I just read To Wed a Wicked Earl. I really enjoyed it.

Started Once a Wolf right at bedtime. Really good so far. This one's a victorian and a paranormal and a western. I'll add it to the list.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I just finished Zack by Cheyenne McCray a couple of days ago. It was OK.

Now I'm reading The Baby Album by Roz Denny Fox which I'm enjoying. It's a short Harlequin, so I'll probably finish it today.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Those darn just okay reads. What a waste of precious time. I've read some good books by Roz Denny Fox. She wrote one with a Chinese American heroine. I think that was the first HQN that I remember with one. Nice.

message 4: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I know. Every time I read a book that rates below 4 stars for me, I'm thinking of the great books out there that I'm not getting read, but I guess they can't all be winners all the time.

I think I have that book on the TBR pile. Is it She Walks the Line from the Women in Blue series?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I think the Roz Denny Fox book I was thinking of is Cinderella Coach. But I'll have to look up She Walks the Line.

I feel you about the so-so books. Time for reading is so precious that it kind of hurts to waste it on a book that isn't that great.

message 6: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) It's not victorian but I'm reading The Golden City by John Twelve Hawks

I died waiting for this to come out and now I'm trying to read it very slooooooowly since it's the last one...

Looks like she has more than one then. I just checked and She Walks the Line: Women in Blue has a Chinese American heroine too.

message 8: by new_user (new)

new_user Yay, Danielle! Have you read the first in Krinard's series? I really liked that one too. :D

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Julie I went ahead and ordered She Walks the Line off Amazon. You inspired me.

I went right to Once a Wolf, NU. Never fear. I will read the other books in the series. I'm loving it so far. Thanks for the recommendation. Love those werewolf romances.

message 10: by new_user (new)

new_user Hehe, glad you're enjoying it. It's good stuff.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Well I'm there if you combine elements like Western, Victorian, Revenge-seeking hero, buttoned-up heroine, and werewolf. LOL. I'm feeling sympathetic towards Weylin, the younger brother of Rowena's jerky fiance.

message 12: by new_user (last edited Sep 18, 2009 07:23PM) (new)

new_user Yeah, I felt bad for him too. Poor guy. Her fiance is such a villain, isn't he? >< He gets worse! LOL. I think you'll like her brother. ;)

Glad I could help you add to the pile.;-) Hope you enjoy it. I haven't read it yet.

I just found another one you might like, but you won't have to spend any money on it this time. One of this month's free SuperRomance reads at eHarlequin is by Roz Denny Fox. It appears to have an Asian heroine who is a scientist. You can read it here: http://www.eharlequin.com/article.htm...

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Cool. Heading over to check that out. Thanks, Julie.

Linds I just finished Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas and I loved it. I have been really into her for the past few months and she is consistently great.

message 17: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments That's one of my all-time favorite LK books, Linds.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
LK is a wonderful writer. Again the Magic was so poignant.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Just finished One Forbidden Evening by Jo Goodman which I found very slow and didn't enjoy at all.

Now I'm reading A Notorious Love by Jeffries. Unfortunately, I bought the book on wrong premises, thinking it was the hero who had a limp and kept distant because of this, but it turns out it's the heroine that has this problem. It's not bad, it's just that I had something different in mind but I think I'll get over it and enjoy it in the end.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Too bad about your last book, Fani.

I enjoyed A Notorious Love. I hope you like it.

I just finished Once a Wolf by Susan Krinard. It was a good book.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I seem to be in bad luck lately: all books I pick up are good to mediocre, and though not one was a wall banger, they're not keepers either:(

So, I didn't particularly care for A Notorious Love. It was just another 'ok' book for me. I also felt kinda let down by Bound by Your Touch, after reading the gloating reviews. While it was very nice, the heroine prevented it from being a keeper for me.

Now, I'm reading The Highlander's Touch. Hope this one's better:)

That's too bad, Fani. I hope THT is better for you too. A genre switch usually helps. I'm reading two books at the same time (well more):

[book:Be Mine Tonight
This is a victorian vampire story.

The Hand-Me-Down Family

Elric The Stealer of Souls

message 23: by new_user (new)

new_user Be Mine is on my TBR. Hope you have good news for me, Danielle, LOL.

Fani, Bound By Your Touch wasn't the one with the naive heroine, was it?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
I'm liking it a lot so far. Kathryn has a gothic feel in this book that makes me think of Dracula, although she does her own thing with the theme.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments I've been reading The Indiscretion by Judith Ivory, and I'm really struggling with the author's writing style and how slow the plot and character development is moving. I had recently been thinking about how I'd been really lucky not to have had a book that rated below three stars yet this year, but this one is well on it's way if it doesn't get better. In fact, I've been thinking of setting it aside to finish up a couple of other books I've been working on. Never a good sign.:-(

message 26: by Ally72 (new)

Ally72 I am reading "Some Like It Wicked" by Teresa Mederios...I love, love, love her as a writer! I have been saving this one and its sequel until now.

message 27: by Terri (new)

Terri (brookfield) I am reading surrender to the devil by Heath just finished The wed night of an English Rogue by Jillian Hunter good read this series is very interesting about the Boscastle family.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Julie I think it's probably a good idea to put it down for now. I've had to do that and gone back and enjoyed a book on the second try. And I'm sure you have some stuff on your mind. Try to read something that is totally different.

