Bob Flowers for Algernon
Daniel Keyes
Published 1959
Paperback, 216 pages
Read 8/3/15-8/5/15

Daniel Keyes writes this book from the perspective of a young man with severe learning disabilities. He does this beautifully, while no one can ever truly know the mind of another, Keyes shows a deep empathy and insight in his ability to express Charly’s desires, confusions, and dreams.

I am reading so slowly this year, but hope to remedy that soon.

I'm behind in submitting books read. Yet again, I'll have to log in a bunch at a time... :(

I really loved the book Watership Down. I want to read Plague Dogs next. I'll have to squeeze it in somehow.

Bob wrote: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Phenomenal book. Totally unlike anything else I've read. The nature of the relationship in this book repels a lot of readers, but the prose alone makes it worth reading.

I'm looking forward to reading Lolita. It's been on my TRL for a long time. I have a huge amount of books I want to read. Right now I'm focusing on the darker side of literature right now. Scary stories is what I'm all about with Fall approaching.

The Murders in the Rue Morgue

A very slow holiday weekend at work, so I read a short story. I need to work on reading more Poe.

Bob, I'll be jumping into a lot of Poe this month. Also, Dune was great. I loved that book. I heard the first three books are good in the series then it goes downhill from there. I'm not sure since I've only read the first.

Z for Zachariah by Robert O'Brien. 1974, 249 Pages.
I really enjoyed this as a teen and again as an adult. Dark apocalyptic themes that play off of innocence. I am a big fan of Robert O'Brien, who is also the author of the Secret of NIMH. Read this in paperback, as I couldn't find it for Kindle.

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, 1883, 183 pages. Audiobook.
Great adventure story by one of the masters.

The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams - 1988, 672 pages. Not sure if this counts as a classic (I leave that to my other moderators), but I would consider it an essential epic fantasy.
