I read [bookcover:The Catcher in the Ryeby J.D. Salinger.
The entire book is about Holden, who has just been kicked out of another boarding school and is wandering around New York City by himself for a few days before going back home. He feels completely misunderstood by his former classmates, by his girlfriends, by his parents, and by society. I would say that he doesn't have a 'group.' He is a loner in his thoughts and very narcissistic, or maybe just young and angsty.
