Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9970 comments Unsheltered Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver by Barbara Kingsolver

This novel - about families, politics, science, economics and decaying houses - focuses on two very different families that lived in a New Jersey town 150 years apart.

Good story. 3.5 stars

Araych | 676 comments Death of an Art Collector Death of an Art Collector (Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe Mysteries #14) by Robert Goldsborough by Robert Goldsborough

Nero Wolfe #14, OK to read as stand-alone. It's always nice to spend some time again with Archie, Nero, and the gang but this effort tastes like lite beer. The title is much too on-the-nose, the dialogue is stilted and the plot resolution is almost non-existent. I know Stout's daughters OKed this series but this one's a disappointment. 3 stars because it's Archie and Nero but it's really 2.

I was in the middle of a book that hasn't been published yet and really liking it. Then I lost it. I found it this morning, in the sheets I'd just washed:

There is nothing quite like a shelf full of books... I do find it frustrating when people bend books out of shape.. I'm guilty sometimes I must admit, but not for books I want to keep.. I hope anyway.. :)

Normally I'm really good at shaking things out before they get tossed into the washer, but I must have got sidetracked or something. I was horrified, but then all that was left was to laugh at myself. And vacuum the washing machine.

I emailed right away after trying to buy a copy and discovering it's not published until April, sending that same photo. The publisher was so kind and offered to send another -- I had asked for an e-format because I'm sure that I wouldn't be putting my kindle in the wash.

Zoe Radley | 558 comments That’s amazing of them.. I don’t think I have ever done that before lol it’s mainly phones or some other small technological device that end up in the wash. I am sorry though you have to wait for the replacement to finish the book.
Currently reading two books one for my book club and the other just a book I got from my library which I was reading before.

My washing pet peeve is the overlooked tissue left in the pocket of something in the dark wash. No matter how many times I check pockets and sleeves, the odd one still sneaks through.

As for missing pages, I was reading an old yellowed paperback of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, and it wasn't until I was near the end and the plot wasn't wrapping up that I realised the last pages were missing! Luckily, it's such an old book that I managed to find a website that was discussing the ending so I could read it - whew! Now I'm inclined to look for the last page and squint (don't want to see spoilers!) to make sure it says The End or similar. :)

message 394: by Aditya (new)

Aditya | 2017 comments @Susan There is an add book option in the desktop version of the site. Click on it, type book name, of the available options select the one you want and then finally select whether you want just the book name or cover. Default is book name but you can select cover. The relevant option is at the bottom of the window/ box that opens.
