizon Forbidden West out on Friday but I'm not sure if I want to pick it up day one. If it were £20 cheaper I'd probably crack but £70 for a game I'll probably think is just OK and with quite a few other games I'm more interested in just around the corner, I'm in no hurry for it, so I'm leaning strongly towards wait. Then again dat new game itch....

Think I'll haw a cheap game or two to play alongside Diablo 2, that should hopefully scratch it

Morning all

My gaming has been a little weird lately.
I think i´m in one of those phases of burn out.
I´ve been having a hard time to mantain my excitment on games after that initial rush.
Although im enjoying qute a bit Greedfall, in the last 3 or 4 days i felt like i was playing in auto-mode just like i felt in Arkham Knight.
I think im just tired of work and since i play only when i go to bed my brain is asking for a little break (which of course im not doing lol).
This is specially agravating when playing open world games where i can lose myself 2 or 3 hrs exploring and not progressing the story.
Hope this goes away.

Yea I go through gaming funks too from time to time. Think I'm going through one at the moment. Sometimes I move from game to game like it's a job when sometimes I need to take a break and feel a bit more enthusiastic about the next game I play. After I complete ME1 - I'm near the end now - I'm taking a break too and I'm only going to play multiplayer for a few weeks.

Thats exactly how i´ve been feeling.
Deep inside i know that the game i really really wanted and probably should have started was Resi Village but i chickened out and didnt want to feel stressed every night.
Sometimes a good horror game is great to get the blood pumping and remind us why we love gaming so much.

AlienGirl54 | 46 comments Gave up on Plague Tale. The mechanics annoyed me and I got fed up walking sideways into walls. Plus, I'm useless with the sling, even with aim assist.

Error | 408 comments I'm also feeling a bit burned out, and kind of just biding my time until Elden Ring comes out. With that in mind, I did play a couple of short ones over the past few days.

Procession to Calvary - Probably the most absurd and irreverent game I've ever played. It's a point and click adventure where all of the assets are created from classical paintings. Probably a better term than that, but all like 1400 - 1600 era. Anyway, I laughed out loud repeatedly at the dialogue options and writing. Best to keep the plot a surprise unless you need a trigger warning about religious satire and some more "avant garde" sexual situations. Basically nothing is sacred and everything is hilarious. 8.5.10 Might have taken 2.5 hours with the first run lasting about 15 minutes.

The Artful Escape - Hold right and X for 3 hours as you run through psychedelic environments. Silly, silly musical coming-of-age tale that pretty much failed at every turn for me. 5.5/10.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments "Not that you need any more games"

That combination of words is nonsensical to me, there's always room for one or 5 more ;)

£50 for Horizon 2, I'd be a lot more tempted

Edit: I see the Cyberpunk PS5 update is out, so HFW can wait. Cyberpunk can keep me going to Elden Ring

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'd picked up Cyberpunk 2077 day one but only played a little of the PS4 version as I decided to wait for the free PS5 upgrade. Played a wee bit of the PS5 version last night and have to say Night City is looking the part. Think it could be a case of right game at right time and think it's what I'm in the mood for

I'm tempted at the moment to go for Cyberpunk 2077. It's on my wishlist but I've been holding off for the next gen upgrade. It's £24.99 on the xbox store. Simplygames have it for £14.99 but sold out :-(. Not sure I'm in the mood though for another big game at the moment.

Glassmoon - The Benny Hill of Plats | 779 comments Mod
I cracked for Cyberpunk a last month when i saw it at 20 bucks.
I knew it would be massively updated at least a couple of times later on so i thought that, for that price, it was worth it.
Mind that i have a Pro and not a base Ps4 so i think it would be fine.

I read somewhere that the key is not to play it as an RPG and more as a Far Cry game as it works better with that mindset.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments From what I've played it's more Deus Ex than Far Cry in RPGness. Might sound like a lazy comparison but early on at least that seems like the better fit. As a shooter it's surprisingly solid though. I'm pretty impressed by the PS5 version at least

Thats even better actually as i love the Deus Ex games.
I do want to play it, specially now after the latest update.

