I read His at Night by Sherry Thomas at the end of last week. Ms. Thomas writes the Victorian period exquisitely.

message 202: by Anna (new)

Anna Zollinger (rosewoodhearth) I just finished reading The Luxeby Anna Godbersenwhich is the first of 4 books in a series titled after the first novel.

I found it a bit jevenille in some aspects (it is listed as a teen - young adult book!) and a pretty hard read until about the middle of the book, but after things picked up a bit I was absolutely glued to the pages. I definitely look forward to my public library reopening after renovations so I can try to nab the other 3 books in the series (Rumors, Envy and Splendor)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I haven't gotten the urge to read that series yet, Sandra. I am interested in her books set in the Twenties. I think the first one is called Bright Young Things.

Anna Zollinger (rosewoodhearth) The series is actually pretty decent for being a Teen novel / young adult read. I find myself going back to those books (T-YA) versus more adult fantasies. The younger ones seem more imaginative to me.

I have heard great reviews for her BYT book though. I'm going to pick that up too next time I'm at the library. Hopefully they'll have it.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I'll give them a try. Thanks, Sandra.

Anna Zollinger (rosewoodhearth) :) No problem dear.

I recently read One Week as Lovers by Victoria Dahl . I'd recommend it to fans of Victorian romance.

message 208: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I just picked that one up at the library sale a week or so ago. Glad to hear it's a good one.:-)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I think you would like it, Julie.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I read A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas and loved it. Earlier this month, I read Mistletoe Magic by Sophia James, which I didn't enjoy as much.

message 211: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I just finished A Wallflower Christmas too, Danielle. It started a little shaky for me, but I was hooked by the end. It was another keeper in the series for me.:-)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Glad to hear it, Julie!

I finished The Trapper this weekend, which was actually more of a western, but it touched on the Gilded Age in Boston/New York.

Anyone reading any good books set in the Victorian period or otherwise?

I started Great Expectations a couple of weeks ago, and it will take me a while to get through it.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I'm reading Simple Jess right now. It's set in 1905, which is actually Edwardian. Love that time period as well.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I finished Fantastical last night. I'm crushing on Kristen Ashley's books. I can't get enough of her writing. I keep wondering if there's some subliminal crack in each book because I am totally addicted!!!

Fantastical (Fantasyland, #3) by Kristen Ashley

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
It's exciting when you find a new author to glom, Dhestiny!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Yes, Danielle. I've read 21 back to back, 23 total!

Diane Peterson (dianekpeterson) | 2 comments OMG, I started Beguiling the Beauty. I don't know how Sherry Thomas does it, but I am totally sucked in. Her books get inside my head. It's great so far.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Kellianne, I want to check Beguiling the Beauty out. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Okay, well, I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey and I'll be done with it tonight. It's certainly not what I expected.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress wrote: "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

Both. Because with all the hype I was expecting something unputdownable from the get-go and in fact, I almost gave up by chapter 9. I only kept reading because my BFF was reading it and she had questions. By chapter 10 it picked up, but the heroine is annoying the HELL out of me. *sigh*

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Well, at least you're almost done with it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Yeah, but there was a kind of cliff hanger so I HAVE to read book 2. *sigh*

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Darn those cliffhangers. I think that's a good sign that you didn't hate it so much that you can't bring yourself to read the next book.

Kelly | 29 comments Hype can just ruin a good book. I think you will like Ana more in book 2 she starts to find her way a bit more. Remember she is very young. When I was in college I thought I was so mature, looking at photos and all I was still such a baby.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm 20% into book 2 and Ana isn't rubbing me the wrong way at all, in fact, I already love this book whereas with book 1, I never got to the love point with it.

Last week I read To Beguile a Beast, which is Georgian, but it was very good.

Right now I'm reading Vicar's Daughter to Viscount's Lady, a Regency.

I'm also reading Great Expectations, which gives a good look at Victorian times.

message 230: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments Love Elizabeth Hoyt, Danielle. The Legend of the Four Soldiers series are the only ones of her books I haven't read yet. I'm dying for Thief of Shadows, the newest in her Maiden Lane series due out next month, especially after she mentioned it has a virgin hero. Swoon!;-) I was already crazy about him so that's just the icing on the cake. At her workshop I attended at the recent writer's conference, she also gave some tidbits of information about book 5, and it sounds really intriguing too.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Oh wow. Great to have another virgin hero to read about.

message 232: by Julianna (last edited May 21, 2012 04:14PM) (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I know! There definitely aren't enough of them. I had suspected Winter might be a virgin, so I'm glad to know my instincts were spot-on. I'm counting down the days.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I read the excerpt and some reviews, and it looks good.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm reading Poetic Justice (Zebra Regency Romance) by Alicia Rasley for RomCon and I'm so glad they sent it! It's a unique, interesting story, and I'm glad of that because the romance is very slow to build.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Lady D, I really enjoyed When He Was Wicked (Bridgertons, #6) by Julia Quinn For me, this is the book that proved Julian Quinn could write more than light romance novels.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Sorry for the late reply, Dhestiny. I am looking forward to reading When He Was Wicked because I heard it was more intense then her usual books.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I read The Bride Wore Pearls by Liz Carlyle, and it was a very good Victorian. Intense characters, sexy romance, and a bit of mysticism. I recommend it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I've got several contemps I have to read for review, but then I'm going to switch to The Wild One (de Montforte #1) by Danelle Harmon for my HR fix.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Oh, I like that series, Dhestiny ! I haven't read The Wild One, but I loved The Wicked One and The Defiant One.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish The Wild One is only 99cents on amazon, so I figured I'd give it a shot!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
That's cool she put those out on Kindle. I've love to get ebook copies when I have a chance.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'll be reading that one this week. So they can be read OOO?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I did on accident, and I was fine.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
As far as historical romance, I readThe Last Renegade by Jo Goodman (an ARC which is coming out in September), and it was a very good western.

I also read Unbuttoning Miss Hardwick by Deb Marlowe ( a Regency), and it was excellent.

I highly recommend both books.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I'm reading To Tempt an Irish Rogue by Katilin O'Riley. It is a Victorian. I am enjoying this. I am trying to read other review books at the same, but the few snatches draw me in.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I finished To Tempt an Irish Rogue. It was good. I liked it. I did feel like something was missing. It just didn't set me on fire. However, I am going through a book slump, so maybe that's it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm reading The Lady Risks All and its pretty good! First read of this author.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Glad to hear it, D!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I finished Her Highness and the Highlander, an ARC and I loved it! It was nice to read a very enjoyable book, since I've been in a bear of a book slump. This is a Regency, so not quite on topic, but I do recommend it.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
A Pirate's Kiss is actually a Victorian pirate book that I read last week. It's pretty good.