I'm glad you are enjoying Some Like It Wicked, Ally.

Terri I am a big fan of both Heath and Hunter. I hope you enjoy Surrender to the Devil.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 73 comments You're right Danielle. I'm not really in the right frame of mind to tackle a book that's frustrating me right now. I'm not the type to leave a book unfinished, but maybe a day or two away from it is what I need right now. I've been wanting to finish up the Twilight Movie Companion before New Moon comes out and I've been working on a free read at e-Harlequin that was pretty good too. Then I have a PNR novella I've been eyeing that I think I'll try. Mixing it up is definitely sounding appealing.:-)

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) new_user wrote: "Be Mine is on my TBR. Hope you have good news for me, Danielle, LOL.

No, that was A Notorious Love. But unfortunately I ended up disliking both heroines anyway:( Admitedly though, Bound By Your Touch was a much better book than ANL.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Terri wrote: "I am reading surrender to the devil by Heath just finished The wed night of an English Rogue by Jillian Hunter good read this series is very interesting about the Boscastle family. "

I would like to hear what you think of Heath's book Terri. I always like her, but I only read the first one of the Devil series, because I've been focusing more on her backlist than her new releases.

message 32: by Terri (new)

Terri (brookfield) I thought they were good stories like all her books I think I have read 90% of what she has writen. I read the backlist 17 of them Texas storys are good. The next in the devil series is very good.

I've been trying to get a copy of Always to Remember for years now.

I love that one Danielle. I borrowed it from the library about a year ago, and then wanted a copy to keep. I've found some for sale online, but I'm very picky about quality and even the ones that aren't in great condition are going for very high prices. Needless to say, I have not yet found one that met my standards that I could afford.:-(

I finished Be Mine Tonight by Kathryn Smith. It was really great. Made me cry like crazy!

message 42: by Linds (new)

Linds I finished the Duke and I by Julia Quinn last week and just loved it. The hero used to have a bad stutter and was misjudged as a kid for being stupid. The heroine was a more layered than usual. Read it, it's good!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 739 comments Mod
Hi Linds. This book has been in my tbr pile for years. I keep meaning to pull it off the pile.

message 44: by K. (new)

K. (kodoharty) | 35 comments I just finished Linda Needham's "The Wedding Night," and although it has absolutely nothing to do with "The Wedding Night" (no idea why it has that title - LOL!), it's one of the best historicals I've ever read. A 5*! I don't know why I've never heard anyone bring up this author before! I know Danielle's read her, but . . . she's read everything! LOL! And Danielle - I don't remember you bringing her name up before either. Was I just not paying attention, and not recognizing the name . . . skipped right over her?! Sure hope it's not a "one hit wonder" problem! This one's a goody! :)

I really loved Ever His Bride by Linda Needham, and I liked the other two books I read by her: The Maiden Bride and Her Secret Guardian. I like enjoy her writing. I'm glad you enjoyed The Wedding Night. That one is in my tbr pile. I have read quite a few books, but not all the ones I want to. If only I could read books for a living. LOL.

message 46: by K. (new)

K. (kodoharty) | 35 comments Thanks Danielle!! I put those on my wish list, and I'm looking forward to seeing if she's a consistent author for me! I hope so! I think you will enjoy "The Wedding Night." I've OFTEN thought of how I can just read/review romances for a living as well. Since I've spent the last 7 years in my own business, setting up and managing other people's businesses, you can imagine!! Well . . . it won't be "now" for me (as I'm turning my clients/business over to my DIL and pursuing a government rehire job for a benefit for my retirement. But that's just 2-1/2 years. Then . . . who knows?! I may come up with something! LOL! I'm sure I'll let you know if that happens. In the meantime, I'll be reading more of Needham's backlist -- and you DEFINITELY need to get to "The Wedding Night." It's a jewel just awaiting your attention in your vast TBR! :)
K.

Linds Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "Hi Linds. This book has been in my tbr pile for years. I keep meaning to pull it off the pile."

Oh you should! I don't know how it stacks up against other Julia Quinn books because it's the only one I've read by her (I'm definitely going to continue with the series.) I liked it because the hero was emotionally damaged without being aggressive or excessively emotional about it. I liked it more than I thought I would.

I will try to find it when I get home. I think I have it shelved with some other unread Needham books at home. I don't have a very good system for my bookshelves right now.

I hope you enjoy her other books, too.

I have many years before retirement (with late start on career with school, etc), so my writing/reading endeavors have to be squeezed into my free time, but I won't complain too much.

That's good to hear, Linds. I've enjoyed the Quinns I've read, but I admit I like the darker romances more.

message 50: by K. (new)

K. (kodoharty) | 35 comments Danielle, did you ever read Quinn's "When He was Wicked" (which is part of the Bridgerton series)? It's a fairly dark read. If not, you may want to read that one. I'm pretty sure you've read "The Secret Diaries of Miss. Miranda Cheever," if I remember correctly? Not a personal favorite for me, but another pretty dark read for Quinn. As you know . . . I've read everything she's wirtten (except Cavendish - but, I hear I've "read" that one . . . via The Lost Duke . . .! LOL!). I own it, so I'll probably get to it at some point . . . maybe in that retirement period! :D