Btw, i managed to finish Fallout 3 last week on the Series S.
I dont remember when i started playing but its been a game i played over the weekends and somehow managed to finish it.
I still love this game to death.
Bought the DLC´s cause there´s one that i ended up never playing back in the day. The Pitt if i recall correctly.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments As I said the other day it could be a case of right game at right time but I'm definitely enjoying what I've played of Cyberpunk. I've not touched the story since I hit the city, just been wandering around exploring and doing side quests and all's well. I think the city itself could be the star of the game, I can't think of too many other games that give you that sense of scale.

In general, so far I've found the gameplay solid and the setting is great, so if the story is decent and it doesn't get too repetitive, it could be a good'un.

Glassmoon - The Benny Hill of Plats | 779 comments Mod
Morning all

I booted Cyberpunk just to see if i noticed any change and i can say that the game runs a lot smoother.
I didnt left the garage but i felt that now it handles like a proper FPS.

Still enjoying Greedfall and im slowly getting used to the world and all the mechanics which is when i start to properly have fun with a game.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Have to say I'm loving Cyberpunk. Must have got a bit carried away wandering around the city, as it took almost 20 hours for the Cyberpunk title screen to come up lol. Going to sound like a broken record but the city itself is top notch, can't remember the last game that has had me looking around at the scenery as much.

Having said that, what's the betting I'm on here on Monday commenting on Horizon Forbidden West.....

Completed ME1. I really enjoyed it, especially the last third of the campaign. Yea it’s a little dated now but it’s such an immersive game.

So I’ve downloaded the trial of Cyberpunk 2077 to give it a go to see if I like it. Any recommendations on character class to use? Generally I like my games action, not so much hacking. Ideally I like to have an option of stealth and combat where if stealth goes wrong I’m still powerful enough to shoot my way through. And where is it best to start as I understand you can have different start points in Cyberpunk?

message 1183: by DeckardCain's Sandals (last edited Feb 18, 2022 03:26AM) (new)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments There aren't really specific classes in Cyberpunk, it's more when you level up you choose what you'd like to focus on, like hacking, stealth, combat etc or a mix of them all. And as far as I know, I think the starting choices mainly effect some dialogue choices rather than a significantly different start, if there is a difference it's only likely to be 5-10 minutes and not going to hugely effect gameplay. And you can definitely play as a mix of stealth and combat.

Thanks Deck. I started Cyberpunk. Played over 3 hours. Chose nomad but was soon in Night City. It’s pretty good. Good looking world. Combat is decent, not the best, but pretty good. All a bit confusing at the moment with upgrades etc but enjoying it. Only thing I haven’t liked is something called a Brainstorm. I hope there isn’t many of those. So I think I’m probably going to pull the buy trigger (only playing the trial at the moment). It’s a good game, probably knocking on very good but at the same time not blown away really. Nothing that special or even that next gen about it. Another RPG I’ve seen before but good all the same.

Morning all. Had a good stint over the weekend on Cyberpunk, around 10 hours in. Finally Keanu has arrived and he's been great so far and seems like a major ongoing character. I realised I was mainlining the campaign so it felt a bit linear so I took time out from the campaign and did some side quests so I could get a better feel of immersion and the open world. It's no doubt a very detailed and dense world (in terms of buildings and objects etc). It's not really grabbed me at the mo in the open world sense. I've started a side mission to retrieve cars (which ramped up in difficulty, so I've sidelined until it until I level up) and taking out some bosses scattered around the map. Not bad for side missions. The story though has been excellent. The graphics are amazing on the whole especially indoors but sometimes driving around objects in the distance (cars, buildings) look very soft. Overall though a cracking game. Only a couple of graphical glitchy bugs for me otherwise pretty solid. Only real complaint is lack of cash and sometimes enemy are bullet sponges even on moderate level missions. I can go into a mission with 600-700 ammo and then struggle for ammo later on in the mission - and it won't let me craft ammo mid mission and although there are ammo containers dotted around in a mission there still isn't enough (even after looting dead enemy).

