J. Jaffray | 5 comments I am super excited to have found this group! I struggle to find good Christian Fiction authors. My personal favorites are Mark Goodwin, Lynn Austin, and Colleen Coble. I know, complete opposite genres in the Christian Fiction realm lol. I look forward to scrolling through past comments for awesome author suggestions!

Carissa (Regency Woman) (sparklingangel84) | 5 comments Hi, I'm Carissa and love reading. I read quite a bit of Christian fiction but also branch out into reading the classics, and middle-grade and YA fantasy fiction. I like Regency and Victorian fiction and thoroughly enjoyed the Regency Christmas collection Joy to the World: A Regency Christmas Collection and any of Camille Elliot's books. I also love Stephen Bly's western books and miss his presence in the Christian fiction realm since he went home to be with Jesus.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments Welcome Carissa. We're happy to have you. I am a Camille Elliot (aka Camy Tang) fan too.

99Kylies | 2 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Kylie ^u^ I'm eager to find more Christian books to feed my spiritual health, and especially love older stuff, like E.D.E.N. Southworth's stories. I've read stuff from Frank E. Peretti and Francine Rivers to C.S. Lewis and George MacDonald, and would love to find lesser known authors. While I like speculative fiction, I've been finding a lot of good in simple historical/contemporary fiction. I'm so glad to have found a good Christian group and I look forward to conversation and book finding with everyone! :D

Tom Bruner Hi all,
I live out here in Irvine, CA. I've read a lot of books in my life and look forward to reading what this group offers. I mentor a group of 7th graders from my church (Saddleback). We meet weekly (Zoom, grrr) during the school year. I just got done taking another group from 7th to 12th grade which ended in June.

This is very similar to my story. =] What kind of secular books were your favorites? Maybe we can recommend some good Christian fiction with a similar feel!

Paula Shreckhise | 238 comments Welcome Connie! I lived in STL for 20 years and moved downstate to Lebanon five years ago! Howdy neighbor!

message 264: by Connie (new)

Connie | 9 comments Hi Paula! We live in St Charles but plan to move to Nw Arkansas after my husband retires later this year. We were in Lebanon last year when we camped at Bennett Spring! Nice area!

message 265: by Paula (new)

Paula Shreckhise | 238 comments Connie, we knew people from St. Charles. We went to church in Orchard Farm. Hubby was an assistant while he went to Seminary.
We lived in University City right next to 170 for 10 years and Maplewood for 10 years before that. Small world!

message 266: by Connie (new)

Connie | 9 comments Paula, it is definitely a small world. We go to church in St Peters. I may try to look for you to follow on here but I have always had a hard time finding people. Oh well, maybe I’ll just see you in this group.

I’m less familiar with that genre. Anne Elisabeth Stengl has a fantasy series that I enjoyed book one. It’s got dragons and such but is clean from a Christian worldview, from what I recall.

Bess | 62 comments Summer wrote: "

Oh! There is a plethora of Clean/Christian fantasy! I happen to love the genre and most of my reads are centered around it.
Andrea is right, Anne Elisabeth Stengl is a great fantasy author. Her series is more allegorical fantasy. You can see Messiah woven throughout! Her mom, JL Stengl writes fantasy/fairy-tale. They are not as deep, so light reading for quick and cute reads.
Last year, I found a HUGE selection of Christian/Clean new-to-me authors with fantasy.
Morgan Busse
Shari L Tapscott
AG Marshall
KM Shea
Kenley Davidson (littered with some profanity, nothing else)
Brittney Fitcher
Heather Fitzgerald
If you need more, PM me or you can check out my "fantasy/fair-tale" list. The more recent ones have details like profanities or you know, whatever else could be construed as offensive or distasteful.
Happy reading!!

Welcome Gerri! How fascinating to live in London! I'm a lifelong resident of the U.S., but I have always loved all things British! The history is so interesting. The Victorian era has always fascinated me. I'm sure you will enjoy this group!

Sure thing! Goodreads is currently having some issues with their search function, with not all the books showing up. If that's the case when you search for them on the site, try again in a few days. I'm hoping they'll fix the problem soon, but a friend told me it took a week last time something similar happened.

message 285: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments Lots of new challenges too Godwin! Wander around and see if any catch your interest.

message 286: by Azalea (new)

Azalea Dabill (azaleadabill) | 9 comments I'm thrilled to see all the great book recommendations. I particularly enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, and imaginative fiction. But I also go in for deep character YA, mystery and historical.

Which is why I write fantasy with threads of the above.

Thank you, Bess, for the wonderful fantasy author recommendations. I'll be looking at your "fantasy/Fair-tale" list as well.

And my dad really likes good westerns. I haven't been able to find any of those for him lately. (I did see someone in this thread recommend Stephen Bly.) Any other authors of westerns that a guy would like? Or mystery suspense?

Thank you so much! I can't wait to check out the other threads. See you there :-)

Karen Witemeyer's westerns are so much fun. Yes, they're romance, but they're also quirky adventures that I think anyone can enjoy. She's my go-to anytime I'm in the mood for a western.

I have really enjoyed Karen Witemeyer's books! She has long been a favorite of mine and I've read most of her novels. They never disappoint!

Jimin'sRamenNoodles (Jinlo) (ilovekpop) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Jinlo and I am always on the search for more Christian reads! I also love music so if any of you have suggestions for that, I'd LOVE to chat with you!! ^^

message 292: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Welcome, Jinlo! So happy you've found us.

What kind of music do you like? I listen to mostly Contemporary Christian and 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s music (though I'm newer to the '60s stuff and still exploring that decade's offerings).

What book genres do you like? I read a variety within the Christian fiction genre, such as mystery, Gothic, contemporary, historical, suspense, and romance. Here are a few of my recent favorite books.

The Love Note by Joanna Davidson Politano The Inn at Ocean's Edge (Sunset Cove, #1) by Colleen Coble From Sky to Sky (No Less Days, #2) by Amanda G. Stevens Wrong Train to Paris (Romance on the Orient Express, #2) by Jennifer Moore A Place to Belong (Maple Valley) by Melissa Tagg

Jimin'sRamenNoodles (Jinlo) (ilovekpop) | 3 comments Hey Andrea,

That's great! ^^ I LOVE romance novels so I'll have to check some of those out.
My music types are pretty much everything but heavy metal, a few of some really good songs are:
"There Is A Way" by Newworldson (SUCH an underrated christian song!)
"Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae, and
"Say My Name" by ATEEZ.

Also if you like supporting debuting Christian artists I would suggest a guy I know named Eli Fox. He's a self published music artist and one of my favorite songs from him is called "Creator Divine".

Any songs you'd like to suggest for me? I especially love songs you can dance to. :)

Some of my favorite books are:

Bias by Lucy Gold What the Dog Said by Randi Reisfeld P.S. I Like You by Kasie West A Year Without Autumn by Liz Kessler

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
I love that Newworldson song!

My sister gave me the CD "Wide Open" by Austin French for Christmas. When I listened to it, my first thought was, "I could dance to this." Not that I'm a big dancer or anything, but I can't resist a good beat. (Besides that, I do have a thing for the old styles of dance -- such as jive and ballroom -- a la Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and Ann-Margret.) There are a couple of songs that get more rap-y than I prefer, but most of them are fantastic.

A favorite artist of mine is Unspoken. They've got some wonderful songs that inspire me and uplift my heart.

Ooh, those book covers are darling! I especially like the whimsical quality of that last one.
