One of my longtime friends told me he learnt to speak English (his parents came from Samoa to NZ in the early 1970s) by watching a lot of tv series on at that time and, most especially, Saturday morning cartoons. Which would explain some of his rather unusual and quaint phrasing. I miss a lot of the old cartoons *sigh*

I have a real question (rather than my usual threadjacking ways). I'm currently reading a book about a couple that was exploring French Polynesia in a float plane when they are stranded on an island. I don't suppose that would count for the spirit of the Columbus Day entry would it? They are certainly explorers and the plane does float in the lagoon...
