PattyMacDotComma Silver, by Aussie author Chris Hammer, follows investigative journalist Martin Scarsden from Hammer's popular mystery, Scrublands. He's perfectly captured my part of the beautiful NSW North Coast, with drugs, backpackers, developers, politics and murders. A good read.

Loved The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry!

Mony (mony1) Reckless by Stella Rhys
Reckless by Stella Rhys was fabulous. It’s a well written boss romance – friends to enemies with a great simmering slow burn. Dialogue is smart, snarky and tender.
Captive by R.J. Lewis
Captive by R.J. Lewis was an epic read. Not a dark captivity story (not mafia) but it is gripping, edgy…with a sense of mystery about the roles of villain and victim. Oh, and captor Nixon is hot, hot, hot – shades of Mystery Man but bad. This is longer than most books so be prepared. (GR rating 4.5)

Mony (mony1) The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa
Brief quirky Japanese book.
A fabulous little story about a math professor who only has 15 minutes of memory and the housekeeper and her son who become part of his life.
5*****+

Kristie | 5928 comments I just finished What You Wish For. I have to admit that though I really enjoyed it, I didn't love it as much as her previous book, Things You Save in a Fire. Still an engaging and mostly fun read though.

I'm currently reading Death on a Summer Night, which is pretty good so far for a short story. It doesn't feel like a short story.

I'm also back to reading All the Broken People, which I took a little break from to read What You Wish For because I wasn't in the mood for this one at the time. I had too many similar books in a row, but now that I've read something different I'm ready to get back to it.

The Phantom was the first Broadway musical I ever saw. I was enthralled by the beauty and theatrics of the entire show, and I fell in love with Michael Crawford, who played the Phantom. I now have 2 teenage daughters and have wanted to take them to see it but neither one has any interest in it :(.

PattyMacDotComma A favourite author is Aussie Sulari Gentill. I love her historical mystery series, and this episode, Gentlemen Formerly Dressed, is a treat! Rowland and his mates are in 1930s London, trying to elude the Nazis. It's a great mix of high and low society, politics, and murder in pre-war England.

Kristie | 5928 comments I'm currently reading Woof, which is ok. I didn't realize it is a middle grade story. I confused it with the author's other series, starting with Dog on It, which is for adults.

I am also reading The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, which is really cute so far.

message 583: by DrKmW (new)

DrKmW (chouchou24) | 10 comments I enjoyed enormously the book “The splendid and the Vile”. I learned about what the British people suffered after the invasion of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I also admired the leadership of Winston Churchill in this time of crisis. Churchill never sugarcoated what the sacrifices would be and showed courage and determination.
I am well aware of what happened in France from the experiences of my parents, grandparents and their friends. They lived through the invasion of nazi Germany, the shameful surrender of Petain, and the fighting that lasted a year after D-day.

If you are interested in World War II, the book is a great read.

Jodie | 1 comments I have just finished Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet. I loved it. It was written in a very poetic way, I’ve not read any of her books before so this is possibly her style, it was beautiful.
It was such an interesting take on what Shakespeare’s home life might have been like and the absolutely tragic loss of his son Hamnet, written through the eyes of his wife, Agnes.
