PattyMacDotComma Stoner by John Williams is one of those books I've been saving for a 'rainy day'. I figure a pandemic qualifies, and my goodness, I'm glad I had such a good one tucked away. Terrific!

PattyMacDotComma Even for Jeanette Winterson this is an unusual, funny, thought-provoking, historical fiction/sci-fi/sex-romp/love story. I’m not surprised Frankissstein: A Love Story was long-listed for the 2019 Booker. Hilarious and scary!

Kristie | 5927 comments I like to have one audiobook and one physical (paper or Kindle) book going at a time, but recently I started too many Kindle books and then hit a hard slump. So, now I'm working my way through finishing the ones I've already started.

I finally finished The Forgotten Home Child. It was really good and should have taken a lot less time than it did because it kept my interest.

I planned to read The Giver of Stars next, but it is due back at the library (electronically) in 3 days and I don't think I can finish it that quickly. I will have to return it and hop back on the long waitlist again.

I am currently reading Unfollow Me (75%) and hope to finish today or tomorrow. I'm also half way through Big Lies in a Small Town. I plan to finish Big Lies as soon as I'm done with Unfollow Me.

I will be starting Lethal Bayou Beauty for a challenge in another group, since I don't have any audios going at the moment. I think a humorous cozy should be the perfect read for me right now.

Skylar (skytannathegreat) | 2 comments So I have received my first Book of the Month book--so exciting! I got Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore, which centers around Odessa, Texas during an oil boom in 1976. All I have to say so far, as I am a hundred pages in now, is that she was really able to capture that anti-woman feel that makes me wanna hit my pillow haha.

Has anyone else read a book that has made their blood come to a boil?

message 368: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5927 comments I have, Skylar. I think when the story can really get under your skin and get you fired up that's a sign of good writing. Otherwise, you'd just be annoyed at the author. lol I just got that book as well, but haven't started it yet. I'll be prepared.

PattyMacDotComma I am always happy to revisit Canadian author Louise Penny's village of Three Pines. Too bad that death is the price of admission. I loved The Nature of the Beast.

PattyMacDotComma Roger Ebert was a Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic, but before that, he was a classmate and friend of mine, so of course I've always enjoyed his reminiscences. I wrote some comments about his memoir, Life Itself, but I didn't 'rate' it, just gave it "two thumbs up"!