I think Horizon Forbidden West looks like the best next gen show case so far - from what I can tell - albeit still held back a little due to cross-gen titles (PS4). Otherwise this gen for next gen games hasn't really kicked off yet IMO. Games defo look better on Series X but for me my Series X is like a XBox One X with largely the same graphics fidelity but at 60 FPS rather than 30 FPS and much faster load times. If you didn't go mid gen upgrade last gen then yea definitely a big upgrade to Series X/PS5 from XBox 1/PS4. Once games target next gen only is when they'll truly start to look a lot better hopefully. So I don't think you're missing out too much. Funny how I really find 30 FPS games absolutely horrible now - can't stomach them. Like a flicker fest.

Yeah Indeed.
Im stull having fun with my Ps4 Pro.

I felt the same way when i quit PC gaming and embraced consoles. All games felt slugish but then i got used to it.
I think all console games should have a 30 / 60 fps mode for the player to chose as its night and day in terms of gameplay.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments So Horizon Forbidden West (you knew it was coming), it's more of the same surprisingly. I expected them to go with the times and turn it into an 8bit side scroller or farm sim but no it's pretty much identical to Zero Dawn only bigger. I'll let you guys decide if that's a good or bad thing. Kind of like I expected, I'm neither loving it or hating it, for me it's one I'll play and likely never think of again.

I'm about a third of the way through, don't know if I'll have it finished in time for Elden Ring

Im really not that excited for Forbidden West honestly.
I enjoyed the first game but i never felt 100% engaged with it for some reason despite loving the setting.
If i remember correctly, i wanted it to be a bit more rpgish and less of a superficial world, if you know what i mean.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments My main issue with Forbidden West is the developers have gone with the "bigger game world must equal better game" approach. I know it's been said before but they should have the sense to realise there's a limit to the average gamers available time/attention span. Just looking at the map is painful.

It looking like a 100+ hour to do everything and I'm only just over a third of the way through yet open-world fatigue is setting in for me a bit (probably doesn't help that I played Dying Light 2 and Cyberpunk recently).

Yea same here too. I look at game play videos of Horizon Forbidden West and it looks graphically amazing. However, it looks mostly the same as the first and I really got tired of the game play after around 2/3rds of the way through the campaign. I found it monotonous. I think this is more a personal taste thing than it being bad or something. And I agree with Glass the world felt superficial - looked great, but not very engaging. It's a good game but it sits in the very good category for me, not the amazing category. Credit to Guerrilla Games they have poured a lot of love into it.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm going to take a break from it for a bit and play something a bit more linear for the rest of the week. Not a lot wrong with it but yeah looking at how much of the map I still have to uncover, it's a bit too much for me at the minute.

Could be a while before I get back to it if I do though. Elden Ring, Grid Legends and Gran Turismo and I've half an eye on Babylon's Fall, Stranger of Paradise and Monark, all out in the next few weeks and I doubt any of them are particularly small

Glassmoon - The Benny Hill of Plats | 779 comments Mod
Im still enjoying Greedfall.
Its definitly not a AAA game in many aspects. The world feels a bit empty and the cities feel a bit superficial too.
Visually i dont have complaints. The game looks stunning with HDR on.
The rpg elements are quite fine too. Not overly complicated but good enough to keep me leveling up.
There´s one thing that im still not decided if its good or bad. The game doenst shy away to make the player go back and forth to talk to characters in a quest (like it would probablly be in real life in a timewhere there´s no phones or emails). In one hand its good to make the world believable and makes us feel a part of it, but onthe other hand, i have been spending quite a lot of time going to person A, then to person B, then to person C, then going back to person A, only to take him to C, etc etc.
Its definitly a developer´s choice and i dont take it as a fail but sometimes it does get a bit annoying.
Im not sure how far im in the game (still have to talk with one of the representatives in the island) but i´ve done many side quests and im 20+ hrs into.

Honestly, its a good rpg for me to get lost into. A bit like Elex.
It has its flaws but im not overly demanding when a game is fun to play.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I seem to remember that being one of my issues with Greedfall - too much going back and forth.
