70. Each teammate reads a book that the teammate after them alphabetically has rated 5 stars. No pass for this task.
There is no date requirement for this task, the book just has to be marked as read and rated 5 stars. So, Jane reads from Lisa's shelf, Lisa reads from Michaelle's, Michaelle reads from Shannon's and Shannon reads from Jane's shelf.

I couldn't decide whether to go with an old favourite, or give another go to an author (set of authors) I didn't enjoyed in book 1.
So, finally decided to give the authors another go (gave their first book 2 stars). I recall it was the writing style and repetition I disliked so it will be interesting to see how this fares :)

Huh! I really enjoyed this! Thanks Lisa - I doubt I would have EVER picked this up if it hadn't been on your shelf and fit in with bingo... Now I'll have to read book 3 to get all those darn threads tied up!

Well, a nice book to round off my week of reading cop / murder mysteries.
I likes Kuro and Trey as a couple and the mystery was good as well.
Hope there is going to be a book 2.

So later today I am going to post 3 or 4 recs just in case.

I think I'll wait for tomorrow since I don't think Kat will call another category while I'm asleep. (Plus I'm searching for your hard bonus book - option 3!!! LOL)

Review: Damn, that was better than I was expecting, and I'm glad I listed to it because Tyler Stevens did an amazing job with the narration! When I first started listening, I was a little worried about how he'd voice Spencer - but he performed the character without making his speech issues over-the-top.
Heart-breaking story here, and I'm definitely gonna make sure the next one is on the TBR. Aaron's emotional growth and progress toward healing made a difficult subject much more tolerable and gave ME an emotional lift I needed. Can't wait to get to Spencer for the rest of the story.
(Had that not been a solid focus for the latter half of the book, I'd have been even more depressed than I was when I started. Why? Well, if you're a big supporter of Green Energy and thought it to be a good solution toward addressing climate change - DO NOT watch the new Michael Moore documentary. I feel kinda like a patsy, and am even more pissed off than I was just a few weeks ago!)

Sleep well!!

Thanks! It should be a good night. 🤞🏼 I don't usually have 2 bad nights in a row and I was up at 4 AM last night trying to see if my PtP book was available from the library because I wasn't sleeping and had finished my last book. 🤦🏻♀️

I did look to see if it was lendable so one of you could have borrowed it, but its not. Also an expensive book nearly $9? I hope its not that fantastic that I am going to have to read the other 11 books in the series.

It's also on Hoopla - which I get through the library for free (10 items a month) but I'm gonna save the last of those that I have just in case something else comes up in one of my other challenges.

Quite refreshing. A nice mystery novel with a hint of pending romance. Although I did have a little tear with Rod's demise. I wonder now if it is set up for a romance with Doug.

Review: So, I'm giving this 5 stars because...well, color me more than just a little impressed with how damn progressive this book was for having been written in Nineteen freaking Seventy!
No internalized homophobia, no angsting...hell, Dave's dad even knew he was gay and other than giving a half-hearted attempt at talking Dave into getting married (to give him grandchildren) it was just no big deal. No hate, no anger. Dave even worked for his dad and both were really happy with that.
When the story took a turn, I had no idea who could be the culprit, or why (SO. MANY. Possibilities!)...and though I'm a little disappointed with who it turned out to be, I'm kinda glad that left a certain potential love interest for Dave. DEFINITELY going to read the next one. Well, maybe not soon because I don't have a lot of books on my shelf that were published in the 70s and want to hold on to them for future challenges.
No, it's wasn't graphic, and it didn't need to be because this was first and foremost a mystery. But Dave's sexuality played a heavy part (especially when reminiscing about Rod, and then that little interlude with Anselmo), plus there was his lesbian best friend - and I can't even imagine how much this book must have meant to the queer community in the 1970s. That right there is why this one gets 5 stars.
(It's the earliest book I've read that had a gay protagonist; considering the plot, I'm now wondering though when the "bury your gays" trope caught fire.)

This reminded me of the old show Columbo. I don't know why but that's what I kept thinking. And like that old show, I enjoyed this more than I thought. I was expecting torture but got a twisty mystery. Very interesting!!

Yep, I was dreading it most - and yet I'm ridiculously happy with my choice...I added the rest of the series to my shelves in case this category ever come up again because I will definitely read more of Joseph's books!

A thoroughly enjoyable and amusing mystery, set in Egypt in the late 1800s. Intrigue, friction, intelligence, an obstinate and strong-willed female protagonist. Both MCs, Emerson and Amelia are delightfully salty. Beautifully narrated as well.
