How to search for tags
You can look through the list...
1. Under list of genres for your book...click on 'see top shelves'
Tags are basically shelves

OR

2. Go to top of screen...click 'browse' -> 'All Genres' -> (type genre name to find genre by name...example 'whale')-> 'whale books' will pop up...-> more 'whale books'
This gives you a sample of books tagged with whale and shows how many readers have 'tagged' it 'whale' ( use this link Genre Search)

Note option 2 is NOT complete...but if you are looking for a book it's faster than randomly hunting

3. To check for a specific genre in a specific book. Note this doesn't always work as the app times out if the file is too big.
*At the main page for your book go to the list of Genres on the right side...Example let's do this with the book Repeat
*You'll see the list 'Romance' has 272 users. Click on '272 users'
*Go to your browser...you'll see dialogue that ends in: 'repeat?shelf=romance'
*delete 'romance' and replace it with the genre you want to search for...try 'heat'
*you should see that one person tagged this book for 'heat'

4. Ask for a recommendation from your teammates :)

message 9: by Tammie (last edited Jun 06, 2020 09:52AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Hi all! Looking forward to another great Wheel adventure!

I've done this challenge several times. It's fun!
My husband and I are empty nesters...I'm a Realtor so my schedule is dependent on my clients.

I love to read just about anything...but my go to is generally romance with any genre type. I don't consider myself a non-fiction reader, but those are some of my favorites.

I don't really have a favorite author anymore, but my recent favs include L.J. Shen, J.R. Ward, Kristen Painter and Kelly Hunter. I love talking books and sharing ... hoping a few of you do as well!

Not sure if Donna will be chiming in soon...she's playing Quidditch this weekend and I know that's super intense. We can spend these next days talking strategy and answer each other's questions if you have them...

Triathlete_Reads | 64 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Catherine, it's my second wheel and I'm already excited. I really need to tackle that tbr pile that just doesn't end. I hope I can read a couple of them during those few weeks.

I'm a student currently on a medical break so I have a lot of time on my plate for now. (I'll just need to spend it wisely!)

My favorite book genre is any book with queer themes/characters, I read fiction and non-fiction. I am currently reading an historical fiction: Under the Udala Trees.

Donna (dkflynn33) | 2715 comments Hi everyone! I am taking a small break during the Quidditch match. Wheel is one of favorite challenges (after Quidditch - I just can't get enough!) and I can't wait to play. I tend to read anything but non-fiction. I will be adding some important links, info & a SS for completed books. However, it won't be until tomorrow because I am a bit occupied...

I am looking forward to reading lots of books with you guys!

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Hi guys! Im super excited to start this with everyone!!

My favorite genres are horror, fantasy, and sci fi. But im open to reading just about anything!

Cant wait to begin

message 14: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Yay! We're open! I maaaay have been stalking the thread just a wee bit the last few days. :)

I have played Wheel before, but it was a few rounds ago when it was just letters and cover colors, so it may take me a few days to figure out all the things I have to look for in this round.

I'm open to reading just about anything -- I've even developed a new appreciation of non fiction lately. It looks like this and SRC will be my only challenges this summer, so I should be pretty flexible.

message 15: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 898 comments Hello! I am rookie Wheel participant so I may need some assistance understanding how this all works. I think I got it, but there may be some questions - one is on the task list - what does MPG mean?

I read many types of books - fiction, historical fiction, chick-lit, memoirs, classics, humor - you get the idea.

Looking forward to this for the summer.

message 16: by Tammie (last edited Jun 07, 2020 07:13AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments MPG means 'main page genre'.
If you look at the primary page for your book...on the right side there is a list of genres. If the challenge says MPG...it means it must be listed on this page.

@ ALL...Another unrelated bit...We will get extra, extra points if we read the BOM. Book of the month. I personally like to do this...and the more that merrier, and the better points for us. Donna will post links to those along with most everything we need at the top of this 1st page...in the meantime if you want to check out what's up for June...

Thanks. I knew BOM - haha! Do we gave to wait until the start date for the BOM - 6/14 and 6/21? Of course I just finished reading The Jetsetters on 5/22!

Yes...for this first go. No books can be used that are started prior to the start of the challenge. After that, books are able to carry over to other weeks. I'll investigate to see if you can still partake in the BOM discussion though. I'll post once I know the answer...I think I saw someone ask it in another thread. Was it a good book?

I knew I couldn't start any books until 6/12. Do I have to wait until 6/16 to start reading Five Feet Apart? The Jetsetters was OK. I gave 3 stars. Easy read though. Sorry for all the questions!

There is no qualification for 'when' other than the rule that books used for the challenge cannot be started before the start of the challenge. So...I believe you are fine to start a bit early if you like...just not before the 12th :)

message 21: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Another update based on the jetsetters which is one of the BOM. One of the tasks is to read a book with deck chairs on the cover. This book has deck chairs on it ;)

message 22: by Tammie (last edited Jun 07, 2020 09:41AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Good catch Shannon!
Please read rules if you haven't...I've had to read a few times and then usually need someone to explain them again for it to sink in completely...

Hopefully you've all caught these rules...more ways for us to earn points...
We can earn points for 10 books with relevant tags for our wheel slice
Finding books with tags is done as a TEAM - 10 total for our team
Most of the tags are bazaar-o too!

Individually we can read books against the task list we have.
Everyone has the same list but it's per INDIVIDUAL - example: we can each read a book with a deck chair on the cover and claim the points.

Each can only read for each task once.

message 23: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee | 645 comments Hello! I am Ashlee. This will be my third Wheelathon with NBRC. I love how each team member can complete each of the tasks on this year's challenge.

My top genres are mystery, romance, and YA. Lately, I have been on a James Patterson kick. I'm not a fan of non-fiction, but I did just purchase Untamed by Glennon Doyle , so I will hold out to see if it will be useful for our team.

I plan to start by reading the BOTM, The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward .

message 24: by Stacey (last edited Jun 07, 2020 10:04AM) (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I'm ready for Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott when we start, but didn't know that they had moved The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward back to be included. I've put in on reserve at the library, but I'm 148 on the list, so not sure if that will come in before the end of the month -- and I'm a little hesitant to pay the current Amazon price for a 3 star read....

The tags/MPG situation was the most confusing to me. I think I have the tags figured out, but is there bonus for the MPG of the pie slice as well? Cause I could not for the life of me figure out what the MPG of our Round 1 word is.

message 25: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1319 comments Hi all this is my third (I think) wheel. My local libraries and bookstores are still closed, so I can only get ahold of five feet apart and I'm on tge waiting list. Hopefully it will be available soon but not too soon.

My fave genres are urban fantasy, paranormal fantasy and, well, anything except true crime. Though I do have I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer waiting in the wings.

I'm currently reading All the Light We Cannot See, Catch-22 and listening to Homegoing. My aim is to finish these before we start. I had vowed not to take part in any group challenges this year, but with how it's turning out, I think any plans or ideas I had for the year are out the window.

Amber (amber03) | 8 comments Hi, this is my first time doing the wheel challenge.

I'm a second year university student. I still have 2 exams to take at the end of June. So between June 24th and July 2nd. I won't be reading any books. After that I am done so I will have loads of time to read.

My favorite genres are romance and fantasy.

I also have a question. Most of the books I read are in english but sometimes I read a book in my native language (dutch). For those books do I need to use the dutch title or the english title for the first letter?

I asked in the captain's thread and this is the answer that I got:

In previous challenges I used the language of the edition that I read: If I read in German or Estonian, I use the German/Estonian title, if I read in English, then I use the English title, and if I read in Russian, then I use tranliterated Russian title/author name
